The two semis can go either way!
In reply to camos
I predict Panama to beat USA.
Mexico, who are the favorites, should defeat Jamaica.
In reply to nitro
We will score on Mexico but I am worried about our defense.
A match preview
In reply to XDFIX
Improving but still check your facts. Mexico could not have defeated us in the semis in 2015 and 2017 when Jamaica reached the final on both occasions.
We are now ranked 59.
In reply to nitro
Agree with improving
In reply to camos
That's past my bedtime nowadays. But will try and watch..
Can't see Boyz winning and if goes to penalties.......
In reply to hubert We have better talent than Mexico, but Mexico has more balance.
In reply to camos
Jamaica has the best GK in the competition. He shhould be good for a clean sheet against Mexico. BTW he should have already been playing in Europe!
Mexico's problem is ruthless finishers since Borgetti and Hernandez the Mexicans have struggled to find deadly strikers.
In reply to Larr Pullo
[quote]Was just discussing the same thing with a friend last night, just wondering if there is something in his profile/background thats keeping him out. He is an excellent goalkeeper. He is a former member of the Jamaica Defense Force, I hear. 3 times MVP in MSL
In reply to birdseye
He went to University of Connecticut, never heard of him in JDF!
There was an EU stipulation that countries sending players have to be ranked 50 and above by FIFA .
In reply to camos
I stand corrected sa. Just last night speaking to a friend of mine in St Elizabeth, himself a former baller, told me that Andre Blake is a former JDF member

Panama ticket to final
In reply to nitro
Good first call!
Oh skites Mexico score in minute 2
Whisper must get a run in this match none of these guys up front is as fast and skillful as him!!
This fast pace game being played by Mexico is killing Yard!
In reply to XDFIX
can he play defense?
In reply to camos
He got pace and skill! Players up front and back not doing anything much!
Ask uncle Butler hell tell you Whisper can play any position on the pitch
So we are not having a good day it looks like we have no confidence passing the ball to teammates
Lets see if we can regain confidence in the 2nd half
In reply to HumbleCalf
Its the shock and awe principle employed by Mexico
In reply to XDFIX
Poor coaching
In reply to FanAttick
Come on
In reply to HumbleCalf
He should have subbed off Bobby Reid and brought on Whisper at 60 minutes
My team ratings:
BLAKE (7/10) - cannot be faulted on the goals. I was impressed with his feet usage.
BROWN (4.5/10) - gets careless with his overlapping creating space behind him for the Mexicans to exploit.
LOWE (5/10) - his worse game of the tourney where all his flaws came to the fore.
BERNARD (6/10) - save for that wild tackle, he played a pretty solid game. He's steadily making a case to be the central defender who partners Pinnock.
BELL (5.5/10) - doesn't offer much offensively (his goal against Guatemala notwithstanding) and got beaten on a few occasions tonight.
LATTIBEAUDIERE (6/10) - workmanlike but unspectacular.
LAMBERT (5/10) - didn't offer much tonight on the offensive end. Was tasked with covering the midfield on defense but it was too much of an ask.
BAILEY (5/10) - perhaps too generous a mark. He doesn't bring much to the national team.
REID (5/10) - will never shine in coach Grim's system, but he serves the purpose of coming back from the wing to help on defense.
GREY (7.5/10) - easily our best player on the field. He exudes class with almost every touch.
ANTONIO (5.5/10) - hard to be his best self when there's not a creative midfielder so he is left to make something out of the lobs from the goalkeeper and defenders.
*******************************************************************
LEMBIKISA (5.5/10) - he should be our starting right back. Easily more polished than Brown.
NICHOLSON (5/10) - lots of running around most of it somewhat aimless.
RICHARDS/JOHNSON - no grade- didn't play long enough
*******************************************************************
COACH (3/10) - you wrongly didn't select your most creative midfielder (Ravel Morrison) or even Omari Hutchinson. You state Morrison isn't playing competitively, however, neither were Richards or Mariappa and they were selected!
If your system is designed to omit a creative midfielder your system will be shredded by decent teams as happened tonight. Mexico showed no respect to our midfield on offense or defense.
Coach - you will either have to change your formation or get players who can play it which would mean finding at least 5 new players.
Hold your heads high Yard you have done well and we expect you to go one better,WC 2026,this was always going to be a difficult task but I feel better to come.
In reply to JoeGrine
Just woke up. Did not watch at all...I have not seen much in this Jamaica team
that most on here are touting..
Happy that I did not see the game as I expected Mexico to unleash on them as
while there is some talent, they are not a cohesive team with too many misfit
pieces. Only Gray has really impressed me as an International player long with Blake.
Messi, without the 'i" is more hype than substance also.
Hope he coach invests in 'Whisper' going forward but I don't think the coach knows
the players so I will give him some slack for now.
The midfield is a major problem. Hopefully the players coming in September can fix this.
In reply to nitro
I agree. Our midfield was missing in action
always worried about the defenders, they are bad!
They know nothing about closing down space and angles, Mexicans had all the room and time they needed.
In reply to hubert That was a really disappointing performance from Jamaica. I have no idea what their game plan was. Maybe being a Man City fan has spoilt me. it was difficult to figure what Jamaica game plan was. The Mexicans pressed like hell and the Jamaicans facilitated them by keeping the ball concentrated on one side they did not spread the field and keep spacing, to make the opposition run from side to side. To get very good at anything, you got to practice, and practice, and practice. Jamaica didnt look like a team that had practiced theme, if they had one it was not a good one.
What was the final score?
Bottom line - Mexico came out with the speed of Bolt and JA never recovered.
Agree re the midfield problem.
Mexico and Panama both deserve to be in the final.
In reply to Larr Pullo
0-3

