When Bennett King takes up the post as West Indies head coach in mid-November, he will have a familiar face as his full-time assistant: Australian academy senior coach David Moore. Moore, who was in charge of using technology to provide specialist feedback to players at Australia's Centre of Excellence, will be King's deputy on the West Indies team under a new team structure that gives sweeping powers to the head coach. HEADLINE: Bennett King Picks Aussie Assistant
I suppose that we've finally got what we wanted??///////??????????

well one thing is for sure King aint no fool ... David might very well be the man for the job :D and not king
The foreigner vs, West Indian discussion aside, The head coach SHOULD be allowed to hire his own technical staff. Good forward thinking by the WICB. Thus, we can now truly hold the coach accountable.
This doesn't sit well with me.
Logic move by Mr. King, a smart man, thats why we hired him. He needs someone to help him implement his own strategies so he will be fully effective. Simoes brought his own technical staff too, wouldn`t mind if he bring back Dennis Waite or anoher physio who won`t overwork our quickies in training and pop off their backs. WICB could still get an understudy to learn from King`s methods. King is the best OZ has to offer and a very great investment. W.I. cricket and the youngsters can only benefit in a positive way.
You people are crazy. later this evening a good friend of mine is going to post something that should shed some light on how the WICB is thinking re King's appointment. Lay off and in two years time start up again. for now watch the plan. you have been asking for change.
So you all see why WI messed up the last time they tried to hire King. They gave the freaken man an assistant in the form of Logie without his input. Would I have taken a job under such conditions, especially when they screwed up the announcement. A resounding no. And this crap about appointing an understudy so that he could take over is just that. Crap. That arrangement would never have worked cuz the understudy have to contribute something to the entire process and that is hardly likely if you are to be learning on the job. The man have his system. He needs a certain set of core competencies in an individual to be his assistant. Hence thats why he went with Moore or whoever his name is. Notice also based on his qualifications we are getting what amounted to a a phsycologist on this team. This can only be good, I think.
In reply to Caribbe: Caribbe, let your friend do an article for the front page man. No use letting such vital info get lost among a thread. The Skipper will gladly give the space on the front page once its done correct. If the Skipper can give Larr and Twissy a front page spread I see no reason why he would not allow you to give us a snapshot of whats ahead on this historic day in WI cricket.
I have to agree with those of you who are saying that King is no fool. Suddenly the old dinosaur, known as the Wicb -the most conservative institution in the Caribbean - is being forced to accede to 21st century management style. You want me? then, I will pick my own staff. The result is sobers and the assistant coach. As I said in an earlier post, I believe that Sobers' appointment was a King appointment. King's appointment is undoubtedly the third most significant development in Windies cricket generated by the board in my lifetime. The first was the appointment of Worrell as cappo in 1960, the second was the creation of the shell shield tournament in 65/66. These were ,and is, all radical changes by this privileged old boys club. Should King and his staff fail, the fallout might well destroy the present structure and practices of the Wicb. If he succeeds, the immediate and long term effect might well be comparable to Worrell's appointment and the institution of the shell shield. My persistent question; Why our board consistently tied the hands of our home bred coaches?
I wonder if King will sack the dwarf??
I wonder if King will sack the dwarf?? Got to say you made me laugh!!! That is not to say that I am for or against that position - (Hmm might have to join Kerry.) Let's see how things play out - it will be interesting.
I am fully for some big changes in the coaching and management of this team. Something has to be done. Do do hope, however, that there are some reasonable and measurable milestones attached to the various appointments - including that of Sobers - to make these employees accountable. If the milestones are not met, then the WICB needs to be able to move on. Let me also add that I see the Bajanisation of the WICB and I am fully for it. Just like accepting foreign, colourless coaches, I am totally cool with each and every member of the WICB staff being from the island with (arguably) the most developed cricket system. Barbados has a good record in domestic cricket, and it makes sense to see a lot of Bajans in West Indies cricket. However, just like with the coaches, I expect results and if I cannot see results in a reasonable timeframe then I want changes. Arawak West Indies - my team win, lose, draw, or foreign coach.

In reply to carl0002: I concur with you bro.I applaud this move 100%. Let the hypocrites and bigots take a facting hike. We are heading in the right direction.
Well done king. You will be your own man and not ponder to the old gits in the wicb. I know your team wont take any shit from those who put their hands in their pockets when they are fielding and wearing watches on the field. Your regime will be tough and fittness and those who wont comply wont play for the west indies anymore. Watch this pace. We wont see the crap that we called fielding again like the ones we see in england, in which we where the laughing stock. Ladies and gentlemen lara will be told he must turn up for training and field in the slips. This what make the ausises i must admit a great side.
In reply to Rastaman: Rastaman i'm impressed by your sagacity....you're not as stupid as u look....
