ST JOHN'S, Antigua —  The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today named the West Indies Test and One-Day International (ODI) squads for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. West Indies are scheduled to play three ODIs and two Tests in Chattogram and Dhaka.

The West Indies touring party are due to arrive in Dhaka on January 10 and the series will run until February 15. West Indies are scheduled to play three ODIs and two Tests in Chattogram and Dhaka in a shortened tour.

The following players declined the opportunity to tour due to COVID-19 related concerns or personal fears: Jason Holder, Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran. Fabian Allen and Shane Dowrich are unavailable due to personal reasons.

Interesting to see if any of these players are happy to go to India.

Bangladesh seems to have weathered coronavirus better than England and India.

Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran are currently playing in the Big Bash, so that's clearly their priority right now....

I wonder what they are afraid of. These bubbles seem very safe.
However I understand the continued stress of bubble living and wanting to be home to preserve sanity.

Well if the Selectors knew that all these players were not going to go, why are they continuing to hold the tour? It would have, IMO been more appropriate to call it an A team tour. Some of these players degrade the standard of what a Test cricketer should be.

Same thought crossed my mind too. These young players need continuity to develop, and Chemar is worth the investment, IMO.

Why take both Warrican and Permaul? One of them should have been left out to make way for Chemar Holder. Bangladesh wickets would probably favor spin, but out fast bowlers need to learn to bowl on all types of wickets.

The WI players currently in the Big Bash, among them Jason Holder, obviously prefer being there than in Bangladesh, which is a sign of things to come.

Before blaming anyone, you should find out if this tour is part of the ICC formats.
South Africa is in Sri Lanka, India in Australia and Pakistan in New Zealand.
The players that have declined, may have health concerns.

In this case it will not matter if it is in the ICC format, because after the tour is over the WI will be further down the Test rating standings. They might do okay in the ODI's however.

Oh well, the series could have been re-arrange, I think I read lately that an other Test series was cancelled because of one team not comfortable touring an Asian country because of safety concerns.

South Africa should have toured the Caribbean in the summer, but that series was cancelled/postponed....

A few days after the NZ tour; I recall seeing a thread about the players complaining that been in a bubble cases emotional stress and anxiety.
I don't know how credible that statement was but to me it has validity. Also, if you include those that played in the CPL over the past 6-months a good chunk of their lives have been spent in isolation.
Therefore I can see why they may not want to participate in the upcoming tour. The risk is that they may not ever play for WI again.

CWI need the revenue, our players pay was cut in half the last two tours.
Players concerns, seem to being in a bubble.

What about Paul? He is not on the 'declined selection' list nor any of the squads.

I know he is currently in the Big Bash but so is Holder and Pooran who indicated their unavailability ..

Disband West Indies cricket! Let these dumb asses go find work! Using covid-19 as excuse. Let's hope wherever they go to play their T20 they are able to avoid covid.
