Devon Smith
Commenting on the make-up of this squad, Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne said, “we have retained the core of the Test team as they remain competitive even after a tough series in New Zealand. Devon Smith had an outstanding year and players who excel to that degree should be recognized. We are trying to improve our top order batting performances.”
Browne also noted that “Jamar Hamilton comes into the squad after consecutive strong performances over the last three years and showed even better quality in the A Team series against the England Lions. We wish the team every success.”

Wow, Pollo and VOR hit ecstasy (or whatever)!
Even more so that there's not a single Yardie in sight.

A strong performance in the last three years dat includes 237 runs at 16.92 last year. He must have averaged over 50 in dem 2 other years to get selected for de A team.

Who will open in the 1st test Devon or Powell ?
conventional wisdom would tell me Powell should, being the incumbent, but Devon always presents such interesting questions , why bring a man almost touching 37 into the squad unless you going to play him up front ?

Well Devon Smith as the saying goes, have more lives than a cat, I wish him well, but the Selectors are acting like the man who keeps on doing the same thing over and over again, but expects different results. So is Hamilton being selected for his wicket-keeping or batting?

Devon must have impressed in the batting camp.
Congrats Devon!
How does Gabriel make the squad? Based on what?
Is not like he was a leading wicket taker in the last PCL and he performed horribly on the tour of New Zealand

Unadultered madness. The entire selection panel should resign on this issue alone.
Devon Smith...a proven failure at test level.
There cannot be a heavy weighting attached to a first class competition which is way,way way, below standard.
And we're not talking about a 37 year old Lara, Viv or Shiv. We are talking about a first class shithound in Devon Smith.
The selectors are visionless.

Why on earth is Bishoo in the squad? This is insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cornwall versus Bishoo is not even close re: value to our team. Cornwall everyday of the week.
Warrican versus Bishoo is not even close also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother they hired a man all the way from PAKISTAN just to teach Bishman how to bowl a googly. What does this tell you
I rest my case on NoGooglyshoo. He continues to take my women and he is the best leg spinner in the Caribbean.

Oh well.....Browne has dropped the ball - again!!! :
Forward with the Star Team -- a cast of has beens, never weres and never will bes
I thought the HPC was supposed to be the magic bullet to propel the Star Team back into relevance, if not championship contention?
Isn't that what Hilaire promised us almost a decade ago?
Now Browne has retrieved a recycled failure from the garbage heap of West Indies cricket. Talk about the lack of vision, and a plan : :

Those selectors were either drunk or charged when they picked the team. They are so inconsistent that I can't even predict them. Last year they brought Gayle to England and New Zealand, today he's been replaced by another grandpa by the name of Devon Smith. This is a home series and I don't see the need for Jamar Hamilton, since he had a disappointing season and, Shai Hope is on the team as a standby wicketkeeper. Pure madness!

I would not have gone back to Devon.
Goodluck to him though.
This is your last chance, please take it.
Where is kemo Paul!!!!!
Paul is the glue we need to strengthen our bowling and batting.

In a home series Commins should be replaced by a young Jamaican speedgun I sawby the name of Roshan Thomas, Bishoo by another promising young quick from Guyana by name of Romario Shepherd, Devon Smith though he had a very good series but at 37, he doesn't have much left so Warrican would be a better selection and instead of Hamilton, who had a disappointing season, Conwall would make more sense. Jermaine Blackwood got a very raw deal I must admit

I liked Blackwood because of his fearlessness and will miss him. I hope his absence is temporary.
Not sure why Hamilton is included, perhaps to keep Dowrich on his toes?

I also think that Holder will bat at 6 and Hamilton and Powell will be left out. This combo gives 4 main bowlers and and 2 allrounders and I'm fine with that.. Bishoo and Roach are capable of giving 20 runs each down the order.

So why was Evan Lewis not given a call up, he has proven that he is an international player, in contrast Devon Smith has not proven that he is not so far.

Ambris has been a consistent performer at the first class level over the past few years. Barring injury, he should be persisted with and given a run

Maybe move the stumps further back when hes batting then?
And you talking about consistent FC performer.
So why is Cornwall not in the team?
Why is Nikita Miller not in the team?
No one has performed more consistently in regional FC cricket over the years, in any discipline, than Nikita Miller. If Devon Smith can get a recall and thats the criteria being used for selection, how do you explain Millers omission?
By the same token, how do you explain Shannon Gabriels selection?

