Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the West Indies Men’s squad selected for the upcoming T20 International (T20I) series against South Africa, scheduled to take place from 23 – 27 August 2024 in Trinidad. 

The selected squad for the T20I series is as follows: Rovman Powell (c), Roston Chase (vc), Alick Athanaze, Fabian Allen, Johnson Charles, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd 

Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket stated “Andre Russell, requested a period of rest and recovery as well as Jason Holder who played five back-to-back Tests against England and South Africa. Moreover, we made the determination to continue Alzarri Joseph on his period of rest. In addition, Brandon King remains in rehabilitation from an injury sustained during the World Cup. During this period, they all will work closely with the CWI science and medicine team.”

They should have rested Shamer Joseph also, aren't they concerned about the cramp issues he had in England and the just completed South African series

I don’t know what movie selectors watch before they pick a team but seems like they don’t have a clear policy as to who to pick, who to rest and when to rest. Going back to the 3rd test against England, I felt since the series was already lost, we had no chance of winning the 3rd test and Alzari Joseph looked very tired, I called for them to rest him. But they chose to play him. Again I felt they should also rest him for the first test against SA and bring him back for the decisive test but they left him out. Hope they realized that he would have been a handful in Guyana.
Since it is important to win the T20 games to ensure automatic qualification for next T20 WC both Alzari and Holder should play and Shamar Joseph and Arthanaze should be rested.
