Yellow Advisory - Blowing Snow

Description
Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected beginning Friday afternoon.
What:
Significantly reduced visibility in blowing snow.Strong wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h possible.Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm.
When:
Beginning Friday afternoon and continuing Friday night and possibly into Saturday morning.
Additional Information:
A low pressure system will push into the region on Friday which will bring snow across the areas with 5 to 10 cm possible by Friday evening. Strong northwesterly winds will develop behind the low which will lead to widespread blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility. Visibility may even be near zero for wind-prone and exposed areas.
Very cold wind chills are also expected to develop Friday night into Saturday morning.
Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

Description
A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.
What:
Wind chills near minus 30.
When:
Tonight into Saturday morning. Wind chills near minus 30 may return Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Description
A period of very cold wind chills is expected.
What:
Wind chills of minus 30 to minus 35.
Recommended Action
Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Check on older family, friends and neighbours.
Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.
If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Watch for colour changes on fingers and toes, pain, numbness, a tingling sensation, or swelling. If present, move indoors and begin warming.Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.