Ease up nuh man ...
So why is Cornwall not in the team?
Man need to lose weight and get in shape. Where can you hide Cornwall on a cricket field? Slips? What happens when the ball is edged past him or the wicketkeeper? The keeper runs after it? I'm rooting for Cornwall though ...
Why is Nikita Miller not in the team?
Killa is on the ODI team. Apparently the selectors don't see him as a test bowler ...
By the same token, how do you explain Shannon Gabriels selection?
The Angel has one thing that no other WI bowler has right now--consistent heat that can frighten people. He has had a run of poor form recently, but he should be persisted with based on his form over the past few years. If Gabriel had been on the WC Qualifier team, WI would have won that tournament with ease. Most of those associate batsmen would have been running towards the square leg umpire in response to Gabriel's heat.

Ever heard of Leveridge, the Jamaican pacer?
He has real heat & frightens everybody, including his own 'keeper because he needs radar to find the stumps

Regarding Cornwall, Miller, and Gabriel....we talking performance in regional FC (4 day AKA PCL) cricket.
Cornwall and Miller are among the most consistent performers. Gabriel the opposite.
They claim regional performance should be rewarded. They never say fatness should be banned. They never say crocs should be banned from the test team (unless dem fraid Marlon).
The selection inconsistency except for one area is staggering

No places for ramdin( the best keeper batsman) lewis( the best opener)russell( the best all rounder) warrican( the best spinner)Darren bravo ( the best batsman) or Cornwall ( the best spinner allrounder)
None injured all playing all in good form.
Who selects the selectors and tells them who to select? May list above are too outspoken, too uppity or too fat.

Are you sure you follow cricket?
1) Lewis has openly stated he does not wish to play Test cricket and has not even played a 4-day tournament to qualify?
2) Russell has repeatedly stated he is unable to play Test cricket because of a fitness issue (that excuse would automatically disappear if CWI offered him IPL type money i'm sure) and has not played 4 day cricket for years to even be in contention.
3) Darren Bravo has been offered countless opportunities to qualify to return to the squad but has chosen overseas leagues.
4) Cornwall is required to lose weight and CWI have invested in numerous health and fitness regimes by high profile US institutions but he keeps putting weight on.
5) Warrican is being prepared for the A team tour to England.

And perhaps you should examine how we have wanted resources.
Bravo plays club cricket and is deliberately snubbed by ttcb...try naming the countless opportunities he has declined.
That our best players no longer are interested in employment by wicb is the issue to be considered.
Selections of jamar Hamilton and Devon smith tells a lot...there will be few attendees.
You forgot your excuse for ignoring Ramdin

Cummins is your best bowler in home conditions statswise and he did quite well against a powerful NZ batting lineup. He has to be given a chance to prove himself in a full series.

West Indies A have a tour of England next month so maybe Blackwood, Miller, Reifer, Ambris will be on that tour.

The soap opera that is called " WI cricket " continues. Miller should only be on an A team tour if he is an assistant coach, those tours should be to develop future players. Hopefully on that tour guys like Springer, Paul, Hemraj, Odean Smith, Campbell and Bramble are included.

Judgement you rush to judgement based on attitude?
Both darren Bravo and dinesh Ramdin are both highly dedicated professionals whose careers were destroyed by Cameron....now thats a fact.if they are lost to West Indies it was not their choice.
Olive branch baloney you may believe but its just not true.and no my sources are not the press..Trinidad cricket is an unholy mess caused by the Administrators and Wicb..You are familiar that Dave personally intervened to prevent Bravo playing in a practice match and the Trinidad squad?
You are entitled to disagree as there are do few facts in the public domain ( but we do know about the lack of due process) but you shouldnt assume I have no knowledge because I disagree with you.

And as for Ramdin, it is his bad attitude that is keeping him out of cricket and that is a fact. If you are so insistent on living in the past, then call for Shiv and Desmond Haynes and everyone else under the sun to return
Why not bring back a 36 year old averaging under 25 and then tell me the selectors are looking to the future.
You guys eat bs.
