Out of character yes but this is exactly what the doctor ordered in this inning for West Indies on this difficult pitch.
Fight bruh, fight. I admire this test inning not for its flamboyance but for sheer tenacity. Well done.
You can resume your fight tomorrow. I salute this inning.

What a great innings by Darren Bravo.
In reply to jaba
Pybus helping rebuild Bravo..
Much needed time in the middle, the runs will come later.
In reply to jaba
He showed a great amount of character today, something that has sometimes been in question, and a lot of technique.
In reply to jaba
Well played Bravo. If light permits he should head straight to the nets with two bowlers; one bowling him some half volleys, the other some shortish balls outside his off stump and just practice some stroke making for about half an hour.
In reply to OneUp
Yep. There is a huge psychological benefit from this inning. "I can survive on this pitch, I can dominate anywhere else."
In reply to jaba
Great fight, not just by Bravo but the entire team.
Keep this up and the corner turned.
In reply to jaba
Not exactly out of character. Bravo has always struggled to rotate the strike in his test career as his batting strike rate demonstrates.
Todays innings was one where the most valuable thing for him, more than his score, and even more than this oarticular game, is the amount of time he spent at the crease. This will serve him and the team in good stead in matches to come.
Larrs wish for him in this inning has come true.
In reply to NineMiles
Bruh, the corner is no where in sight yet. But I can see green shoots.
In reply to imusic
Bruh, not having the ability to rotate the strike makes this inning all the more exceptional. The number of balls he had to survive on this pitch with consistent international bowlers...remarkable.
In reply to jaba
Agree!
Dr Shiv's legaceeeeeeeeeeeee
The same man some hypocrites on this thread used to call selfish and playing for not out
Lagaceeeeeeeeeeeeee Dr Shiv
BTW: Excellent knock so far by Bravo...
In reply to imusic
To come back and bat like that on this pitch, shows heart and determination.
Very good going so far.
Peeps on this thread who cuss Paint for his style now bigging up Bravo
this worl nuh level
Bravo can see he is in a real team that fights and he is fighting his way into shape to pull his weight. His experience can only lend to their growth.
In reply to Kay
If you cannot see the context then I cannot help you.

Captain $ammy tried that before and it didn't go well.