In reply to Rastaman:
CHRISSY!!!!!!! CUTTY CALLING YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
In reply to larr:Well, Larr, I don't look anything like yuh and that's a blessing for I & I fi sure!!!!!!!!!
gary gordon, there you go again about rosseau. ask rosseau and his management company he set up to run the world cup in the wi how much money he stands to gain in management fees which should have gone to the wicb? man you must stop spouting this chite on this MB.
Rastaman: Whether the suggestion to have sobers as a member of the coaching staff was initiated by king or not, is something up for conjecture at this point. One thing I feel sure about is that Sobers was not imposed on him by the board or sponsors. Hence ,he did not accede to anyone in this matter. My feeling is that if King did not want Sobers, King would have declined the job offer. So directly or indirectly, Sobers' appointment had the full backing of King. Arawak, i am in full agreement with your thesis. Personally, I am in full agreement with the bajanisation of Windies cricket at this time. This has nothing to do with insularity. For most of our history since 1885 or thereabouts when the first triangular tournament was held between Trini, Guyana (Demarara) and Bajie, the administration of our cricket has been largely bajanised. That doesn't mean it was always administered properly. I believe that Griffith is putting everything on the line at this point. He is the CEO and his job is to lead. In as much as I don't favour the appointment of a foreigner as our coach, I admire his determination to make unpopular decisions. he deserves to have the people around him whom he thinks he can best work with. In the lesser scheme of things, it is his neck on the line. In the global scheme of things, it is Windies cricket. Let the man lead.
In reply to Rastaman: Rasta, you tend to see things in black and white, so to speak. It is possible that the influx of bajans is due to insularity, but it is also possible that the most qualified people in the region are coming from barbadoes right now. As much as I want to wave the green, gold, and black, the fact remains that Barbados is widely recognised as having the best cricket infrastructure in the region. So it makes sense to me that people from that system are moving up into the regional body. Please don't talk shit about Rosseau and how the current problem as caused by the current regime. The decline started long ago under Rosseau, and continues to this day. Maybe the new regime is no better, but it's certainly no worse. Arawak West Indies - my team, win lose, draw, or foreign coach.
I was opposed to the notion that we had to hire a foreign coach. Not opposed to a foreign coach or in favor of the a home grown coach, but against not thinking broadly. The structure sounds like a step into the 21st century and hopefully the coach will be treated more fairly than it seems Logie was treated. Anyway nuff said, if a headcoach can't have a voice in chosing his staff then you might as well not hire him.

In reply to Cutty: Could we soon see "West Indies, my team - win, lose, draw or foreign managed" ? lol
In reply to JahJah:Will we see more "Go Kingie!!!!" rallies?????
I?m loving this??it?s reading out like a good old soap opera. :D
In reply to JahJah: We might see that or " West Indies, my team, win lose or draw, foreign coach and all." Ah waiting patiently bro. Hahahahahh.
In reply to garyg: How often do you run out of toilet paper??????? Just checking.
As for Sobers he comes in with a slight credibility problem, I think. A few weeks ago he was hell bent on no foriegn coach and all of a sudden it is announced along with the new coach that he is a technical consultant. Just like that. What the hell happened? If I was Griffith I would make him stand up at a press conference and announced his support for what the WICB is now trying to do. Since he has gotten a little closer to the situation he now understand the dynamics of the situation and throw his support fully behind it. Short of that it just looked like Sobers was not willing to support a foreign coach once he Sobers was on the outside, but will be willing to work with him once he was getting paid. Which typically is the Caribbean coaches downfall. Everythink is OK once yu getting a paycheck. However when that paycheck aint forth coming, all sorts a problems arise including the lack of support for which you were not complaining about yesterday. Notice I am not saying that Sobers should not be involved. However his statements when he was not being paid by the WICB suggests that they need to do some PR work around the appointment.
In reply to carl0002: Don't tek worries bro. Sobers has always been about, Gary Sobers. It seems like a deal was cut to his advantage.
In reply to Cutty: Yeah, but I would have made him done something for me. The press conference announcing to the entire Caribbean that the greatest cricketer that the Caribbean ever produced fully supports the WIBC in their efforts to improve the WI team, would do a whole lot to dispell some of the uneasyness about the King appontment. Add to that we now know that King is bringing an assistant also, so the entire thing could have been spun to appease everyone. But they missed out. We can't expect these guys to think of everything any way. At least they are trying. One day they may get it all right at the same time.
