West Indies captain Brain Lara who stroked a sizzling unbeaten 196 on the third day of the second Test match against Pakistan spoke with the media after the innings. Following are excerpts from his responses:
On how he rates this innings alongside his others:
It's not finished as yet and I really don't like rating innings. The fact of the matter is that we put together some really good partnerships and it was important for those partnerships and for someone to go out and get a big score. I'm quite happy to do that, I relish the opportunity but in terms of categorizing it, I don't see the need to.

That murderous Over
The apogee came the next time they met, however, a union that had already ceded four boundaries and two sixes to the West Indian. The turf then became a dance floor, Lara its Travolta. Over six balls, he jigged up the pitch, went back once and then danced down thrice more for four, six, six, six and four, all between the straight and square leg. More than the twenty-six runs, the footwork should be recorded. Sixty Lara runs from 29 Kaneria deliveries in that period was murder, nothing short.

I am trying to recall a previous occasion where:
1. a team's top bowler was targeted; and
2. treated with such disdain; and
3. for such a long period of time.
It was one of the most amazing batsmanship I have EVER seen.
In reply to dcbreds
DIBOSS say Canary was not targeted..

What murderous over...DiBoss went easy on Kaneria.

Try 688 in 3 tests against SL and pelter Murali.
And don't mind if you didn't see it....neither did I, but it was licks like peas anyway.
Di cappo really at ease with the media.

Yeah, but 60 in 29 balls? It is as if he watched Cane-eria and told him: Leh mih show yuh how I control this game. In fact, he did something similar to him in one of the tests in the Caribbean, but not 26 in one over and 60 in 29!!! I do not recall seeing or hearing of anything comparable to 60 off one bowler in 29 balls - and their top bowler to boot!
In reply to dcbreds
go watch what Viv Richards did to a young, fast pacer named Bob Willis, without a helmet, on a BOWLER's wicket in 1980 in England................think it was Trent bridge!
Willis was dropped for the following 2 tests i think.
How come a bowler's wicket???
Look at the scores in the game......no team scored 300 in any innings...........no tons either.
Regards and dont hesitate to ask me anything!
In reply to dcbreds
For anyone else, 60 in 29 would be fantastic.
For DiBoss against Kaneria - business as usual. And if he did not have more important team goals to achieve, it would have been far worse.
Kaneria's no Warne or Murali, and he tamed them...so who is Kaneria and what is a little 26 in 6 or 60 in 29?
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
I won't be surprised if Viv did something similar. But I do not recall him doing anything like this. If you recall the events, please share.
Thanks

In 1980 on a bowler's wicket, richards stood at one end wid Greenidge at the other and hit about 10 fours off Bob Willis.........he never moved from that end and reached 50 while Greenidge scored about 7 runs........oan a seaming wicket.
Every other batsman in th whole match struggled while Richards played like it was a batsman's wicket.
And without a helmet.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Dat dam Richards used to bat like Lara then...
In reply to DAVE400
Naaah............Lara wears a helmet and could not handle the pace like Viv.
tell the truth.....did u hear how the short ball was troubling him when the second new ball was taken??
Huh??
Right afer he murder Danish and was set, he was uncomfortable against the quicks AND ON A BATSMAN'S WICKET!
That said it all to me.
Exciting batsman no doubt, but no great west indian batsman should look so bemused against quicks with a helmet and on a batter's wicket.
So i see it and so everyone saw it lass night if he'she is an aficonado of the game.
Regards nevertheless!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Vague reference....not enough detalis...
...plus Bob WIllis was no great pacer....mere trundler, like Vasbert Drakes.
Reach again...see if you come better.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie ... a hope you not playng on those "bushy wickets" without your "helmet" on?
In reply to dcbreds
I tell yo'all Adams & Lara tag-team McGrath & Warne
& bloody muder was commited at Sabina Park.
Larr broke the 200 runs barrier then.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Bob Willis??? Oh MY GOD. All of ah sudden Willis turn Croft and Holding?
In reply to redbaron
Bob Willis has over 300 test wickets chap.........and was one of the quickest in that time.
Get real man.
I saw Willis destroy Aussies at Headingley in 1980/81 on abatters wicket after Botham slammed a ton..
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
So you have tabanca for Richards?
Oh loss oh loss! It takes a Lara to horn a Spuds. What a ting!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
TriniD saw Lara play Ambrose, de best bowler of his generation, wid relative ease. Dat was when Lara was younger and had better reflexes.
Like yuh forget. Lara is THIRTY fugging SEVEN. Viv ent do NOTHING dat compares tuh Lara at ah similar age. NUTTEN. In fact. He doh even come close at ah comparable age. Sooooo
Wheeeeeeeeeeel and Hate AGAIN.
In reply to Trinidave
Bob Willis name u calling wid Croft??
Maan......kerry yuh skunt...................dat is a man wid over 300 test wickets.....maybe over 325 tuh rass.
Allyuh does really fool allyuhselves!
His record looks better than Holding's too.
Steeeeeeeeeeuuppsssssssssssssssss...........!!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
You go pee yuh pants arguing tar tar here bwoy!
In reply to Trinidave
Man listen.......Richards played on bowler's tracks in Englkand in 1991 and averaged over 50...............if yuh dont know ask somebody.
Go and watch what he did to lawrence at the Oval..............watch the flat hook fuh 6.
And that was no flat wicket.
i juss keeping it real fuh allyuh!!
Lara batting on a batsman's paradise in this test.........FLAT TRACK!!
Even Gayle and facting Ganga mekking runs........even facting Bravo.
YET.................LARA STILL LOOK LIKE A NOVICE AGAINST THE PACE.
Do u deny that??
That he was troubled by the short ball when the new ball was taken??
Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeww...!!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Lemme jus ax yu one factin question. Was Richards at 37 anywhere as good as Lara is now?
oh yeah...regards
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Lawrence???
In reply to Zikdaman
The only difference is that Richards never had the apetite fuh runs that Lara has always had.
But in terms of talent and ability, Richards is by FAR a superior player..................
And at 37, never wore a helmet.
I think u need to go listen to that panel of experts talk about playing withouta helmet.
Oui??
Regards anyway!
In reply to GrimReaper
So who is the skunt that had Lara all over the place wid the second new ball??
Huh??
Gul?????????????????????
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.........
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.
Lara proved himself to be a flat track bully again.
Thats all!!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Simple question SpudDotish....Why is there no other ton in the match?
In reply to frangela
i buying drinks tonight!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
TriniD never wear ah helmet either. Does dat mean TriniD is as good as de Vivster?
Maaaaaan. Stop skirting de fuggin issue.
Appetite fuh runs. Steeeeuuuuuuuuups.
Did Viv at any point in his career demolish ah spinner ON ANY KIND OF WICKET, as Lara did?
At any facting point. Did Viv master any master spinner, such as Warne or Murali as Lara did? Yuh talking bout how many wickets Willis tek? Go facting check how many wickets Warne and Murali tek. Two of de greatest bowlers (NOT SPINNERS), but BOWLERS of ALL FACTING TIME.
Oh yeah, TriniD forget. Viv didn't wear ah helmet, and he didn't have de appetite fuh runs.... blah blah blah.
Maaaaan. Wheeeeeel and HATE again.
In reply to Trinidave
triniD...............talk to the great explayers and they wil tell you that dominance over pace will always be held in higher esteem than over spin.
Listen.........................there is no evidence of Viv being troubled by spin as much as there is of Lara being troubled by pace.
It never ends with Lara........we have all seen numerous pacers make him look like an idiot, wid he helmet on.
He just lucky that they cant bounce his rass AS MUCH as they used to when Viv was playing.
That is the bottom line.
Look..........you need to click on that link and listen to Sanjay and Ian Chappell and John Wright......and stop chatting yuh factories.
They saw what we all saw.
learn the game.....!

