45 known dead - 15 known missing - many more assumed missing
for JA or the entire Caribbean?

@birdseye

JA

FunnyMan Nov 11, 2025, 6:40:18 PM

@pooranian

Yeah... respectfully, there should be a dedicated thread for ALL the news related to the Hurricane (if this is one of them). Just seems like too many threads...

sgtdjones Nov 11, 2025, 7:00:24 PM

@FunnyMan

Yes, I agree.

When one's life is boring ...she needs something to feel accomplished

4 typhoons hit the Philippines per year. Aren't you glad she is not from there?

JahJah Nov 12, 2025, 4:49:07 AM

@sgtdjones

Wait, aren't you the one who used to open a ton of TnT threads about murder and mayhem? Was your life boring for doing that, or did you have an agenda?

Are we supposed to be glad you aren't from Jamaica, given what goes on there?

Are you really upset about her reporting on the after effects of a hurricane that ravaged the country in which she lives?

Chrissy Nov 12, 2025, 5:51:40 AM

@JahJah

you have time to respond to dat dribble😀

VIX Nov 12, 2025, 6:35:00 AM

@Chrissy

that copy-pasting low-value imbecile is desperate for attention.

i'm surprised his bosom buddy zsa zsa gone against!

StumpCam Nov 12, 2025, 8:32:25 AM

@JahJah

So says the man who posts non stop and replies to himself!😜

sgtdjones Nov 12, 2025, 9:23:13 AM

@FunnyMan

they come to attack!!!!

Zsa Zsa...have one thread and report.

Yes, though not every day, I did write about crimes and murders in T&T.

Occasionally I investigated the PM's and the responsible minister's foolish reactions.

Responding to the others is to reach their level, and I steer clear of such...

Halliwell Nov 12, 2025, 9:26:10 AM

@sgtdjones

it is actual dead and suffering Caribbean brothers and sisters!!!

this isn’t

  1. Narps, snow in Canada in December bhai!
  2. Googs, sun in July in Canada pardnah
  3. Anybody, look breeze just blow in Canada and I see a cloud

and all three on separate threads, mind…

sgtdjones Nov 12, 2025, 9:45:21 AM

@Halliwell

I am glad you follow my threads ...🙄

Why not display the reports of the hurricane's effects in a single thread?

Wouldn't that work better? The citizens need help.

Those who are reading this would be encouraged to donate or help in any way they can.

When you read so many threads every day, the outcome is lost.

My personal opinion.

Brerzerk Nov 12, 2025, 12:07:41 PM

@sgtdjones

What is the need to turn a thread informing of deaths from a ravishingly, deadly natural disaster into nasty personal attack? How low, what need are you satisfying by that?

VIX Nov 12, 2025, 12:26:18 PM

@Brerzerk

Breds, there was a reason that Arawak called stupidjones the ultimate low-value poster.

Anyone with a shred of self respect woulda left the board after that insult.

Yet the imbecile continues with his copy-pasted nonsense that only he responds to.

Trex Nov 12, 2025, 12:46:07 PM

@sgtdjones

so many persons lost their lives in a Caribbean country due to the storm of the century....and you only focus on personally attacking a poster.

You must be a real Jan crow.

The entire county of Cornwall and almost half of Middlesex has been totally devastated. Sea side towns in St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland simply do not exist.

Many persons are still missing and decomposed bodies are being found in rivers. This is a serious disaster we dealing with in Jamaica.

Larr Pullo Nov 12, 2025, 1:14:09 PM

@Trex

Yeah and not enough news out here in the US due to our so called administration....

Hope that Jamaica makes a full recovery. The loss of life is sad.

The usual posse shows up....

It's incredible how many people thought poorly of my response.

My goal was to use a single thread, hoping to illustrate the needs of the Jamaican people.

Sending copies of such a thread to the diaspora could result in responses to Jamaicans' needs.

In North America, not much attention is paid to the hurricane and its devastation; my family has personally donated.

She was the object of my insult and has been repeatedly called out as the most racist person on this board.

When I called out a T&T administration that had allowed over 5,000 mostly African youths, including children murdered in their homes, she said that I detested him because he was African. Responding to my comment showed her weakness.

But carry on.

Brerzerk Nov 12, 2025, 11:13:50 PM

@sgtdjones

@sgtdjones

When in a hole stop digging.

a. A thread reporting tragic deaths is no.ppace nor opportunity to hurl unrelated "insults."

b.That it isn't covered in The US is untrue.All major charities, US-JA organizations and Alumni are actively donating, shipping and volunteering.

c. Keep your race-baited thoughts to yourself.

d. Quit before falling further behind.

e. Silence/not posting can be golden

hubert Nov 13, 2025, 9:06:06 AM

@Larr Pullo

Larr, it is much worse than most people know. It is the greatest disaster Jamaica has had .There was no refuge for man or animals ,birds and bees have been decimated. Bees are important and crucial for

agriculture and the bread basket Parish of St. Elizabeth has suffered the most.

