New Zealand (Playing XI):

Narper 2019-06-22 11:27:38

What to expect:
The weather is set to be mercifully dry for this game although the sun may be again conspicuous by its absence. The surface, different to that for the first two games here, had a green tinge on Friday but is expected to be a typical Old Trafford surface; some pace, bounce and a little movement for the bowlers but giving the batsmen opportunity to play their shots.

Narper 2019-06-22 11:32:43

Although West Indies racked up more than 400 and beat New Zealand in a warm-up match before the World Cup, the two teams have not met in an ODI proper for 18 months.

When they did last face-off, New Zealand won a home series three-zip. Their last meeting before that was in the 2015 World Cup quarter-finals, a memorable match in which Martin Guptill scored a remarkable 237 not out. He helped New Zealand rack up 393 and they bowled West Indies out for 250. It doesn't often get more comprehensive.

We have some inside info from Old Trafford and it appears like Carlos Brathwaite is set to replace the injured Andre Russell, who has been ruled out of this feature due to a knee injury.

Based on exactly WHAT?

sudden 2019-06-22 12:05:11

Russell must be paralysed cos a partially injured Russell is 10 times better than a fully fit Carlos

Narper 2019-06-22 12:06:15

Holder:
We are going to field first, looks a pretty good wicket. We know what's at stake, we got to bring our A game. We haven't been consistent. We have got three changes.

Darren Bravo is out, Ashley Nurse comes in. Shanon Gabriel is out and Kemar Roach comes in. Carlos Braithwaite is in for Andre Russell.

Williamson:
No doubt the surface will remain similar throughout. We know that they are a threat and have world class players. We should adapt to the conditions and have done well so far. You have to put your best foot forward. At the moment, the team remains the same.

It's beautiful and warm here in Manchester. This is a well proportioned ground. I think this is going to be the best pitch so far in this tournament. It's a belter. Expect a high-scoring game

Cottrell to Guptill, out Lbw!! Wow! West Indies couldn't have got a better start here after electing to bowl first. Sensational delivery from Cottrell. Searing yorker that swung in incredibly to ping Guptill on the boot as he was late in getting his bat down on the squeeze. Cottrell went up straightaway and was very confident. Convinced his skipper to take the review and he was spot-on

Cottrell to Guptill, OUT, starts off with a wonderful yorker first up and goes up in loud appeal. Shake of the head by the umpire and Jason Holder has gone up for a review. Ultra-Edge confirms no bat.Pitches on middle, swings in late, and it's taking out leg stump. What a start for West Indies! Wicket off the first ball, and it's Martin Guptill, the man who hit 237 against them in the 2015 World Cup quarterfinal

Kane Williamson in, second ball of the match. Monga from Old Trafford: "DRS can't suppress the Cottrell salute. He waited out of the huddle as they watched the replay, and made sure he was in position to salute."

W
Cottrell to Munro, OUT, take a bow Sheldon Cottrell. take a salute. Inswinging yorker, late swing again and Colin Munro has no clue about it as it shatters his stumps. He's got both openers for golden ducks in his opening over.

Gawn again !!!!

0.5

Cottrell to Munro, out Bowled!! Oh my word! This swung in like a snake on narcotics. Absolute peach from Cottrell, it's getting better and better for him. Munro had no clue there as he was late to spot that. Very full, almost a yorker length aiming at the base of off and it swung in the air which perhaps must've fooled Munro. Goes through his defences and knocks the off-stump. Cottrell is on fire and does his trademark salute again. Both openers gone for New Zealand, this has been a disastrous start for the Kiwis.

Thomas to Williamson, FOUR, nice shot! Width on offer, Williamson sees the opportunity and pounces on it. Cuts it well past the fielder at point and beats the sprinter at third man as well

Another record for Chris Gayle. Incredibly, he's now the West Indian with the highest number of ODI wickets against New Zealand! The man he's gone past? Courtney Walsh.

Gayle should be bowling at over 12 in this innings.

Gayle fact No.1024: Did you know he has the most wickets among players in this West Indies squad? (He has the most runs too of course). But hold on to those celebrations, he's walking off the field. Maybe that punch in the air caused a twinge in his right shoulder after all.

Was there an inside edge? West Indies look convinced and the two umpires are converging, that means Ian Gould thinks KW got an inside edge.

The third umpire will be called into question once again, the soft signal is OUT.

It's a fair delivery, think it went right into the webbings of Shai Hope. No, the ball popped out and hit the ground ehen his elbow hit the ground, it will be NOT OUT

17.6
Santner to Gayle, FOUR, in the air and put down by Munro. Well, what's going on? Second drop in the over and you can't afford to give chances to a batsman like Gayle. Slower and on middle, Gayle smashed it without any timing and towards deep mid-wicket. Munro had to run across the turf, covers good ground and gets both hands. Like Henry, he too fails to pocket it. Although it was a relatively tough chance but you got to grab those

West Indies require another 154 runs with 8 wickets and 29.0 overs remaining

Hugh: "WI need to be careful attacking the long leg side boundary, they're the longest boundaries at the WC. They lost a lot of wickets trying to go over the ropes against England and they've not really learnt." - that was a different ground, the Rose Bowl. This is Old Trafford.

hardik: "Good to see WI get a bit of luck going their way, after Andre Russell's perennial injury and NCN and Bangladesh edged their way to glory against them."

Narper 2019-06-22 18:38:13

BOWLED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

22.1
Ferguson to Hetmyer, out Bowled!! Slower ball works wonders for Ferguson. Hetmyer gets defeated by lack of pace and hears the death rattle. Ferguson roars and claps in delight. This the breakthrough the Kiwis were looking for and Ferguson has gotten rid of the dangerous Hetmyer. It was banged on a short of length, didn't have any pace and the youngster was early into his swing. Gets completely undone there as it slides through and knocks the top of leg-stump. Huge wicket for New Zealand.

Ferguson to Holder, out Caught by Latham!! Loud appeal and up goes the finger. Two in two for Ferguson, what a turnaround this in a matter of two balls. West Indies captain gone for a golden duck and they are under the pump now. Very poor from Holder, it was full and wide of off, wise thing would've been to let it go. But instead, he chases without any feet movement and feeds a faint edge to the keeper. New Zealand back in the game

Boult to Lewis, out Caught by Neesham!! Catching practice for Neesham and West Indies like Lewis are slowly limping their way out of the World Cup. Banged in short and well outside off, Lewis swivelled across on the pull, struck it pretty neatly - but didn't find the gap nor kept it along the ground, straight into the bucket like hands of Neesham at deep mid-wicket. A horrendous collapse from the kings of Calypso and we are into the first of three number elevens.

Kane Williamson (MoM)
- Obviously, West Indies are incredibly dangerous, the power they generate throughout the order, we saw it even today. Not the best of starts, they got the ball to swing which made life incredibly difficult. They bowled in the right areas for a lengthy amount of time, the ball did a bit, we did well to put on partnerships which helped us post a decent total on the board. It didn't do anything like that in the second innings though, but a great game of cricket. We have been to different venues and it's been different conditions, got plenty of swing in Cardiff (in our first game) and a variety in other places including some rain. We have been able to adjust according to the conditions. I wanted to be clear in my mind, wanted to play according to the merit of the ball, make the best possible decisions and play according to the situation of the game

Holder:
Tough game. Proud of the guys. Chris set the tone for us. Lot of positives. One two areas we looked poor. You can't fault the efforts. We needed to seize a few moments. We lost wickets at crucial stages. I came in and got out. Credit to Kemar to get that partnership with Carlos. Win all three hopefully. We have our pride to play for.

best thing about Holder's reply is that it was short