I think you are being a bit harsh on the defenders. When your midfield is being shredded/overrun because the Mexicans exploit your lack of creativity there, your defenders will always be under pressure. If we had a player in the middle who could turn the game with defense splitting pass the Mexicans would have been a bit more cautious in attack fearing a counter. Who was going to provide such a pass, Lambert (overmatched at this level and more known for his defense), Lattibudaire (a solid defensive midfielder), Bailey (the less said the better)?
In reply to JoeGrine
Bailey was not as bad as youre making him out to be..nor was Gray as good last night as you would have us believe
Gray was however our best player throughout the tournament
Blake 6.0
Brown 6.6
Lowe 6.3
Bernard 6.3
Bell 6.7
De Cordova Reid 6.4
Latibeaudiere 6.8
Lambert 6.9
Bailey 6.6
Gray 6.8
Antonio 6.8
Those ratings take into account metrics like possession, aerial duels, ground duels, passing accuracy, key passes, dribble completion rates etc
None of our players had a terrible game but by the same token none had a great game either
Most of the Mexican players were rated low to mid 7s
In reply to FanAttick
So in other words Mexico was simply brilliant.
In reply to FanAttick
Man I refused to watch after half-time not seeing Whisper brought on!!
Yardies were stunned with the shock and awe principle!!
You saw a bit of that from the Guatemalans - the difference with the Mexicans they up the tempo and didnt allow the Boyz to settle!
Very disappointing result
This was Mexicos 2nd team and RBZ were at full strength
I truly expected RBZ to comfortably win this tournament given their player pool versus those of the other teams in the tournament.
In reply to imusic
Reggae Boyz like the West Indies do not interpret todays game within the context of the art of war!!
In reply to JoeGrine
I agree with your rating!!
In reply to FanAttick
I am a bit non-lazy so I choose to do my own eye test. The two Jamaicans who showed class last night were Gray and Blake. Bailey added nothing to the game.
In reply to Chrissy
Not sure about a deserving Panama! If Yard did their home work theyd be more deserving! After the Guatemalan match the coach said the Reggae Boyz game display was not good enough to beat Mexico on hindsight he was correct!
Remember now that was Mexicos B team!
In reply to JoeGrine
I say Amen to that!
coach made tactical error, Bailey does not know how to play off a guy like Antonio, he is also very inefficient as a finisher, his strength is playing wide with lots of room to run. Mexico was able to isolate Antonio and kill our approach.
In reply to JoeGrine
You obviously have cataract in one eye and glaucoma in the other like the late Uncle Prim from Norbrook
I don't know what game you were watching but it surely isn't the one I and millions of others (who know football) watched
The team didnt play well
We didnt have a functioning midfield there was no service to our forward players..The defenders were playing side to side which just made us a sitting duck for the Mexican press Bailey was the only one of the front 4 that I saw passing the ball to his mates up front - Antonio and Gray were guilty of trying the impossible when they had a clear pass to a teammate who was wide open. Bailey created the best chance the Boyz had of scoring when he dribbled past 3 Mexicans and whipped a pass across the face of goal but his teammates were caught napping .
None of our players had a great game the overall team lacked cohesion. the coaching was inept he brought on Nicholson for Lambert (who was on a yellow card). I have no problem with this but he should have subbed Bobby Reid and brought on Whisper at the same time..
Russell and Lembikisa were two of ours best players when we played Mexico in the Azteca but none were in the starting lineup
In reply to FanAttick
Are you saying JoeGrine is Katarack the sound man?
In reply to nitro
I wouldnt be surprised
After conceding the early goal, JA seem discombobulate and lose focus... started making long passes, which isn't their game... Coach has work on dem metal stamina.
In reply to JoeGrine
Exhibit 1: Baileys Key Pass
Exhibit 2: Grays Hail Mary strike
Exhibit 3: Antonios selfish strike when a team mate was wide open. Look at where Nicholson was standing.
In reply to FanAttick

