Players have welcomed the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) new Super League, which will provide the platform for them to impress national selectors and help to hone their skills for the regional cricket season.

The Super League, slated to begin tomorrow, comprises six franchise teams playing each other on a home-and-away basis over 10 rounds of two-day matches. The team which finishes with the highest number of points will be declared champions.

There are plans to also stage a 50-over tournament at the end of the two-day format.

According to the JCA, cricket selectors will choose players based on performances in the Super League and, as a result, make seasonal trial matches redundant.

Great move as guys previoudly just impress selectors in a few trial matches then fail to perform in actual matches now they are forced to perform in a league to impress selectors.

Now players have to work hard to make team, it should vastly improve the quality of the Jcan teams and should improve team's performances.

Will other Caribbean players be invited to play in the league?

No this only a Yardie ting, geared towards JA team selection. Would like to see the fast bowlers in action, Leveridge and the youngster who bowled Gayle for a duck.

Good move to start a Franchise league, shows vision, i always saw the systems that feed our first class league should be semi professional mistake not to allow caribbean players, Bajan players play in Trinidad and by the same token Trinis play in Barbados, the like of Yannic Cariah among others, it improves the standard across the board

Guyana Jaguars got a 8 team franchise 3-day and 50 overs tournament going for about 3 years now.. fellas getting a small piece to play..

Each franchise gotta play at least one U-19 player each match. The Jaguars contracted players and academy players are assigned to the different franchise teams and d remaining players are picked by the local boards..
