HEADLINE: Brian Lara to assist Cricket West Indies as Performance Mentor
this is good stuff
A step that many has been calling for, in the right direction.
Lara no doubt have advised that many of our players now can use in improving their game.
I think a lot of the issues faced by the players are more on the mental side than the skills side.
It's time you start contributing and earning your keep too ...

So when the players fail Lara will be blamed? I am not too sure that it is a step in the right direction. It is hard for any former cricketer to change the techniques of current test cricketers. In my opinion Brian Lara should be hired to go around the region to help develop and help identify talents like he did when he identified Fedel Edwards from net practice when his potential was not seen by the Barbados selectors who failed to include him on the Barbados team . So a job to go throughout the region, like every island in the Windwards and Leewards, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad. Then based on that he would be able to advise selectors, coaches and wicb . I even believe that he should be given a position to have the final say on team selection ahead Hon Desmond Haynes

Except for your last sentence, I'm with you on this. Let him give Des a list of 30 players who he has seen on his travels and could recommend for intense focus on to see if any better can be achieved. I honestly doubt that but this might be the last throw of the dice, as they say.
Until and unless we strip the current region-wide structure bare and somehow find the money to retool and rebuild we're basically on a fools' errand.
