ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced today that Phil Simmons will be stepping down from his role as Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s team following the team’s exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup being played in Australia. His last assignment will be the upcoming two-Test series against Australia from 30 November to 12 December. Simmons said: “I acknowledge that it’s not just the team that is hurting but the proud nations we represent as well. It’s disappointing and heart-wrenching but we just didn’t turn up. We weren’t good enough and we now have to watch a tournament play out without our involvement. It's unfathomable and for that I deeply apologize to our fans and followers.

Ok I am happy Phil Simmons stepped down and I am extremely delighted with the way he stepped down. He behaved like a gentleman and one who puts Caribbean people first. Now I expect his entire coaching staff to follow his example or get fired and the same with chief selector Hon Desmond Haynes and his entire staff. In the case of Desmond Haynes I believe he would better serve Westindies in an infield position whether as batting coach or a position where he can travel throughout the Caribbean to help develop our young boys from elementary. He definitely doesn’t fit in his current role as chief selector

Hetmyer’s decision to stay put makes him look like a genius. He would not have made a difference in that weak team Haynes and Simmons picked and everyone would have blamed him for the failure. He chose not to be part of the embarrassment we all expected the moment Dessie announced the team. Hetty you had some foresight boy

Are you a Tittie? I see you refer to Simmons as a gentleman for resigning. If you ask me I'll say he was being smart.

It’s wasn’t Simmons fault, it was that of the selectors for selecting a weak team when every other team in the tournament were selecting their strongest team.

Hayne' squad was close to most the fans would select, maybe a 1 or 2 dif. So Haynes stays. Man-management was our major problem.

On what basis? On the basis of the the team he announced. How could you pick a World Cup team on the basis of current form at the expense of experience and proven talent? How do you pick a WC team and leave out Russell, Fabien Allen and Narine? In fact I would even beg Pollard to give us one more even not as captain. Haynes should be the first to resign because Simmons could only coach the team given to him

when was the last time Russell made 5 runs, Russe ll World cup record is dismal at best. Narine is afraid of the international umpires. Allen was on leave from the game when the team was picked.
