Watching this on ESPN now....

I can only see about a dozen people in the stands, a smattering of applause, and the usual loud-mouth shouting advice to the bowler. This Coolidge ground doesn't seem to have a fence, so folks can watch this match for free. Some sitting under a tree, in the shade, but most are just driving past on the nearby road.

In reply to mikesiva My concern with Cornwall is that he is costing us runs in the field and is just not consistent enough. While in theory its great that WICB are putting longterm plans in place for this kid, he just turned 24 and STILL has a long way to go in losing all that weight and not leaving WI teams exposed to the opposition at international level. Imagine making a mess of things like he did at this match, with the likes of Australia or South Africa. We would end up getting destroyed by international teams (more than we do already) yet WICB want to put however many years into him while there are other talents that are fit and ready that can bat, bowl AND be athletic on the field. WICB's reasoning is just not meritable IMHO especially when i hear he doesn't even stick to his "special diet" so why waste time?!

So what you prefer they do? Ignore him and allow him to fall by the wayside? He deserves the opportunity to groom his special talent. I say special because he is very talented and he really needs to work on that weight so he could maximize his talent.

You think it easy to stay on a special diet at that age? It is a lifestyle change that is called for and that takes time. Hopefully he will mature enough to understand the importance of the lifestyle change to his athletic aspirations.

When TT lose, we are laughed at, sniggered at and mocked, when other teams lose there is serious discourse.When even our players do well you get an odd comment about it, most likely from a Trini.

In reply to voiceofreason Give me a break. Are you saying West Indies Cricket Board need to put him on a special diet and pay him special attention so he will take his cricket seriously? I recall it was some white man that invested into a young and poor Pollard to make him who he is today. I recall it was the Bravo brothers' father, that worked as a taxi driver, and invested all his time and money into getting the brothers into the right academies, to make them who they are today. But Cornwall, at age 24, needs the Board to babysit him??

The region is full of special talent and the rest of those hardworking special talents manage to stick to a proper diet and participate in fitness tests and pass, like everyone else is expected to. What are you proposing? That they send him in with all that weight to field against the likes of Australia or South Africa and ensure WI become a bigger laughing stock than we already are and lose more games than we already do? He just turned 24. He has to want to make that change (it is no secret he is not sticking to his "diet"). If he doesn't want the change, don't take someone else's opportunity away. This would not even be a consideration, let alone an argument, with any other cricket board in the world.

You contradicting your own self. Somebody invested in the players you mentioned so that is what the WICB is attempting to do with Cornwall. I applaud that. Possibly other persons have tried and been unsuccessful but maybe it could be the program or the facilitator of the program that did not work for him. If they are willing to try another approach and program, I welcome that move. If that does not work then move on.

VOR conveniently missed the rest of the post . Why should the WICB need to see about a players diet ? There should be 1st Parents involved and secondly club. Is it clear that neither of these got the talented Cornwall to change his diet . If he cannot see the benefit no on can make him see it.

Somebody invested in the players , the WICB did not. Corwall may get one season of baby sitting , I wish him well it seems to be a privileged position that most if not any are afforded.

Smh Cornwall is a special talent but there are so many others that can benefit from this sort of investment from WICB if that's the case - players who have worked hard for years and are actually match and fitness ready. Instead they are waiting on this player who is losing little weight, not sticking to his diet and still going to be fast tracked into West Indies senior team despite the glaring difficulties he is having on the field. Just like all the others determined to make it, he has to want this. He can't have his cake and eat it too (no pun intended).

Like I said I see nothing wrong with them trying to get the youth into a DIFFERENT program to see how he will respond to that. Try to understand that please. If he chooses not to work with them then he does not want it and nobody can say that they did not try. Other players are on retainers no? They had players who went into the HPC no?

It is worth a try.
