Former India opening batsman Aakash Chopra has called for West Indies to be stripped of their Test-playing status. He believes that the team has been doing nothing in international cricket for a few years now and that they should be replaced by associate member teams from individual islands.

“They won’t be playing in the World Cup. In all three formats, they are lagging behind in the rankings. Eventually, there has to be a threshold,” Chopra argued during a question and answer session with Sportsekeeda.

“I have been talking about that tier system - promotion and relegation. Just because they are an erstwhile champion side, till when can you carry on with them as a Test-playing nation? The team, as such, is doing nothing.”

Chopra says that West Indies' lack of unity and coordination has been a major factor in their downfall, and that many top players prefer franchise cricket over representing West Indies.

So instead of blaming CWI for our predicament, you blame the victims of CWI mismanagement and lack of vision, which have led to the demise of WI cricket? Whatever or however CWI is paying you, I must say you are worth every penny for your propaganda and distracting fans from the realities of WI cricket.

Some people here (99.4%) cannot handle the truth. This Indian ex-player is repeating what allyuh has been saying for years, "go it alone."

While we are basking in the glow of former years, all minnows have long bypassed us and many are thinking the same about WI cricket that we should no longer be considered as test cricket nation. It’s no point been angry about the statement, it’s our reality. However, how does WI response to these statements? What CWI reaction or infrastructure to prevent further decline or to improve WI situation? Let’s all look for solutions and not a pity party for that will not help to turnaround WI cricket, that’s why I have been advocating for frequent tours for our A team and B team, we cannot stay with the big boys if we do not play with the big boys.
