ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that Kraigg Brathwaite will replace Jason Holder as the West Indies Test Captain. Brathwaite, who has previously led the team in seven Tests whilst deputizing for Holder, including the recent 2-0 Test Series win away to Bangladesh, becomes the 37th Test Captain of the West Indies.

Holder, the current No.1 all-rounder in the ICC Test rankings, captained the West Indies team in 37 Tests since taking over from Denesh Ramdin in 2015, leading the side to 11 wins, 5 draws and 21 defeats.

Jimmy Adams, CWI Director of Cricket paid tribute to Holder saying: “On behalf of CWI, I would like to thank Jason for all he has given to the game in the region while serving as Captain of our Test team. Throughout his five-and-a-half-year tenure, he has led with dignity while always upholding the highest values of the sport. As the world’s leading Test all-rounder, we all believe that Jason still has a tremendous role to play in West Indies Test Cricket for many years to come.”

Congrats to Kraigg B, he deserves it, Holder is a great guy and he had a lot of time to improve his on field strategies, but he never did, losing the ODI captaincy should have woke him up. Now Holder could concentrate on becoming the best all-rounder in the World again.

I think west indies cricket just paved the way for Jason to follow the likes of Pollard, Gayle, Russell and others to take his talent to the IPL and big money games

In reply to Sylobaby Nothing personal against Kraigg Brathwaite but it is very unfair to give the captaincy to Kraigg at a time when he is a very big reason for the failure of Holder and West Indies, because he was not getting runs. In fact as the main batsman when was the last time he scored a hundred for West indies? Holder had a double against England recently. As our main batsman Kraigg is averaging under 33 runs per game whereas Holders average is just about the same and, has been taking wickets. Captains don't win games by themselves as we all know winning is a teamwork. Kraigg is a main part of the reason why Holder didn't win more games because of his poor form and therefore should not be rewarded with captaincy at this time

Think that’s a oxymoron decision. Holder has done well in captain capacity and don’t see what value Kraigg will add to game.

A circle is complete...... after assuming charge of the administration.... entire team management was changed with the exception of Holder as test captain......All the changes hardly made any impact....Our performance in the white ball cricket has worsened..,.. Let's wait and see the impact of this particular change....most of the series at home....it would be easier to assess..... Hopefully at the end of the entire home series..Sri Lanka, South Africa...... Braithwaite can hold on to his place as batsman/captain in the team....All the best!!!!!

A natural course of action by CWI, given the results of the Test series in Bangladesh under Kraigg. JHo's cricket and T20 league availability would no doubt benefit from this as well.

Congrats to Brathwaite, wishing him success in the role as captain and hopefully a return of big scores in batting.

Hopefully Jason doesn't take his career solely to the T/20 circuit. He still has a lot to offer.

Vamos and others let's not forget that it's the same Holder that led West Indies to a test series win against England recently, something we had not done in many years! It's the same Holder that led West Indies one up in England though they didn't win the series. It's the same Holder that was showered with praise both after ty series win and victory in the first test in England.

When Holder was made captain Brathwaite was on the West Indies team and was captain of Barbados. He was overlooked and Holder was seen as the right person to lead west indies back then. I know we want to blame Holder for our poor show in new Zealand but how did we expect west indies to compete against New Zealand when Brathwaite had scored of 0, 20, 10 and 24 and Campbell, Bravo and others except Blackwood failed miserably? In fact since 2018 Brathwaite has been averaging below 20 and in my opinion he has done nothing to cement his pick let alone captaincy

Why west indies always going backwards to everyone else, I always thought that a captain was one who can maintain their place on the team , ama bit puzzle here. This will be a very very short term for Brathwaite.

So if Brathwaite was seen as the future captain why then was he stripped of the vice captaincy for the New Zealand tour and replaced with Chase? I think if it was not for the series win in Bangladesh his pick would have been in question. Now though I liked his leadership in those two test let's not forget in the first test it was not his captaincy that won the test but rather the captain of Sri Lanka that declared the second innings too early, setting wi less than 400 to win. Then it was our new comers Myles, Bonner and De Silver that took us home. It wasn't his leadership. I give him credit for the 2nd test. To me he didn't have a good series with the bat with only one half century

To those who believe he is a better captain than Holder just because he bit the worse test team in the world, let's compare the two: In Holders 37 tests as captain he won 30% of the games and won against one of the best teams in the world. Brathwaite on the other hand captained 7 test matches with a win average of less than the 30% of Holder. How does that make him a better captain. Not only that but in the 7 tests Brathwaite captained his batting average was just about 20 runs and had it not been for the Bangladesh series where he scored a 75 and I believe a 45, his average would have been below 20. How is he a better captain?
