FuzzyWuzzy 2019-12-27 23:20:29

Add Sir Cuthbert Gordon Greenidge

Khaga 2019-12-27 23:26:37

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Not according to Cricinfo

Gordon Greenidge, who played alongside Lloyd for West Indies, receives the order of St Michael and St George Knight Commander;

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-12-27 23:35:00

In reply to Khaga

What does knight commander mean?

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-12-27 23:35:34

And Conde obe

mikesiva 2019-12-27 23:38:48

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

That's a lower honour than a knighthood. In effect, it's a Commander of the British Empire (CBE).

FuzzyWuzzy 2019-12-27 23:39:41

In reply to mikesiva

Knight commander is a knighthood

Khaga 2019-12-27 23:40:26

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Who knows! F Brits and their so called honors.. I was pointing out the difference in the alleged title.. lol

Yadi 2019-12-28 00:08:18

In reply to hubert

The DUKESTER couldah get Knighthood too.

jacksprat 2019-12-28 00:20:54

Such an anachronism but I guess these meaningless titles still matter to some!

Just dessert for Margaret Thatcher's lawn jockey!

Cricket_101 2019-12-28 00:38:33

In reply to Larr Pullo
Yeah! The big pussy got knighted. Just read the media release... Never knew he played 2 decades for lancashire.

Slipfeeler 2019-12-28 00:40:32

In reply to Larr Pullo

I always thought that he was already knighted.

Norm 2019-12-28 00:41:04

In reply to Larr Pullo

Rather late, I would say.

Her Majesty may have now forgotten the weeping and wailing of her people, at the hands of Clive Lloyd's West Indies! smile

Chrissy 2019-12-28 01:02:13

Mental slaves all

goofballs 2019-12-28 01:53:14

In reply to Chrissy

Guyana recognizes knighthoods?

Chrissy 2019-12-28 01:58:32

In reply to goofballs

No

Norm 2019-12-28 02:08:36

In reply to Chrissy

Mental slaves all

Some West Indians still think this knighthood thing is important.

I wonder why Ryan and Arawak will start conferring knighthoods on cc.com people? smile

sunfish 2019-12-28 02:25:00

I don't like British titles because they stink of hierarchical class culture. And class culture in Britain puts the boot on the masses.

Knighthood is a position that says 'kiss my ring and be forever reverent because I'm superior to your achievement whatever it may be'

How can we erase this negative British influence on our culture?

Drapsey 2019-12-28 02:30:04

In reply to Larr Pullo

And I thought Guyana was a Republic, and, like T&T, no longer recognizes her Majesty as Head of State.

Norm 2019-12-28 02:31:38

In reply to sunfish

How can we erase this negative British influence on our culture?

Erase? Many West Indians cherish it. Antigua even officially adopted the practice!

Norm 2019-12-28 02:34:58

In reply to Drapsey

The title is simply ceremonial. It does not have to be recognized by any government. It probably just gets you a seat in a London pub, or in a CWI committee, more quickly!

Khaga 2019-12-28 02:40:53

In reply to Drapsey

Soup drinker Lloyd is a meek and loyal subject of Her Majesty..

Khaga 2019-12-28 02:54:10

Carefully parse this..The title means Lloyd fought om behalf of the British..His team decimated England on the field. Is Lloyd symbolically surrendering the accomplishments of his team for the sake of this fake title?

mikesiva 2019-12-28 04:27:36

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

Yes, you're right. The knight commander is addressed as "sir" as well.

I really dislike the British honours system, but there you go.

sunfish 2019-12-28 04:47:21

Why do West Indians think that colonial titles will bring us glory? The British system is the past but we keep going back to it..

outside_edge 2019-12-28 06:11:42

In reply to Drapsey
Guyana remains a Co-operative Republic (unlike Trinidad), therefore they can accept knighthood

ponderiver 2019-12-28 06:36:16

Fork the knighthood and all who embrace it
2019 the year of return and we are covering ourselves with their tarnished symbols rolleyes

Raggs 2019-12-28 13:34:04

I suppose Viv took his for country/ government reasons. Richardson/Roberts and Ambrose followed suit.
A country like Jamaica can rebuke such accolades. So well known and influential established around the globe. Holding would never go near it.

sudden 2019-12-28 13:41:46

In reply to ponderiver

yet you have a tarnished passport and accent, yuh tosser

bobby 2019-12-28 14:07:13

He was not knighted as a Guyanese or a West Indian but as a British citizen. He is not listed in the foreign list like Greenidge.

XDFIX 2019-12-28 14:34:10

In reply to Raggs

In reply to Chrissy

That was very generous of Her Majesty. However, mi never know that Guyana allows his citizens to accept one of dem titles! Any way, this one seems to be the real McCoy and like the ones Antigua like to throw around. wink
