Andre Russell has thrown Cricket West Indies under the bus in a recent interview claiming his Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders treats him better.

The 35-year-old all-rounder has played for KKR since 2014, when he helped them win the IPL title.

Since that time, Russell, who last played for the West Indies during the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021, has declined several opportunities to represent the regional team often citing health issues relating to long-term knee injuries.

During a recent interview on Star Sports in India, Russell said KKR makes him feel special for everything that Kolkata-based franchise did for him to get treatment done on his knees.

“Where I was, a few years ago, KKR actually make things happen for me where they send me to get proper treatments on my knees,” Russell said.

Buds is correct. Franchised have deeper pockets and fewer people to look after.

Cwi/caribbean govts have to look after the development of millions of people. A franchise is a business entity thant can select 25 already developed players and about the same numbet of support staff. They are in a much better financial position to support one if their 25.

When Russell rushed from franchise to join WI one series and few days before 2019 WC he wasn't fit and injections couldn't help him.
He sat out the WI-Eng series. Went to the WC and knees gave out. On whose dime were the arthritic tissues removed????????

The CWI is not without fault and need of criticism. In fact there a lot left be desired. Much can be said about the square pegs in round holes now and in the past.

I admire Russell's cricket skills but, you are making millions due to the fact that CWI and JCA invested in you at an early age making it possible for you to achieve this much success thus far. Says the guy who hasnt played a West Indies First Class game in 10 years. These guys have one aim re. WI cricket and that is to run to the press to make them look bad to get public sympathy. Russell would say he is unfit for WI and two weeks later he is in a 20/20 tournament.