With some luck...radio commies said he was dropped by Butler off Broac. Apparently routine chance.
Butler might not play for England again after todays dropped catches
Darren Goigh saidnthe thrning point before lunch was Butlers dropped catch of Campbell off Broad.
Then he come again and drop Bravo. Both apparently routine slip catches.
In reply to imusic
Paul Collingwood said that Butler is one the safest slip catchers in the team..
Not too long ago de man said that on sky.. They went reviewing the day play..
In reply to imusic
Bruh, every batsman who bats on this pitch will need an element of luck. In fact, some great cricket scores have evolved thru history from initial drop catches. The general discussion however is simply this: Bravo's tenacity in this inning has been exceptional and it is reflected in the number of crucial partnerships that have so far featured his name.
The fight these guys are showing is a breath of fresh air.
Just amazing!
In reply to Khaga
Naw the big EDiot at the stadium and gave him a pep talk.
Lara has been working with him behind the scenes.
In reply to seaegg99
Amen to that comment, brother. Spot on. Nothing like team spirit to pull others along to do their best.
In reply to DonD
Maan, I am totally exhausted physically and mentally just concentrating on how to manoeuvre each ball bowled to him. Dehydrated from sweating it out!
Light should save him from this tough task master, but definitely tomorrow morning before start of play.
Vijay, Tiger and some others will go do something like that just after a round of golf.
In reply to jaba
Not out of character. It was what was required and he showed character.
Did you see the acknowledgement and look of respect Broad showed him at the end of play? Worth more than a thousand words.
In reply to goofballs
It was out of character. Bravo has never batted so slow in a test. At one point his SR was 18.
In reply to Kay Lil B staying at the crease to get back his groove. Fact...I just can't believe some of you fellas!
In reply to jaba
If he had attempted to bat any faster he would have been in the pavilion this morning!
In reply to goofballs
And hence the reason for me saying that he batted out of character to help him survive.
In reply to jaba
Ok, POINT noted!
What a mature and probably winning innings so far.
In reply to jaba
Why does SR matter when it's a 5 day test.
Even our cricket sense has been uosurped by 20/20.
In reply to Tagwa1
Exactly
I am extremely happy. Bravo is a fighter. This the medicine that the doctor ordered.
Well done to bravo and all batsmen by the home team. Fight and application..
Burn dem visitors in d sun
In reply to Kay
Dem gwine tiad see Paint face!!!
Bravo"s inning is what the WI have been missing since Chanderpaul left, someone to stabilize things, hopefully this innings help him to regain his confidence so he will be ready for the W/C.
In reply to jaba
Jaba, I believe that in cricket usage INNING(S) is always pluralised.(innings) Please note, this in no way is meant to a criticism.
Well I am glad Bravo is getting praise for an ugly innings, but what is required in a test match sometimes. That "stickabilty", playing the "unflamboyant" innings, grinding the opposition down is required sometimes.
I SO wanted him to do well. Happy for him. If he does well, West Indies does well.
In reply to Tagwa1
Remember, just the odda day they used to play for up to nine days or so or until the ship ready to leave port.
Men fight to the death to defend country and crown.
I remember reading about one Englishman walking all around the boundary when given out to delay time for the oher batsman to come in, hoping to kill the clock!
In reply to DonD
Thanks bruh, I have been in the Caribbean and followed this wonderful game long enough not have known this. I toiled long and hard to decide this (inning thing) and eventually followed what I thought was a grammar rule. I tried playing it safe like Bravo.
Great character by Bravo.
In reply to jaba
Steve Waugh double
In reply to Poggy too numerous to count, and a lot done by us.
In reply to Kay
Tink de men easy?
In reply to Yamfoot
Did you watch the first test?
Let's see if Bravo came change gears as he must do with the fall of Holder's wicket. However, I don't pretend to know the strategy of the dressing room. That strategy should unfold shortly.
Broad to Darren Bravo, no run, Bravo cops another blow on his finger - throws away the bat in angst and is in need of some medical attention. Broad shortened his length and got it to rear onto the left-hander, Bravo was prodding forward in defence and is struck a painful blow, winces in pain, but decides to bat on
Lil B is still taking a battering....another one on his fingers
This is real commitment to WI cricket
This has definitely answered all his critics

The whole ground standing for Al JO..whose MOM has passed
In reply to Narper
This is so touching. I applaud the young man. I could not have done this. This epitomizes the mood and spirit in the team.

Jaba
We mere humans would have dropped everything to be with family.
If I'm reading the stats correctly, the slowest 50 in Test cricket was....
1) Trevor Bailey - 350 balls
2) Chris Tavare - 236 balls
Will Lil Bravo take second place away from Tavare?
In reply to goofballs
Bruh, you are correct. Further, where would I have found the strength to deal with this?
In reply to mikesiva
Yep. We haven't come close to any world record in recent times.
In reply to goofballs
Correction....
Here are the stats
1) Trevor Bailey - 350 balls
2) Alan Border - 262 balls
3) EJ Gray - 238 balls
4) Chris Tavare - 236 ball
5) PL Taylor - 235 balls
6) BA Young - 229 balls
7) Chris Tavare - 219 balls
Jeff Crowe - 212 balls

Stokes to Alzarri Joseph, out Caught by Rory Burns! Good catch low to his right! Angling in and straightening subtly from the original line, just enough, squares Alzarri Joseph up on the backfoot, takes a thick edge, and flies quickly to the left of Burns at 3rd slip who moves swiftly to his right to take a sharp catch. Thunderous applause for Joseph who has shown immense courage walking out to bat this morning. Windies lose their 9th.
Alzarri Joseph c Rory Burns b Stokes 7(20) [4s-1]
What would Lara do in such a situation?
Chance his arm?
I say don't do it. Stay, bruk dem (and de pitch) down.

Moeen Ali to Darren Bravo, 1 run, angled in straight towards the stumps, and tucked away towards mid-wicket for a single - an uncharacteristic 215-ball half-century, slowest by a Windies batsman in Test cricket, but an extremely vital one

Moeen Ali to Darren Bravo, out Stumped! A fantastic, epic vigil comes to an end. No less than a hundred in these conditions. Believe the experts if my word isn't enough. Tempts him with the turn from the round the wicket angle, gets it to turn away, Darren Bravo is tempted to come down the track
