The Guyana Amazon Warriors have appointed Chris Green as their captain for the 2020 season. The Australian off-spinning all-rounder is back with the Amazon Warriors for the third year having first played for the Franchise in 2018, and he has taken 23 wickets at an average of 22 in his 23 matches for the team. 

Green stood in as Captain during the 2018 season so this will be his second spell in charge of the Amazon Warriors. A firm fan favourite, Green was part of the Guyana team who finished as runners up at the Hero CPL in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons and he will be hoping he can lead the team to their first title in 2020. 

Chris Green said: “I am hugely excited to be back with the Amazon Warriors for another season and honoured to be leading them for this season. Guyana is somewhere I am hugely fond of and we are very confident that this is the year that we can win the Hero CPL title for our amazing fans back home.”

Very smart moves in the selection of Green as captain and Pooran as vice-captain.My first inclination was to make the New Zealander Taylor,the captain but when they announced Green as captain I realized they were absolutely right.Taylor does not know the players and the bonds that Green has already forged with the other players will stand him in good stead.The appointment of Pooran as vice-captain is another very clever move.What it does is cement Pooran into the team for the long term because he is the heir apparent for the captaincy of the teamPooran at age 25 can reasonably expect to be captain of the Warriors in a year or two and obviously will have less incentive to return to TKR.Please remember that unless TKR make him their marquee player he will always get more money playing for the Warriors.

A Guyanese not good enough to be captain or VC? You got a former WI U19 world cup winning captain and VC in the squad.

Green and Sinclair competing for one spot.. with Green as the captain Sinclair will be on the bench for the entire tournament.. Sinclair got potential to be a better player than Green, plus he doesn't fling.

Pooran is already the highest paid player. The only way he leaving to go TKR is they offer him the same money or if he wanna represent his franchise from his home country for less.

Nothing wrong with Pooran getting captain or VC. If it was up to me Hety would've been captain and Pooran VC not Green. Green ever captained another team before? You seriously think he know the local players more than Hety or Pooran? He got more experience than them?

This is his first year in the CPL.. made his debut for WI Emerging team in the super50 and was one of the leading spinners in the tournament.. bowled most of his overs in the power play.

Green has been captain before in T20 cricket, he was for a few matches a few seasons ago for an injured captain and he also captained Birmingham in the English League.

I am not treating Hetty as shyte and I am looking towards the development of Sinclair as a first class cricketer.When you focus on shoveling as much money into young cricketers without developing their talent, you end up with undeveloped cricketers who end up working at KFC.

Let Sinclair play a full season of 4 day cricket and develop his talent rather than focus on T 20 cricket.
You have to develop your skills at first class cricket BEFORE you play 20/20 cricket.
Look at all the other test playing nations and look at their T 20 players who are all experienced FIRST CLASS CRICKETERS

I live in Calgary, dont know or care where the captains of the Calgary Flames or Calgary Stampeders where born.
Just need the teams to win.
It is time cricket management take responsibility of the captain role in cricket.

And I don't agree with you on you gotta devolop your skills in FC before you play T20.. How many FC matches did Pollard and Russell play?. The two of them are two of the best t20 players in the world right now.

Anyways even CWI think Hety should be captain.. in a post on their facebook page they listed him as captain instead of Green

I fundamentally disagree with several assertions you have made in the above statement.
If you look at the top ICC batting rankings of T 20 players you will see people like Babar Azam(64),Aaoron Finch(88 )Colin Munroe(48 ) Glen Maxwell (67)and Virat(118 ) ,all of whom have played a significant amount of First class cricket. Pollard is ranked 80th.
Pollard has played 73 T 20 International matches and has 4 half-centuries for an average of 23,while Russell has played 49 T 20 Internationals and has never scored a 50.In any case Hetty is in a different trajectory from Russell and Pollard and who can be a future WI TEST CAPTAIN and SUCCESSFUL West Indies TEST CRICKETER.Hetty has played only 55 T 20 matches compared to 127 for Pooran so let Pooran be cappo next year with Hetty his vice cappo but MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY let Hetty be the Jaguars Cappo for FIRST CLASS CRICKET!!!!!

Look at England and Australia's T 20 team batsmen and you will se that all of them have played a significant amount of T 20 cricket.In my view it is LAZINESS that causes WI players to not play first class cricket because it requires development of real CRICKET SKILLS.If you are a proper batsman you can score singles and doubles of most good balls as well as put away the bad balls for boundaries and end up with a scoring rate of 125 and averaging over 30.People like Pollard and Russell will occasionally give you a 35 of 15 balls but that does not translate into frequent victories.You guys are seduced by once every 20 innings a score of 45 off 15 balls.

Dwl...did u just say Pollard and Russell will occasionally give you a 35 off 25 balls but that really translate into frequent victories? Are you listening to yourself? Check your stats and tell me if Kohli, Finch, Munroe, Azam etc has more man of the match performances than Russell and Pollard. And of course u won't find many T20 players who bat at number 6 and 7 making many 50s because most times they come in with only 15 or 20 balls to face and their job is to get you a quick 35 off 15

You would want your best batsmen to have the most opportunity to face the most balls!!!If pollard was that good he would come in with at least 10 overs to go.However he does not.

You deliberately used T20I stats alone to make your point.. why did you leave out their stats from other T20s? Could add Badree and Narine to the list of successful T20 players who played little FC cricket.

The standard of many of the T 20 matches is very low and are largely irrelevant to proper cricket.I am much more interested in International cricket.I would have thought that when you are talking about people like Hetty and Pooran and Russell we would be looking at INTERNATIONAL CRICKET.If your focus is domestic T 20 cricket,I am only interested in the entertainment value as it is not serious cricket.It is precisely because these guys have no grounding in first class cricket that they can not last 40 balls in T 20 Internationals.
