PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Caribbean cricket fans have been urged to "rally around the West Indies" despite the Caribbean side being dumped out of the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup in India later this year.

The two-time world champions failed to qualify for the event after missing out on one of the two spots available in the qualifying tournament now taking place in Zimbabwe.

West Indies lost to the host nation and Netherlands in the group stage, before going down to Scotland in their opening game of the Super Six stage, to suffer elimination.

They play Sri Lanka in a game of academic interest on Friday.

Speaking at the end of the annual Caribbean Community (Caricom) summit here on Wednesday night, Dominica's Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit noted the Facebook page of Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley after the West Indies lost to Netherlands, despite scoring 374 runs.

Rowley described the game as the "worst cricket match ever played by a West Indies team," adding "this amateurish demoralising embarrassment has to stop.

Hypocrisy at premier....these very people were up in arms even when West Indies won triple in 2016.... wanted all sort of reforms...Now, they are backing Skerritt - Shallow administration for last four years...failed in T-20...failed in ODI...but hand -in -gloves won't say a single word but asking people to rally.... Skerritt,The Politician, Shallow his junior... Caricom...all birds of same feather...Shame!!!!!

I have said it here before I repeat it. CWI needs a culture change, starting with the President and board of directors. Petty politics, corruption and pure incompetence must end. Then and only then will there be a forward moment.

My advice to West Indian governments is that they should get together and address the exodus of West Indian cricketers who abandon the West Indies to play t20 cricket abroad.The biggest incentive they have at their disposal is a word called "tax". They should get together and tax these players when they play overseas. The players can then recoup this money when they play for the WI. This will encourage them to balance their career by making their t20 millions while at the same time playing for the WI. It's a very simple equation. This is just a simple business strategy. It's called self-interest.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in particular should shut up and say nothing on West Indies cricket because it is regional leaders like himself that systematically being West Indies cricket to where it is today. Although I am not Dominican but I have been spending enough time in this beautiful island to know what leaders like Skerrit has done to cricket in Dominica. Skerrit killed cricket in Dominica with his anti youth policies. His first 18 yrs in office he always picked a woman Sports Minister that doesn’t know the difference between a cricket ball and a soccer ball. A test is to be played on island next week and at no time will you see cricket being played or people practicing. In fact when Skerrit became prime minister the village where Alick Athanaze came from was a main cricket ground on island that hosted regional U19 games. Today it’s an abandoned ground. So Skerrit needs to shut up sorry

Without lack of accountability and an oversight committee, then West Indies cricket will continue down hill and there is nothing any Caribbean government or any entity can do about it, and most importantly, CWI does not have to change anything but continue as they are now with business as usual without any remorse or apology to WI fans. The only power we hold is for each individual Regional team take matters into their hands and apply for ICC Associate membership for T20 and ODI, and leaving Test cricket in the hands of CWI.