Recovery will take years to regain normality and when the added destruction of buildings,infrastructure

is added as homelessness will be major problem.

The aftermath is already being highlighted as a major task that even developed and advanced countries

will find hard to address.

My concern is that health issues will become a major problem. when one reads of over a million animals

being lost and certain to pollute streams rivers and water sources including the all important underground

water bed,aquifer which is the source of not only plant growth but domestic water.

I have become so numb to the realities that I hardly post on the event anymore as one's mental health could be affected negatively,much less those who are going though the traumatic experience.

To top it all, the present administration does not appear to be quite up to the task in crucial areas with better mobilisation of resources to meet the challenges.

One must hope that another storm of even lesser force will not impact the Island in the next year or two

as it won't take much to derail what recovery that is being effected..

I said at the outset when this Melissa was tarrying slowly to the Island that Jamaica will never be the same

again. Unfortunately at this juncture I am being proven right.

The worse has not been been reached or avoided ,yet.

I mourn for the Land of my Birth.

bro some communities could not be reached - sea water, river water, downed trees, destroyed homes and businesses, sand, silt, rocks.

Effective management, strategic alliances, and proper coordination can help the country recover fully within two years.

The Chinese work ethic tells me we can!

The day after the hurricane there was a couple of US storm chasers who travelled from Kingston to Santa Cruz, filming and sending videos back to the US. I guess they were using satellite phones. I couldn’t understand where so much mud came from in Santa Cruz. I was surprised Spur-three was passable then. A friend explain that the water travelled on the road down the hill

I read somewhere that Jamaica had purchase an insurance policy worth over US$500M in preparation of such a disaster.

Is there any confirmation of that???

sgtdjones Nov 15, 2025, 9:04:34 AM

How Jamaica took out an insurance policy

$150M US ‘catastrophe bond’ issued last year headed to full payout, will provide Jamaica immediate help.Funds could get to Jamaica in a matter of days. The country also has multiple eggs in its disaster risk basket — including insurance policies to cover extreme rainfall and tropical storms through a regional pool that provides disaster insurance to Caribbean countries. Additionally, it can draw on lines of credit with the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.

"Jamaica's strategy is, in my perspective, one of the most comprehensive of any country globally at the minute," said Conor Meenan, a risk financing adviser at the U.K.-based Centre for Disaster Protection. Jamaica’s $150-million US catastrophe bond was issued in 2024 with the help of the World Bank. The country funded the bond itself, while investors, mostly investment firms in North America and Europe, bought it. The bond matures in 2027, covering four hurricane seasons.

In total, Jamaica's Finance Ministry says it has about $820 million US available in financing to draw from in the days and weeks right after a disaster. That won’t cover all of the likely billions of dollars in damages needed, but the insurance-related financing will flow to Jamaica much faster and help quickly restore the most essential services like roads, health care and telecommunications.

sadness is everywhere

nitro Nov 17, 2025, 4:42:50 PM

@Chrissy

They are correct. Pictures and videos do not show the magnitude of devastation. On the ground, looking into the eyes of the people tell you another story. Yesterday I saw 3 men fighting over a case of water at one of the areas providing support. One of them pulled a shovel and I thought the worst was about to happen. Luckily two men held him back.

The people are desperate. Yet giving thanks to organizations like World Central Kitchen the people are getting meals daily. The concern is how sustainable this is. Luckily other companies are coming on board to provide building materials. We are now trying to get financial support to assist fishers & farmers with fish trap wires and farming input. This is the only way to get back folks to earning a living and create a sustainable recovery effort.

I am a Jamaican so obviously I feel sorry for the good people who have lost there houses and some there livelihood also.

But in reality this devastation is long overdue for today's Jamaica.

The vast majority of the black people on the island full of too much badmind and jealousy for dem one another. When they are not shooting each other, they are working obeah on each other. Yet Jamaica has more churches than some first world countries. But even in the church dem still ah wok obeah. God has truly spoken to the people. The next hurricane there might be not one survivor. But I feel it for the few good people and the children of course.

So because of "badmind and oheah" your god destroyed half of the island. Mmmm I wonder how many of the dead were badminded and into obeah. Of course, I know after your thorough research into Jamaica obeah and badmindness practices and insight into God's vengance you came up with this bullshite. It seems an hurricane that mere humans could forcast hitting Jamaica a week before it did by explaining athmospheric and climatic conditions is definately an act of god

Anyways, me personally, JA is like a third home to me... been going back since 2007 and made many a trips there since (at least 8-10)... I've chosen to spend my vacation money there.. but who knows what percentage of it goes to the government and if/how they use it wisely.

On the hurricane note... so far, 11 of my friends & I are supporting.. we made our donation last night, as a matter of fact, to a trustworthy charity. I just hope that the folks on the ground get more than 90% of the funds.... 🙏
