Pampered Prima Donnas in World Cup Surrender

CricSham 2023-11-26 01:33:56

How else could one explain this helpless, hapless, hopeless performance from the best team in the tournament? And let’s be fair, they were the best by a country mile. But these prima donnas are also spoiled, catered to, made excuses for, and given every privilege. Not only by the BCCI, but by almost every sportswriter, commentator, and expert looking to get on board the gravy train.
Hopefully by now you realized that the Indian cricket team is sports equivalent of today’s namby-pamby generation.

Its called pressure when you need to perform. The Indian batsmen were over cautious, hence the small total to defend.

Spot on. At 81 for 3 there was no need to shut up shop. One of the two had to take on the bowlers. Instead, they just knock it around for 18 overs.

That article was brutal, but so true of the younger generations.

Thanks Casper and yes, brutal but true. Believe me that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Here’s another beauty. Student Johnny is being an ass in the back of the room but the teacher cannot say Johnny, be quiet and get on with your work. She will be hauled up for singling him out. Instead she has to say, class lets get back to work. This is the touchy-feely culture that turns them into such misfits unable to cope with any stress.

They bludgeoned everyone else to death in cricketing terms

Just had a bad day on Sunday that’s all….

Of course the pampering and self praise, the prohibition of players to joining other leagues, that all drip into the culture but to say they lost a final because of it…nah

Let’s just be content to celebrate the loss wink

I am in the South and its the same. My company hires new staff out of college and they come with this culture of entitlement. The words hard work and sacrifice does not exist for them. When we do training we ask ourselves are these really college graduates? When we were in high school mid 80s we had more going for us than these colleges grads. Dumb as a rock but the colleges made up for it with self-esteem. They think they are are best. rolleyes

TIndians set up themselves with the manipulation of the wicket. Oh that is sweet when their own fixing came back to bite them in the a$$. That was payment in full.

Carl it’s called karma some thing they ought to know about. Though I think the pitch switch had less to do with it, and more with the air pomposity.

There is a math exam that’s given each year to high schoolers across several of the leading industrial countries in the world, including China, Singapore, India. Of course, the United States comes in dead last each year. At the end of the exam there’s a short questionnaire asking students how they see themselves as a math student. By overwhelming majority, American students checked the box that they were outstanding math students. The Asian and European students thought they were at best good Math studentsbig grin.

I am not sure the Indians were as you described, it may have been just a bad day at the office, or simply outplayed by Aussies. They played unbeaten to get to the final, was it taken for granted that they would win the final also? The opposition had no chance? Remember this is cricket we talking about, all the planning and coaching can be done off the field, but its on the field that the game is played. I feel if anything they were guilty of underestimating their opponents, and figured with their 12 men, the game was already won. Might be also the coaching was slack.Nevertheless I thought they had a brilliant tournament albeit at home, but everyone has that chance as well.
On the other hand, mr cricsham, it might be that yr article is really directed towards the Windies and their players and staff for not being at the World Cup cool

Spot on about CricInfo: Like FOX "news" they know exactly what they are doing, but they are only after readership and that mean those under 21 in India.

For example, they are routinely using words like "miracle" to describe a good know from a batsman.

Only yesterday, they exaggerated on that T20 with Aus, you would swear the game a report on a test match. They called the innings by Maxwell another "miracle." Ignoring these types of innings and 20 to 30 runs in an over happens routinely in T20's.

Fox, CNN, in a word all networks guilty of bias. Who pays the piper calls the tune. About the cricket the Australians won the cup because they play as a team.

You make some valid points and would be applicable if it was a one off situation. They have been falling at the final hurdle repeatedly for the last five years. This bunch choke under pressure.
About the West Indies, my friend I haven’t thought about West Indies cricket for a long time.

Now it is reported Virat is taking a break from ODI's and T20's for an indeterminate period. The WC loss has become a very bitter pill to swallow for members of Team India. Understandable when you give it your best shot. Against any other team, they would have been champions. Versus Australia, it was always whose mental strength would win out. Alas! Mind you India had Australia 42/3 or thereabouts....Most people in sports say you fight to the end. Australians say you fight to the death. That right there is the difference.

I’m not sure about them winning against any other team. The semi finals against New Zealand is a case in point, and when you throw in the pitch switch…ahem.