carl02, Welcome to the world of politics as it is in everything work, sports, government etc. Sobers may well be a move to placate many. What ever you or i think of him he is the breatest cricketer we produced and his 'advisor' position is really the WICB watchdog !! King has been appointed and though some of us wish not to or fail to see it he has been given unprecedented tools and freedom to make sure he succeeds !! The WICB has covered that angle to avoid embarassment of any kind. Kings credentilas dont amount to a hill of beans if he fails and he cant say his hands were tied either !! Its a win win for the WICB - success and they can say we gave him a heck of a head start failure and they can use the same excuse to dismiss him !! It is funny how this is the same ultra power denied future managers and coaches etc after LLoyd. WIDB had vowed that no one will have LLoyds influence on or off the field again or so the story goes. For my part I will alwyas support the troops since King will be blessed with the infussion of a healthy Richardson, Rampaul, Fidel, Best, Washington just to name a few to select from !! I stand by my pots that when Washington, Richardson , and Ravi are a part of Windies core 5 fast bowlers in 16 players we will start to march upward !! It doesnt matter who was coach King, Logie, Lloyd, Dujon, Botham, Chapple if they were not given the tools and power needed. Windies cricket was tops when they infused their own brand of bowling attack never seen before, it may well be that it will change things again when we adopt a coaching style similar to American sports- the coach is the boss and throw out that old English mentality !!
In reply to carl0002: That is on the money.................this will mark the end of missing tapes??????????
In reply to Scar: The attempt, whether real or imagined to appoint Sobers as some kind of watchdog is exactly what the WICB should have avoided. It is better to have him supporting the proceess rather than watching for it to fail. Remember he was the one who was vocal about no foreign coach. So If I appoint him as a consultant without some kind of statement of how supportive he is of the process, I have already started undermining the the very system that I just created.
In reply to Caribbe:
BOY WE FAST
Carl02, I agree with you but such is the nature of the beast. Where I work at a world changing org. they have changed the entire senior staff from CEO down. However it was pointed out at a board meeting that they new positions seem to all go to women so they turned around and appointed a blackman to the next available EVP position. Only thing is he was the head of the diversity comittee - it is not unusual what the WICB did- no easier way to silence the spokesman that to include him on the inside inclsusively. he now becomes part of the process !!
In reply to Scar: Don't get me wrong you know Scar. I am not against the appointment of Sobers as technical assistant. Its an absolutely brilliant idea. That is not my contention. I just thought the WICB did not use his appointment to its maximum effect. Now that he is unboard get him to endorse yu program publicly, since he was aginst it. Like building credibility. At least mek him do something for the fus paycheck. Just like the situation you pointed out about your EVP. You think the board won't use him or profile him as an example of diversity. Build credibility. Well they should have done the same with Sobers.
Now the die is cast and King is calling the shots the first thing he does is hire one of his boys as his assistant ok thats fine he needs to work with someone who has his back but what about the transfer of his skills and technology what are we paying huge sums of money for who among us will be shadowing him learning from him and
In reply to carl0002: carl02, I aint against it either !! Its our house and looks like we goin have to get back we independance all over again !! :) I was pointing out that he is there to be the watchdog but that doesnt have to be a bad thing. He will be the communication link to all from within the WICB. fans, media and ICC (cause dem have a hand in everthing) I dont think he will rock the boat or try to but he will go to his insideers in the WICB with any negatives he notices and let then handle it. We all know that he has had his role spelled out to him !! Sobers as a batting tech has helped Lara and he has helped Devon Smith now if dem could get him some laser eye surgery and some of them new knee implants and send him ot there wid a bat !! :) Just kidding Bravo looks the bit and he could learn to bat better from Gary !!
In reply to Arawak: you are entirely correct, a man of your convictions, and someone with the interest of west indies cricket at heart barbados is going through a lean time in terms of spectacular talent, but still they make the very best of what they have. their work ethic is most commendable. they have the "right stuff" jamaica on the other hand is brimming with natural talent, ALL of which is squandered because of their reckless lifestyle and pursuit of glory and glamour and rousseau did screw up west indies cricket royally with his "jamaicanization" of the west indies team, his abandonment of discipline to the sagga bwaays, and his expectations of enrichment.....greed, that is it was barbados who brought home the ICC trophy, with griffith, howard, browne and braddie, being responsible HAIL BARBADOS, HAIL WEST INDIES i have excoriated griffith for humiliating viv richards, and handing the totality of west indies cricket, lock, stock, barrell, to a fatally flawed batting genius, brian lara but i may yet eat my words, for it seems griffith did have plan. if the plan was to bring in a foreign coach, then certainly richards would have had to be removed. the let down might have been more dignified, but in the end, lets hope that the stature of this collossus of world cricket has not been dimished and in passing, those who accuse richards of racism because of his "black team" comment, are evil and should be sruck down like vermin. two of the cricketers he admires most are indians (gavaskar and tendulkar). he has a child with and indian woman, for both of whom he has expressed his devotion. he and neena gupta gave gave the child an african name, "maseba". he is the godfather of a white man's child. he has publicly acknowledged his appreciation to alf gover and brian close for making him the cricketer he was. and he has made it known that being descended from slaves, is a source of pride and an inspiration to him so to those of you who wish to brand richards as a racist, a pox upon you. may you rot in filth and burn in hell sooooooooooo. griffiths got rid of richards, and with imminent radical changes in the pipeline, i suppose it was reasonable to leave logie, skerritt, lara, in place........ad interim. exit skerritt, enter howard. then lara showed he just did not have a clue, so howard sends for browne.......griffith, howard, browne, brings home the bacon.......with a little luck. but whoa.....fortune favours the brave so to bennett king a good man, no doubt, with an up to date approach to coaching, and the knowledge of all the most recent methods and procedures. and because of his on-going responsibility for, and intimacy with, coaching and coaching methods, he is a better man for the job than any west indian in the present sphere of potential candidates. but will we learn????? the last time english county cricket took us to the very top of the world, we sat on our ample bamseys and did nothing, learnt nothing can bennett king teach us how to fend for ourselves and will his message, as it sulely must be, that we must redesign our entire structure and organization of west indies cricket, if we wish to compete in a hungry and hostile world..will his message go unheeded?????? we will see what we shall see!!