I said all of that already, so who needs an eye check?
Antonio and Gray were guilty of trying the impossible when they had a clear pass to a teammate who was wide open.
Are you saying they developed "baileymylitist"?
I alluded to that earlier, reading and comprehending (especially when you are critiquing) are essentials.
took you three pages to finally get to say that. You need to sharpen up on your fandom.
In reply to JoeGrine
You wrote a whole meaningless diatribe on player ratings that you pulled out of your ass
In three bullets above I presented video evidence that your assessment was rubbish
Who should I believe - you(blind Bartemaus), or a soccer rating website that millions around the world rely on as the gospel of soccer statistics?

One of the better games from Mexico lately. They outran the sprint factory boyz. Mexicans kept their shape throughout the game their passing and movement on and off the ball was a joy. They were sharp.
The plucky Boyz were second best to most balls. They couldn't live with the silky skills and pace of Montezuma's clan. The second goal was out of the top drawer. Unstoppable, the goal of the Gold Cup thus far.
In reply to Castled
Agreed

lol
Why are you even responding to imusic? You don't see that he's throwing shade?
All that 2nd string, and B team is just chat. Never once heard France call their WC team a B team despite missing a handful for starters. Your team is your team, and no one with half a brain thought Jamaica would win the whole tournament comfortably. lol

I was really hoping the boyz would have at least made it to the finals! I didnt have much confidence after the Guatemalan match knowing that the Mexicans play is similar!!

The RBZ coach can only use the 4-4-2 system? I think 4-3-3 suits the team he has.
In reply to nitro
Seemingly so and he does not have the pieces for that formation.
I think 3-5-2 suits us best (this can easily convert to a 5-3-2 on defense) or the 4-3-3 you mentioned. Given our personnel, the AM is the most crucial position, yet it is the one he did not take to the Gold Cup. Antonio cannot live by long clearances from the GK and defenders. You need creativity to move the ball down the field on the grass instead of "outta mi life" kicks. Enter Ravel Morrison (or Omari Hutchinson).
