Five years after his fiery speech criticizing Cricket West Indies (CWI) hierarchy and then President, Dave Cameron at the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, Darren Sammy says he would do it all over again if he had to.

As the Windies celebrated the 5th anniversary of their historic victory over India at the 2016 Showpiece in Eden Gardens, Sammy reiterated that he would never apologize to Cameron for his statements, which eventually put an end to his international career.  

 “You seek forgiveness when you have done something wrong. I wouldn’t change anything I said because I spoke the truth as to what went on and yes, I paid the price for it, but that’s the way life goes. My Mom always said if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything,” he said while a guest on Line & Length on SportsMax

Dave Cameron expected Darren Sammy to be a good boy and keep his mouth shut. When Sammy refused and spoke out his career was over.

Sammy paid a price but he ultimately helped West Indies cricket. Sammy's defiance and Cameron's response was a watershed moment for West Indies cricket.

The stakeholders realised the President constantly at war with captains, players, coaches and administrators was not good for West Indies cricket.

Consequently, they decided to end Cameron and his cronies reign of tyranny.

During Nelson Mandella's 1990 visit to America, he was on television answering questions from the public. To his surprise, one of the questions, highly political in nature, was posed by none other that his South African arch-rival, Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Hmm...are they suggesting that's why Beausejour Stadium was renamed Darren Sammy Stadium?

Just in the last CPL Sammy was begging for a t20wc place when it was due to be played last year. His performances never materialized and even the new CWI bosses ignored him.

True, India is the highest populated cricket playing country, and happenings there are certain to be consumed my a lot of people. However, they certainly don't 'reverberate' like what is said/done on the podium during a World-cup Final presentation ceremony, televised live to a world audience. Words from the winning captain no less.

My opinion is that that was a most inopportune time to air grievance(s). The TV hosts were stunned, as I recall.

It’s not too late for Sammy to earn a spot on the World Cup team. The current T 20 captain was not too happy about the way Sammy was treated after the last World Cup. Polly was influential in bringing Gayle back into the team, so who knows what will happen if Sammy has a decent CPL this year

In the last CPL,Sammy played all 12 matches and in 10 innings with 3 not outs he totaled 42 runs off 51 balls for an average of 6.00 and a scoring rate of 82.
In those 12 matches he bowled 3 overs and took 1 wicket for 28 runs an average of 9.33 runs per over.

Sammy is 37 years old.

Stunned that the WICB under Cameron coukd be so unprofessional. This is what one journalist had to say.

It was the culmination if frustrations going back to the axing of Bravo and Pollard( among others) before the 2015 world cup, under the guise of building a team. The WI had been building a team under Bravo for the two years prior to the India tour. And it was paying dividends. A draw with a NZ side that would go on to be world cup finalists just over a year later. And giving India a mighty scare before de big idiot derailed the tour with his stupidity. Of that purging, I remember Martin Crowe saying on the eve of the tournament that he had lost a significant amount of respect for Clive Lloyd for being a participant(probably unwillingly) in that nonsense

Are you saying that the team has enough geriatrics already?

I'm not saying that Sammy merits selection or should be selected, but Pouty has his favorites and his own code of justice. So I would not be surprised if Sammy has a decent CPL and is selected to the WC squad. Recall there was a peace summit meeting in Florida years ago between Dave and numerous West Indies players. Polly said certain things to Dave about the unfair treatment of Sammy during that meeting.