Well, let us sit back and wathc the ride. At last our cricket should be puled into the 21st century.
Well said Franky boy, nice post!!
In reply to sabina: Robin Singh is out techie guy. Why wasn't he tried?
Well said Subs...you forgot to mention that Botham is Richard's best friend. I give Mr. King about a year if you so long. The one thing I don't think that has been taken into account is the cultural difference. The WICB is asking a man with little or no experience in dealing with West Indians to have complete control over them. How is he going to deal with the subtle nuances between players from different islands? How is he going to deal with the independent minded and strong willed players like Lara and Sarwan? As someone who has not played first class cricket is he in a position to dictate to Lara, Sarwan or Chanders? I think with issues like that West Indies cricket would have been better served if it were Chappell or Marsh who had been appointed, but too late for that. The one thing the WICB has not been able to do is create a culture of professionalism. It is something that they're trying to do top down instead of bottom up. Their investment should be in local club cricket.....that is where the the heart of Windies cricket lies.
In reply to faada: expect you to support shit as usual sooooooooooo. griffiths got rid of richards, and with imminent radical changes in the pipeline, i suppose it was reasonable to leave logie, skerritt, lara, in place........ad interim. exit skerritt, enter howard. then lara showed he just did not have a clue, so howard sends for browne.......griffith, howard, browne, brings home the bacon.......with a little luck. but whoa.....fortune favours the brave skerrit resigned, long before de fiasco wid richards started. howard sent for browne? it is so sad, the level of scuntery i read here from people that are supposed to be so well educated. you people seem to dwell on commess and propoganda. ESPECIALLY WHERE BRIAN LARA IS CONCERNED. some idiot posted some nonesense bout senior players in de camp, and de first person to jump in to respond is you. yuh doh fool me at all. but gladly for all. the genius' career is soon going to be over. we the ones that supported him through it all, will indeed miss his presence. you the notorious detractors, will jump and wave. i just hope that he is left in peace to enjoy the rest of his life. meanwhile, i will continue to support the man.
In reply to rikiniki: I too support the genius Brian Lara and having supported him throughout will miss him once he retires. Lara the legend the genius thanks once again for all the entertainment u have provided. zee gr8test.
Does the WICB have ANY programmes to encourage the development of excellent coaches in the Caribbean? I hope we are not entering a phase where all the plum top jobs in West Indies cricket will always go to non-nationals.
This is exactly how professional sports is supposed to operate. The new head coach selects/appoints his assistant. This is a positive step for West Indies cricket. Finally a fresh start - no more of the same old bullshit!

In reply to crapaud: They do have a coach development programme... headed by Darren Holder, An Australian!! If you are starting to realise that the WI are woefully far behind as far as coaching abilty & training is concerned, well, join the reality based community...
In reply to JOJO: Good point Coaches MUST hire their own assistant
In reply to carl0002: What foolishness you are talking. Sobers unlike you was a great servant to West Indies cricket and even if he is against foreign coach is I am that does not mean he would not serve West Inies cricket to help on the way up. Sobers has forgotten more about cricket than Bennett will ever know.
In reply to denoke:
You obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about. What do you know about bennett King and his coaching techniques, methods or his coaching history, how much research have you done before shooting off your mouth. SOBERS was a great player, but KING is a great coach. There is a difference and if they work together as anticipated then the West Indies will be the big winners. Give KING a chance, you may end up eating all your stupid comments. If the West Indies turn it all around under KING then people like you will change your tone and all of a sudden, it will probably have been your idea to hire King. This should be a hypocrite free zone.
