HEADLINE: Lara: We Can Save This Match

CaribbeanCricket.com Nov 30, 2006, 7:02:47 AM

West Indies captain Brian Lara spoke with the media after the fourth day of the third Test match against Pakistan in Karachi. Following are excerpts from his comments.

On how the match is poised going into the final day:

It resembles a Test match that we had at the beginning of the year against India in St Lucia and we were able to do it (save the game). We've got recognized batsmen to come, myself and Sarwan are out there, Chanderpaul and Bravo, Ramdin who played well in the first innings.

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com Spot on comments Skipper. I agree wholeheartedly.

I noticed that Morton not mentioned as a recognozed batsman, but Bravo was........

Flickcan Nov 30, 2006, 7:13:05 AM

The only recognized batsman to come is Chanderpaul. The others are just that...upstart.

Unless they pull a Aus 418 comeback, this game is ova.

I f is one time I want Morton to score a century ...is now.

Lara ....the great motivator and leader.

Talk about people from "smaller islands" trying to be aloof..Testimony to Lara's "inclusive" strategy

Admin Nov 30, 2006, 7:24:32 AM

If Lara and Sarwan come out tomorrow to bat for a draw and start pushing and prodding to Kaneria, it'll be over by the first water break after lunch.

_r

Surya Nov 30, 2006, 7:25:50 AM

In reply to Admin Having said that, Lara looked very positive today and Sarwan didn't look tentative either..
So we can hope for "business as usual" from them and nothing extravagant to chase the target down

That is not in lara's plan at all. He did say they have to play their natural game, but not extravagantly.

So he is talking of mixing agression with caution. The problem is if they will be able to do just that. You are correct, the one thing they cannot do is allow themselves to get bogged down at all.

if they start defensively they will loose... the aim should be to get to tea without loosing wickets and scoring at atleast 4 an over...

prasad Nov 30, 2006, 7:31:45 AM

till tea they must play at around 3-3.5 losing at max 2 wkts then go on attack mode .possibilities of winning is too low.Indians nearly won the match against pommies by doing so.

It might be worth noting that the last time WI saved a match like this - Mo contributed with a 1/2 century!

gvenkat Nov 30, 2006, 7:57:21 AM

Draw before defeat attitude will lead to only DEFEAT... england scored 407 runs in 79 overs in the last ashes .. its a 5th day pitch and i know all that but they should go with a positive mind frame thinking they can make a fight of it..

openning Nov 30, 2006, 8:03:55 AM

We must try and win this game, this is the final test and we are down by one game, Lara and his troop must go after the bowling.

BTW, going after the bowling doesnt meant slogging.
Inzy is going to have people around the bat, it is up to Lara & Sarwan to hit the ball into the gaps.
This is now a 90 overs game.

My question to this MB, can Sarwan play a secondary role to his captain, or will he gift his wicket away, because de skipper is attacking the bowling?

lol I wonder what excuse teh LBLs will come up with for that. If was Shiv you would hear how dumb he is "cannot even remember the names of his players" kinda comments.

Of course teh great one will be exonerated even though he just recently dropped his VC for the said batsman whom he claimed deserved a chance for his stellar performances with the bat.

anandgb Nov 30, 2006, 8:33:06 AM

In reply to SpudsMcKenzie Why you don't STFU? How man wickets did Kaniera take all series? and for how much? Even Mohamed was belting him around for 6s

anandgb Nov 30, 2006, 8:34:32 AM

In reply to daxWho knows? We may have to depend on that same non-recognized batsman to save us tonight. Watch the proceedings.

birdseye Nov 30, 2006, 8:39:11 AM

Lara sounds like he and George Bush living at the same address – “denial”. WI will save this match only if granny makes a double, and what are the odds of that happening.

I think the gentleman's excitability at the prospect of the West Indies losing this final test is a way for him to unleash all the energy he would have spent chastizing Lara had Lara not made 216 in the second test. Note the overuse of !!Exclamation Marks!!!, maniacal cackling "hahahahahahas", extensive over-use of CAPS LOCK and spit curdling steupsses flying in all manner of direction forever soiling this page making it now barely readable..

They are just gonna play their natural game with minimal risk-taking. Prodding and poking is not a part of the plan at this time.

So if the VC was dropped because he (Morton) deserved a place in the team, then are you suggesting that teh VC is not a recognized batsman?

Please explain the innuendo here. I do not like the inference at all.

Doghouse Nov 30, 2006, 3:15:10 PM

In reply to Admin They should be pushing for a win. This is certainly a defeatist attitude by Lara. What does he mean save the match, why doesn't he try to win the damn thing? Or urge the other players to try and win it?

444 is ver difficult

90x 4 is till only 360

Hold on deh ... what unnuh want ... the skip to name the whole team of batters ...
come on now.
We do find some real shit to hang on to. I sure I've heard thee skip refer to Morton as capable before ... so if him name 4 so what ...

If he had named Morton and left out Shiv ... wewould hear the same shit all over again.

In a sppech/commentary of this sort ... no one calls thename of all possible mentionables ... GIVE IT a RASS REST ... not just Wally alone!!!

And this is not no LBL talk ... it is straight from the heart.

The VC was not dropped because Morton deserved a place in the team. Aren't they both playing in the same 11 now? Jeez, yu gonna win the Jessica Simpson award hands down for more reasons than one! Here you are trying to be a smart-ass and you are looking even dumber than usual!

rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

Krishna, stop be so negative man. Why you say 4 and not five? What is wrong with you? The moment you use the word difficult, you are defeated already. It means that in your mind you think you can't win. The word should be we will win it today. Nothing more nothing less. And please stop it with this negative attitude crap.

np Nov 30, 2006, 6:10:31 PM

We do have 90+ overs remaining in this game -- it ended early 2 days in a row ...
close to 99in fact ... hence the earlier start today ....

zimzimma Nov 30, 2006, 6:42:34 PM

What time it starting?
Yu sure it starting early.

xyberkidd Nov 30, 2006, 6:46:43 PM

Lara will be out early....Sarwan and Shiv will hold on lil bit...but we will lose it all in the end.

xyberkidd Nov 30, 2006, 9:52:28 PM

Lara held on longer than I thought......

it'll be all over soon if Shiv goes...

anandgb Nov 30, 2006, 9:55:43 PM

Fahim Nov 30, 2006, 9:56:04 PM

In reply to xyberkidd

haha!

lara was after the win...not after a draw...that's why he went early...

how wrong and stupid you were...30 runs is what u predicted....

now i suppose you'll tell me 49 is a bad score...by lara's standards...it's bad...

you fool...never doubt the maestro..

and windies not losing this...losing is not option...winning is...draw is the worst we getting

wanna bet?

anandgb Nov 30, 2006, 9:59:23 PM

In reply to zimzimma How is that looking dumb? Do you have your head screwed on properly? Didnt you hear Lara's speech? Lara said that Morton deserved a place in teh team when Sarwan was dropped.

Do you suffer from selective hearing?? or are you in denial?

zimzimma Nov 30, 2006, 10:16:44 PM

In reply to anandgb

Sarwan was dropped for Morton, yet both Sarwan and Morton are playing together in the following match! Do you have any reasoning ability whatsoever?
