It seems to me that the important consequence of the St. Vincent elections is that Dr. Shallow has to resign from his position as President of Cricket West Indies.It is a straight forward rule.

didnt Julian Hunte continue to serve as WICB President while holding elected office?
@FanAttick
No.
Hunte was not in Government or opposition when he was at the helm of the then named WICB. A matter of fact he lost an election in 2006 before taking the Presidency in 2007.
@FanAttick
I will respond to your question when Shallow resigns
@voiceofreason
You are correct.
Hunte was St Lucia, UN Ambassador, when he was asked to contest, the Gros-islet, seat, in 2006, he lost. he has been a private, citizen since.
In 2011, Hilliare, Became, St.Lucia’s Emassador, to the Uk.
from june,2021, until now, he has been ,the deputy PM of St. Lucia.
@Dukes
Agree
@Chrissy
The tragedy is that journalists in the Caribbean have not been writing about this and nobody seems to care.It is mind boggling the level of apathy and neglect that occurs in our countries.

More POWER to Shallow

You say this in 2025 when The North American so called Leader of the Free World daily dispels any every law of Governance and decorum and decency? With ZERO consequences as a convicted felon to boot?
@powen001

The Journalists in the USA have been attempting to hold Trump accountable for his actions but the reality is that apart from highlighting his nastiness, there is not much they can do.
The Journalists in the Caribbean can not even be bothered to ask Shallow any questions.Now if you feel that because Trump seems to be getting away with all sorts of malfeasance, then it is OK for Caribbean Journalists to abandon their duty to their profession then I must say I am disappointed in that approach.
Millions of Americans have been out in the streets protesting Trump's actions and words.Right now Journalists are bending everyone's ears about Trump continuously.
what was said During Desmond Haynes tenure?,was political affiliation, different then?
@Dukes
@Dukes
Reds Pereira has raised it.
@Edrich
When was Haynes a member of parliament and when was he cwi president?
@FuzzyWuzzy
Thanks for the Info.
Good on Reds..
@Edrich
It is blasphemy to compare Haynes a genuine world great with minor leaguers Bascombe, Shallow and Sammy
@FuzzyWuzzy
elective politics.
@Edrich
@Edrich
It is HOLDING ELECTIVE POLITICAL OFFICE while being an executive of an ICC member organization.
Running and losing=NO BIG THING
@Dukes
Where is the conflict of interest with Shallow holding both positions being President of CWI and being as member of Parliament.
@tc1
Not sure, but isn't that a "government official" running the CWI?
@Dukes
There is no conflict. The President of CWI is not a executive position and it is not a salaried position. The President is responsible for chairing board meetings not for the daily running of the organization.
I see no need for him to resign unless he believes he personally does not have the capacity and time for the position.
@natty_forever
Nothing in the ICC Charters prevent elected officials from being directors at the ICC. There are numerous examples of MP and Minister who have been President of their Cricket Associations and serve at the ICC.
Mohsin Naqvi the current PCB Chairman is the Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control in Pakistan.
My question would be WHY would Shallow still want the work?
@natty_forever
I am in agreement with Joshua and incline to say that there is no conflict of interest with Shallow continuing as President while being in government.
I am of the opinion that performing in both capacities will be difficult and therefore should resign from One of the positions.
@tc1
If he stays a backbencher MP I see no issue. However if he becomes a minister I.e part of the executive cabinet then he'd have to give up the cwi presidency
@Joshua
If Shallow is appointed Minister of Sports for example will he now not be able to see that SVG/Windwards gets more games or more financing. Does Caricom not have a cricket committee can he not influence Dr. Friday to push CWI's agenda?
@voiceofreason
If Shallow is appointed Minister of Sports for example will he now not be able to see that SVG/Windwards gets more games or more financing.
CWI has a process for assignment of games, him as one person on the board cannot solely determine that.
Does Caricom not have a cricket committee can he not influence Dr. Friday to push CWI's agenda?
Caricom Cricket Committee is useless and powerless to do anything regarding CWI.
@FuzzyWuzzy
If he stays a backbencher MP I see no issue. However if he becomes a minister I.e part of the executive cabinet then he'd have to give up the cwi presidency
Why? CWI President is not a executive position, it is a chairman of the board. The only conflict is whether personally he has the time to serve.
@Joshua
Thank you.
No idea why there was an insinuation that there was a conflict or against the rules.
