ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Cricket West Indies (CWI) Selection Panel today named the Men’s Test squad for the upcoming series in Australia. West Indies will be under the leadership of Kraigg Brathwaite and will face the hosts in two Test matches at the Perth Stadium (30 November to 4 December) and the Adelaide Oval (8 to 12 December).

The Selection Panel named one newcomer in Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the left-handed opening batter and recalled two experienced players in allrounder Roston Chase and middle-order batter Shamarh Brooks.

Lead Selector The Most Hon. Dr Desmond Haynes said: “We have a core group of players who have been part of the Test squad and have performed well. We have played two series this year – against England and Bangladesh – and won both. We have been playing good Test cricket and expect to do well against the Australians on their home turf.”

I welcome Tangerine Chanderpaul but I can’t understand the selection of Devon Thomas and Raymond Riefer. How do you insist on playing a night watchman like Raymond Reifer to bat at number 3, when you have Shi Hope and Darren Bravo in the wilderness? As for Thomas Shi Hope is a better wicket keeper/ batsman and should have been on the team. I just can’t understand the logic behind leaving out two proven test players in Bravo and Hope with a combined 10 test centuries for two players that have no talent or ability to bat on the fast pitches of Australia against probably the best bowling attack in the world. Reifer is no more than a night watchman regardless of time of day he bats

The Hon Sir Desmond Haynes will go down in history as the most dishonorable chief selector in the history of West Indies selectors. Already he had embarrassed us with a team that could not even make it to the World Cup with teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland, Afghanistan and Scotland made it. Remember the day the team was picked I said we wouldn’t get qualified and we sure didn’t! Now with another opportunity to redeem himself he once again picked the worse test team in the history of West Indies cricket and I can see we will be humiliated by an inning defeat in both games.

In reply to Sylobaby Two terrible picks in Reifer and Thomas. They would be better off picking Ridley Jacobs.
