He should be sent home and be replaced with K pollard.

If Dre Russ is not fit
In reply to Redstar
Why Pollard?
In reply to Sangfroid
The only difference is that Polly wouldn't be able to use the "injured" excuse
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Actually, the numbers don't support you, again.
In reply to Redstar
That's when sentiment rules common sense.
You can select a squad for a tournament this long and in the given format and not pick players who are at 100% fitness levels as the first pre-requisite. I don't care if the name is Sir Garry far less Dre Russell.
What hurts more than the poor cricket is how often we look and act like dunces!!!
In reply to mkcharles
The same "unfit" player contributed "majorly" to WI's only win. What a thing...
In reply to Sangfroid
One out of 3 ain't too bad you know?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
It's the alternative that's baffling...
In reply to Sangfroid
Boss, as I said a tournament of this duration and format, not the odd match.
You will also note that his best performance was also his first. Why do you think this is?
This has nothing about his quality and ability, its about making decisions to win games of cricket for the TEAM and to get us in a position to try to qualify for the next stage. Most of this same squad MINUS Dre played well recently in the Caribbean.
We always revert to form we always give credence to the players we feel are Un-droppable at the expense of the TEAM.
I don't see how any reasonable person can say Dre is a long term benefit to this team if he is not 100%.
In reply to mkcharles
I will take a half-fit Russell over Pollard, any day. Thank you.
In reply to Sangfroid
I won't take Pollard any day thank you. So you see we closer to the same than not.
In reply to Sangfroid
How about neither
In reply to Redstar
Can he be replaced without picking up a new injury?
In reply to Maispwi
good question.
Well have him "trod" on a ball in practice or "slip" in the bathroom.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
In 50 over cricket, Pollard, Russell, DJ Bravo, CB, Sammy you can put all of they names in a bag and pull out one, they are all the same type of players and they only know one way to play, that is in T20 mode. We like the 2 big sizes over 90m, the spectacular catches but when the pot boil down that is all you are going to get, there is no substance.
In reply to Redstar
I will always take players like Woakes and Coulter-Nile over Russell. He is just a good cane cutter and moreover he is not fit. Windies are ruining their chances of progressing in this WC by playing Russell, Brathwaite and Nurse.
In reply to darthvader
I know nothing about Coulter-Nile but Woakes is a decent batsman not in the mode of Russell and the others.
I disagree Russell is very talented but because of his injuries over the years he could only play T20 cricket, now he plays only in that mode.
In reply to Redstar
Its better if Russell drops himself. He is not fit. Keemo Paul must take his place. Hope they will also send Brathwaite home and take some reliable batsman in his place.
In reply to Redstar
Russell should not have been there in the first place. His body CANNOT take the pressure of 50 overs. But if he had made himself unavailable then the same people criticising his lack of fitness now would have been cursing and questioning his loyalty. As has happened with Narine.
In reply to mkcharles
The only reason for suggesting Pollard it is a like for like replacement.
The player that everyone agrees should be in the squad is K Paul.
In reply to bobby
I have absolutely no issues with Dre, he is giving 100%, but he is not fit. So for the benefit of the team he should gave way.
Narine on the other is a different story, his reason for pulling out was a bruise finger which he was playing with in the IPL,this was around mid April, how long would it take his finger to heal enough for him to bowler 10 overs? IMO there are other reasons why he didn't want to play.
You are a special kind of silly, aren't you?
