The Independent Voice of West Indies Cricket

Mark Waugh is not wrong... Pathetic Waste Undies are the laughing stock in World cricket!
In reply to Emir
Actually on Radio Commentary last night, Jim Maxwell said if your under-11 team was performing like that, as a coach, you would be very angry
They are being kind
aussies are blunt people they don't sugar coat what they say unfortunately they are not wrong
In reply to Emir
So you are blaming the Aussies for this pathetic bunch of players?
This is very odd.
Just last week on this very website, platitudes were being exclaimed, songs of praise about the teams fight and grit were being sung, a new batting superstar had arrived on the world cricket stage
..and. Now this????
Super confusing
In reply to Emir
OUCH!!!!
Grade teams in Oz would beat most of the FC teams in the Caribbean. Dead set!
West Indies first team is nowhere compare to the Australia team. Our bench strength is even worse
The poor state of cricket is a function of the mediocre and abysmal CWI and not really the players. I've been saying that for some time now.
Each of the disparate territories of the region run cricket in their own selfish way. In some of the islands it more about the administrators than the cricketers.
There are many brilliant young cricketers in the islands who need nurturing and proper development.
Another big issue affect WI cricket is the tribalism between the territories boards. I don't care if it is a Bajan or a Dominican who run cricket administration as long as it brings about holistic development. Instead we defend the crap meted out by our homies and don't hold them to account.
Meanwhile these guys care only to fatten their pockets and fight among each other rather than seriously develop WI cricket.
Here's my solution
Firstly crickets standards and methods vary widely in each country in the region.
Cricket administration in each country ( not just the territorial boards) need attention. I speak here of the Leeward and Windward islands.
It's not enough for CWI to focus on qualifying coaches in each island and even that is problematic as it stands.
The structure of cricket need addressing at the local board levels. Young talented cricketers are either starved of cricket or useless tournaments that will do nothing for development. Case in point the development of these newly sponsored T10 leagues. More can be said.
Barbados is one exception of an attempt at proper cricket development within the local (note I said local) jurisdictions.
CWI needs to hold the island boards to greater account in how cricket is run.
In my little island administors are frustrating young cricketers and killing the game of cricket. Some people go at great lengths to be on the executive of the national cricket association, and then to serve the selfish interests of delegates supporters and NOT CRICKET first and foremost!!!
The local president then in position to become a CWI board member. This comes with with all its benefits. Meanwhile a cross section of cricket community is bemoaning the lack of or poorly structured and administered tournaments and developmental programs. Tournaments suffer from venue issues postponement etc and are NOT completed, etc. When confronted guys complain about office space, equipment and the like.
Each island has its it's own set of issues.
My point is simply that CWI should firstly get its act together and then be in a position to hold island and territorial boards to accountable. This is where the regional government can come in.
Personally, I will not be at odds if say, CWI uses, the manner in which local cricket is administered as one criteria for awarding visiting tours from teams. Here again regional governments now has to ensure that locals associations are run well - indirectly. In my country the government runs the lottery board that funds local cricket.
My point is, action needs to be taken and
there must be accountability. And amid all the cricket and governmental politics the region must be brave enough to take action to restore WI cricket.
More of a daylight match, in the difference between the teams.
Primary, Prep, and High Schools cricket - get that fixed and windies good to go!!

Isnt this who we are? We can take you from hero to zero in less than 60 secs
Let us be real
..This West Indies test side is far out of their depth playing Australia in Australia, I not disappointed with the results, but I am encouraged and surprise by the first test effort. The second test was always going to be difficult given our depleted bowling attack and once Kraigg fails
.forget it. Besides, A number 9 should never beat a number 1. That being said we had a decent year in tests, beating teams at our level
The players must press on from here and continue to work and build their game it is good side that must get better
In reply to hawk
Insularity, lack of proper team selection, lack of proper team preparation and overall team management have all colluded to ruin West Indies cricket. Let this test team play at least two matches against each regional test, then selected a new West Indies team not based on popularity but based on actual on field performances.

The performance was credible
..lost or drawn

And I was one of those who cautiously sang the praises of Tage opening the batting with Brathwaite.
I still hold the opinion that this is the best we have to offer right now at the top since Campbell does not seem to want to advance beyond 30 and 40 scores.
For the other part about fighting spirit and grit, that ability was exhibited in the last test.
This test was a pathetic display of both bowling and batting and I consider that a retrograde step.
This time, the Emperor has no clothes and everyone can see that.
Let's call a spade a spade.
In reply to Emir Gonsalves, Rowley and Mitchell were all for structural reform before Skerritt became president but are now satisfied with the situation.

This wicket was a better batting track than the first test- yet still the batting was poorer on this track. WI at least put up a fight for the first test. The difference was the pink ball and playing at night. WI have not played much night cricket with pinkball and the few games they have played the performances were just as bad if not worse.
lets face the fact that our players are simply not talented enough to compete on the world stage. we can blame CWI and the coaching team for a lot of things but at the end of the day, if you are not good enough, it will tell and it did.
In reply to VoopsandOut
Our WI mentally is too concerned with seeking and identifying talent as oppose to developing talent.
The efforts and emphases need to be heavily focused on the grassroots level as well.
Also when guys don't meet the grade after selections at the various agecfmgriuo level they are "discarded" they find it extremely difficult to get future considerations.
See see Australia debutants in their 30s. In the WI you can forget it by then
