St John’s, ANTIGUA – Stuart Law has resigned as Head Coach of the WINDIES Men’s team to take on a new role in January 2019.

Law, who took over as Head Coach in February 2017, leaves after guiding the Test team to series wins against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh and the ODI team through the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and into the 2019 Cricket World Cup.  Law also oversaw the first WINDIES Test Match win in England for 17 years with a five-wicket win at Headingley.

Law will continue in his role for the upcoming away series against India and Bangladesh and will leave to join Middlesex CCC in the New Year.

Stuart Law stated “I have had to make the difficult decision to leave my role of Head Coach with CWI. It has been very enjoyable, and I believe we have made tremendous strides forward as a Team during the past 2 years. I would like to thank the players, staff and the fans for their support over this period, I have appreciated it greatly. I will be taking a role with Middlesex CCC which will keep me close to my family, whilst continuing within the cricket family. I wish the players and staff of CWI every success in the future.”

Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams, said “While I regret his leaving and the timing of it, I fully understand his reasons, and along with everyone at Cricket West Indies (CWI) want to thank him for his dedication and commitment whilst in the role and wish him the very best of luck at Middlesex.”

Chief Executive, Johnny Grave commented “I am disappointed that Stuart is leaving as I believe that we have made real progress under his leadership.  I know it was a difficult decision for him and that ultimately the opportunity to work in England, where his family is now based, was a major factor in his decision.  We will start the process to appoint a new Head Coach immediately.”

So he is leaving a country team to coach a county team? It just goes to show how low the West Indies have fallen thy chase down these foreigners while coaches like Phil Simmons and Courtney Walsh are transforming minnows Afghanistan and Bangladesh into top sides.

Older Players from a variety of countries have turned their back on international cricket to play for counties... its more understandble for a coach. No idea about the money but stability and significantly less travel requirements are very attractive if you have a family.

Law has done a very decent job with the test team. Hopefully some continuity with who ever comes next.

Well no one stays in that pressure cooker job for too long, I wish Law all the best, hopefully disorder does not follow.

Finally relative improvements then the coach is gone! I wonder who will now take the position? Maybe Walsh could return home and take up the position or maybe an influential test figure like Brain Lara could inspire the young cricketers. Somehow WI cricket always seems to be in flux with an unfolding drama.

Can you please convince Jimmy Adams to say goodbye too...and maybe take Mr.Browne and the rest of the admin/coaching staff.
I detest mediocrity especially when those concerned think they are doing a fabulous job...
I am sure most are very nice and affable but that just dont cut it...we need to stop going in reverse and also in circles.
Walk good Mr.Law...no hard feelings...after all you recognised when to jump ship...hope the others do too..

Nah I only moved into the cave last week, but heres the deal though Phil Simmons was fired by the board, because he wanted to do the same thing they are trying to do now get more experienced players into the team. My overall point was though local coaches who genuinely love the West Indies are kicked to the curb even after moderate success, for foreigners who use the job as a notch on their resume.