@Joshua
@tc1
I never said that, that's the ICC.
@natty_forever
Kool
@Dukes
This old wrinkled resin, should go to rest,he and others,have been creating havoc, mischief, and confusion in the governance of WI cricket, for too long. Allow the younger generation, with management skills, the room to manoeuvre .
@FuzzyWuzzy
You shut down that guy immediately.he had to be the shallow one uncle.
I would suggest that all those who feel motivated enough to post on this thread make the simple sacrifice to read Kishore Shallow's wikipedia profile and then ask yourself if such a person would enter politics in his country, win his seat with his party winning 14 out of 15 seats and remain a backbencher.Think also of the practical implications of him continuing to be CWI President.Have any of you had a close friend who is a Member of Parliament in this region and think that person could simultaneously run Cricket West Indies.
@Joshua
CWI has a process for assignment of games, him as one person on the board cannot solely determine that.
Is he not in a position to influence that process? He the President of a board that has the power to determine policy and where games are assigned.
I understand he is not an Executive, but he is in charge of policy making that the Executive has to implement.
It's the optics that we have to be concerned about.
@Dukes
Yes I have
Based on quite possible conflicts of interest, Shallow should resign from the West Indies Cricket Board.
Go an concentrate on your country's issues. Allow others to step up and concentrate their full focus on developing West Indies Cricket.
@Trex
It is possible that Dr. Shallow maybe a member of other boards of private entities should he resign from those as well as he is unable to invest sufficient time at the scheduled meetings of those boards?
A conflict of interest in this instance would arise if and where Shallow’s role as an MP or Cabinet Minister can potentially influence decisions he makes as CWI president or vice versa to the benefit of himself or others close or related to him
it is a matter of how the two roles intersect or commingle that can give rise to a possible COI
can someone pls delineate how these two roles can create a COI
does any document at CWI spell out its definition of a COI and how so to treat?
@sudden
does any document at CWI spell out its definition of a COI and how so to treat?
In view of the fact that CWI have repeatedly demonstrated their complete lack of sophistication I would be astonished if they had such a document!!!!
Remember the Prime Minister of Jamaica does not see a COI when he as Prime Minister has his wife as Speaker of the House of Parliament.
@Dukes
It has been my view that the speaker of the house in our system should not be chosen from among MPs
and in so far as it is possible to detect not a member of the parties which has representatives in parliament
The President of the West Indies Cricket Board should not also be the member of the Legislative of a sovereign nation which provides players for the West Indies team. The individual who has the powers of Leader of the West Indies Cricket Board should not be so influenced by the voters of a Country.
The mere fact that posters of this MB don't have a problem with Shallow having so much power and conflicts of interest shows that the same protesters would eagerly accept a Busha or Backra as their leader. Then again I am reminded that the same posters don't have the problem that the current Head Coach amd Sole Selector does not have the basic qualifications to be the coach of the West Indies.
@Dukes
Do elaborate on that Jamaica analogy.
@Dukes
you started this thread by declaring that “it is a straightforward rule”.
Not whether it’s a matter of his capacity to handle both roles simultaneously.
Have you backed off the “straightforward rule” stance?
@Da-Vincy
Yes I have somewhat backed off from the term straightforward since the WI is unique in the fact that we are several independent countries.However the principle is the same and it would be an academic argument to say we are different.
Congrats Dr. Shallow Minister of Tourism and Maritime Affairs.
@Joshua
Josh, since the central theme of the discussion is the probable CoI the Ho. Minister may find himself in as CWI President, WI now have to look at where the big ticket games are staged when touring teams come a calling? 🤔
People with integrity hold themselves to higher standards than laws that establish minimum standards, don't tell me the chairman does not have unequal influence on the board.
@Joshua
The President of CWI is not a executive position and it is not a salaried position
Not getting a salary does not mean ,you are not paid!
@camos
did not suggest that like all board positions there is likely a retainer.
However the point still stands the CWI President job is not a full time position, it is the Chairman of a Board.
They said the chairman cost CWI more than UW$350000 / year
