Cricket is set to introduce sendings-off for the first time next year, while the size of bats is to be limited.
Umpires will be given the power to eject players from a game for serious disciplinary breaches.

MCC World Cricket Committee member Ricky Ponting explained that sanctions needed to be implemented.
"We're talking about a significant change to lower-level cricket because it has got completely out of hand down there," the ex-Australia captain said.

MCC (the Marylebone Cricket Club) remains the guardian of the laws and spirit of the game, and its world cricket committee - established in 2006 and comprised of 12 current and former top international players - has been a leading independent voice on the game's major issues.

The new laws will be implemented at all levels of the game from 1 October 2017, subject to approval by MCC's main committee.

Well , Well , just as I predicted in this Forum some time this year , they
are now going to limit the size of bats edges .

Never ever under estimate the MCC ,
and its crass chicanery . There is not
to my knowledge , any restriction of
Players from any Country using bats
with thick edges .

Persons need to remember , that when the MCC decided to limit Pace Bowlers
bowling only one Bouncer per over ,

IT WAS OUR TEAM THAT HAD THE

FASTEST BOWLERS IN THE WORLD .

So make absolutely no mistake , this
new Law , is aimed mainly at our Players . Just like the One Bouncer
per over Law . Yes , people may say
well this affects all Players .

However interestingly this decision is being made , when Our Teams have been victorious in the World Championship in the shortest version of the game ; and Our Players are
in demand in various Countries for
their Skills .

I am reminded of the Africans who
jokingly state that the Englishmen

Saw it coming a long time ago as well.

'The powerful West Indians with their big bats... Even a miss hits goes for Six'... that was their cry.

And these ppl have been using big bats long before we were.

Bat edges and depths to be limited

Following much debate in the past few years over bat sizes, and a call for restrictions from the International Cricket Council in June, specific size limitations to the edge and depth of bats will be added to the laws as the committee believes "the balance of the game has tilted too far in the batsman's favour" - with some mis-hit shots clearing the boundary for six.

Bat edges will have a maximum allowance of 40mm and bat depths must not exceed 67mm (60mm plus an allowance of 7mm for a possible curve on the face of the bat).

"Many of the top players' bats have edges of between 38mm and 42mm, but there are some which have edges of up to 50mm, which was felt to be excessive and in need of restriction," the committee concluded.

While a bat gauge will be used to enforce the new restriction in the professional game, a moratorium will allow amateur players to continue to use their existing bats which may be in breach of the new law.

Sensible suggestion.... as has been said already mis hits don't just go for 4 now ... they clear the boundary by yards (which often happen to be virtually 50 yards)....about time !

Very flattering for those cowlashers now that the MCC has chosen to West Indians Proof the game. Brings back memories of the restricted use of bouncers rule, as well as those labor laws implemented by English County cricket to make sure West Indians stayed home.

Also brings back memories of the Sport of Golf 'Tiger-Proofing' Courses. Very flattering.

They got acclimatized & accustomed to
both the English Weather & Pitches .
Batsmen learned the art of middling
the ball whether in the air or off the Pitches . They also obviously had
a lot of Mental & Physical Stamina .

THE NEXT VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR WAS

THE INTERNATIONAL TOUR SCHEDULE

PROVIDED MANY MATCHES BETWEEN THE

INTERNATIONAL MATCHES .

Remember in the Region , during the Golden Eras of West Indies Cricket
there was not even a genuine Pro or Semi Pro League .

WICBC did not pay any attention , when out of the blue England decided
limit Overseas Players .

THE MEMBERS OF THE WICBC FAILED TO

REALIZE & UNDERSTAND THE DEVASTATING

EFFECT THAT DECISION WOULD ULTIMATELY

HAVE ON THE OUR PLAYERS OVER TIME .

REGARDING THEIR COMPETITIVENESS IN

THE INTERNATIONAL CRICKET ARENA .

In my opinion this was the first
warning that the WICBC received that
was Ignored . My take is that when this happened the onus was on the
WICBC to form a regional Pro or Semi
Pro League .

It would have been relatively easy to
do that ; because our Players & Team
were the very best in the World ; so getting Financial Sponsors would not have been a problem .

THE SECOND WARNING OCCURRED WHEN IT

WAS DECIDED TO CHANGE THE

INTERNATIONAL TOUR SCHEDULE .

This second warning was also ignored by the WICBC . About 3 or 4 years ago
it dawned on the Members of the WICBC
that there needed to be a Regional
Professional League .

The problem is that at the juncture
when this was decided , Our Players
and Teams are not as attractive as
they were in the Golden Eras of West
Indies Cricket .

MCC keeps telling unnu that cricket is a gentleman's game and brute force in any form is not cool..

So when our Players go on Tour , they are not as prepared in all facets of the game as our Players were during the golden Eras of West Indies Cricket ; IN EVERY FACET OF THE GAME .

This is precisely why in the longer versions of the game our current Players are not as competitive as they can & should be .

Therefore , in my opinion , the WICBC
is responsible for the situation that
WE now find ourselves in regarding the Standard of Cricket in the Region and the competitiveness of our Players in the International Cricket
Arena .

In essence the WICBC was given 2 warnings , that it needed to have a
Pro or Semi Pro League in the Region .Its members did nothing until 3 or 4 years ago . This was the height of
irresponsibility , and Cricket in the
Region has never recovered from those
two missed opportunities .