Yes. In QPO vs India in 76. India had Bedi, Venkat and Chandrasekhar in dey lineup. Vivi lik 130 sumting against dem. He didn't quite have de measure of Chandrasekhar but he mash up de other 2. On a scale of how Lara annhilate Canary? No. But Canary, while an excellent bowler, couldn't compare to dat spin trio from India eedah.
Lissen. I believe Lara is de bess. But doh try and put down Viv to try and prove yuh point. Viv wasn't easy.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
2 words fuh you. Bhagwat Chandrasekhar.
In reply to imusic
That was only in his first test..In 1976 Viv murdered the Indian spinners..
Only cocky Bedi would be foolish enough to claim superiority over Viv..
By the same token, Lara struggled against Venkataphay Raju in 1994...but who cares?
In reply to imusic
How is dat ah putdown, tuh state ah fact.
Steuuuuups.
Even you admitted dat any dominance dat Viv had on spinners was not tuh de extent dat Lara dis against spinners. Dat's just stating ah fact.
PHEW.
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
Not true. Dat's ah subjective opinion.
It never ends with Lara........we have all seen numerous pacers make him look like an idiot, wid he helmet on.
Man.... Lara at 37 is more troubled wid pace. But Lara has made his runs against all kinds of bowling.
And stop skirting de issue. Yuh comparing Lara at 37 wid Viv in his prime. Smoke-fuggin-screens.
In reply to Trinidave
Why allyuh does pay attention to Spudz. Spudz is ah wash up bitter ole man dat cyah get over de fact dat ah Trini surpass EVERYTHING Viv ever do or achieve.
Leave de man alone, let him fret. At least it takes his mind off his macaroni dick. ![]()

So how did the great conquerors handle Hirwani and how did di baby boy handle said man?
Hirwani v Viv et al
19 year old Lara v Hirwani

"Look..........you need to click on that link and listen to Sanjay and Ian Chappell and John Wright......and stop chatting yuh factories."
Like you heard a completely different round table than I did? I heard all, bar none, state that lara is the best batsman of his era...the best ever player of spin and the only one that all of them would pay money to see play...
I think its silly to put down the mighty Viv who was such a brilliant destroyer of the opposition in his day and a west indian to boot! However, one of the dumbest things he ever did was not to wear a helmet...
....but then again , he wasn't too bright, was he??
Lara you played a respendant innings today and truly deserve to bring off a vistory, much like the infamous B'dos oval v the aussies.
I am so tired of folks putting you down, although you'll really have to explain the dropping of ronnie, one of these days??
Hopefully you all come to your senses by the third test when we will need him to help us win the series!!!
all o wunna talking bare SHYTE
Get off the cyber hi-way
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
man, you're talking about lara being troubled by the short stuff when the new ball came in...give the man a break, he's 37 yeard old..surely if he's allowed to have one flaw in his game, it's his age!!
In reply to SpudsMcKenzie
 Serious?- Willis was that fast- I'm getting old, then - For that matter, was Old that fast as well? What about Underwood - From this perspective, even Tony Greig would have been brisk when he bowled Sobers.
In reply to imusic
Yep remember that with Viv and it was good, equally good - Kaneria is not that bad though :-o
Do we feel better when we make comparisons?
spuds and other haters cyah tek Brian Lara meking runs.
it's dat simple. dat idiot talks of Richards in 1981, forgetting Brian Lara didnt wear helmet at times in his younger years.
such fugging jealous idiots.
