Add Sir Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Not according to Cricinfo
Gordon Greenidge, who played alongside Lloyd for West Indies, receives the order of St Michael and St George Knight Commander;
In reply to Khaga
What does knight commander mean?
And Conde obe
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
That's a lower honour than a knighthood. In effect, it's a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
In reply to mikesiva
Knight commander is a knighthood
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Who knows! F Brits and their so called honors.. I was pointing out the difference in the alleged title..
In reply to hubert
The DUKESTER couldah get Knighthood too.
Such an anachronism but I guess these meaningless titles still matter to some!
Just dessert for Margaret Thatcher's lawn jockey!
In reply to Larr Pullo
Yeah! The big pussy got knighted. Just read the media release... Never knew he played 2 decades for lancashire.
In reply to Larr Pullo
I always thought that he was already knighted.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Rather late, I would say.
Her Majesty may have now forgotten the weeping and wailing of her people, at the hands of Clive Lloyd's West Indies!
Mental slaves all
In reply to Chrissy
Guyana recognizes knighthoods?
In reply to goofballs
No
In reply to Chrissy
Some West Indians still think this knighthood thing is important.
I wonder why Ryan and Arawak will start conferring knighthoods on cc.com people?
I don't like British titles because they stink of hierarchical class culture. And class culture in Britain puts the boot on the masses.
Knighthood is a position that says 'kiss my ring and be forever reverent because I'm superior to your achievement whatever it may be'
How can we erase this negative British influence on our culture?
In reply to Larr Pullo
And I thought Guyana was a Republic, and, like T&T, no longer recognizes her Majesty as Head of State.
In reply to sunfish
Erase? Many West Indians cherish it. Antigua even officially adopted the practice!
In reply to Drapsey
The title is simply ceremonial. It does not have to be recognized by any government. It probably just gets you a seat in a London pub, or in a CWI committee, more quickly!
In reply to Drapsey
Soup drinker Lloyd is a meek and loyal subject of Her Majesty..
Carefully parse this..The title means Lloyd fought om behalf of the British..His team decimated England on the field. Is Lloyd symbolically surrendering the accomplishments of his team for the sake of this fake title?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Yes, you're right. The knight commander is addressed as "sir" as well.
I really dislike the British honours system, but there you go.
Why do West Indians think that colonial titles will bring us glory? The British system is the past but we keep going back to it..
In reply to Drapsey
Guyana remains a Co-operative Republic (unlike Trinidad), therefore they can accept knighthood
Fork the knighthood and all who embrace it
2019 the year of return and we are covering ourselves with their tarnished symbols
In reply to Yadi
I am accepting it also.
Are you serious??????
In reply to Chrissy
Some would say...benighted....
It is about time for Sir Lloyd. Happy for the man.
In reply to ponderiver
Some covering themselves with a bit more than the symbols
In reply to Norm
I know and knew more than a few of the mental slaves. It disgusts me.

In reply to Chrissy
Dame Chrissy has a nice ring to it.
I suppose Viv took his for country/ government reasons. Richardson/Roberts and Ambrose followed suit.
A country like Jamaica can rebuke such accolades. So well known and influential established around the globe. Holding would never go near it.
In reply to ponderiver
yet you have a tarnished passport and accent, yuh tosser
He was not knighted as a Guyanese or a West Indian but as a British citizen. He is not listed in the foreign list like Greenidge.
In reply to Raggs

In reply to Yadi
In reply to Chrissy
That was very generous of Her Majesty. However, mi never know that Guyana allows his citizens to accept one of dem titles! Any way, this one seems to be the real McCoy and like the ones Antigua like to throw around.
In reply to Norm
KNIGHTHOOD? KNOGHTHOOD? KNIGHTHOOD!!! HOOD + KNIGHT : WHITEHOOD WHITEHOODED KNIGHT??? HOOD......RIGHT?
In reply to Larr Pullo
