HEADLINE: 30-Man Windies World Cup Squad

CaribbeanCricket.com Jan 12, 2007, 9:06:54 AM

<p>The West Indies selectors today (Friday) named Keiron Pollard and Gavin Tongue in a largely predictable 30-man squad for the 2007 World Cup.

The initial squad, which will be pared before the tournament starts, features two specialist openers, three spinners, three wicket-keepers, nine all-rounders and a handful of notable omissions.

Full Story

Larr Pullo Jan 12, 2007, 9:20:31 AM

Good squad...nice to see Dowlin getting a bit of recognition....

Narper Jan 12, 2007, 9:23:12 AM

No Kelly

So no fast bowlers bein selected. Unless of course the likes of Jerome Taylor & Collymore are seen as "allrounders" now. confused

Interesting omissions to me:

Chattergoon
Richard Kelly
Pedro Collins

Kurt Jan 12, 2007, 9:32:01 AM

No Chattergoon, no Dillon, no Kelly and no Tino Best.

The biggest suprise is the inclusion of novice T&T batsman Kieron Pollard.

prasad Jan 12, 2007, 9:33:09 AM

What about Crandon?

Larr Pullo Jan 12, 2007, 9:38:06 AM

In reply to Narper

I wouldnt have picked Crandon....

But that's just me.....

Kurt Jan 12, 2007, 9:39:08 AM

Yup IM, no collins in a squad of 30 is indeed a big surprise.

At the start of BK's reign he was the leader of the WI ODI attack.

terminator Jan 12, 2007, 9:39:32 AM

They wasted their selection on Rawl Lewis , he has nothing to offer the team nothing at all. :-o

ends Jan 12, 2007, 9:42:20 AM

Rawl Lewis instead of Kelly?

ends Jan 12, 2007, 9:44:01 AM

and what about Crandon?

ends Jan 12, 2007, 9:45:12 AM

Morton over Ganga? Little to choose but still.

terminator Jan 12, 2007, 9:46:39 AM

windies wont win this world cup and wont come close to winning it with selections like morton and lewis, really where do they think they are going with these kind of players?

Yadi Jan 12, 2007, 9:46:44 AM

In reply to Larr Pullo

Kieron Pollard cracks into West Indies 30.

prasad Jan 12, 2007, 9:47:25 AM

what rawle lewis was selected... :roll:no doubt he will not b selected in the 14 squad..but a younster cud have used the opportunity to acclimatise.

Isah Jan 12, 2007, 10:00:06 AM

What stupidity? these WI selectors never fail to baffle..........you needed a squad of 20 nothing more.....

Con...
How can this coaching staff deal with 30.......the fringe players will be on the side lines from the first hour..

Pro...
More guys will be pushing to be in the final 14.

VIX Jan 12, 2007, 10:02:31 AM

Collins shoulda been there

imusic Jan 12, 2007, 10:03:19 AM

Breakdown of picks by Territory....

Barbados - 6
Guyana - 4
Jamaica - 6
Leewards - 4
T&T - 7
Windwards - 3

Of the 30 selected, Emrit, Pollard, Dowling, Rawle Lewis and Tonge are somewhat surprise inclusions while Chattergoon, Pedro Collins, and Richard Kelly (to an extent) can consider themselves a bit unlucky.

It may also be somewhat surprising that Daren Ganga couldn't make a 30 man squad, especially as he was just recently in the starting ODI XI but honestly, he had an opportunity in Pakistan to show he could adjust his game and he just couldn't make that transition. His fielding also let him down badly in that series as well.

A squad of 30 means you can play practice matches, even with the Big Three sitting them out.

Very good squad. Let the men compete now for those places.

Unknown Jan 12, 2007, 11:18:55 AM

In reply to Narper Didn't Kelly have ah kind of altercation with de Windies A Team skipper Bouncin' pon tour in England. Well if ah so.....dem blacklisted him rass.

redbaron Jan 12, 2007, 12:41:27 PM

Shyte hounds in WI WC 2007 squad:

1. BANKS: Omari
2. BAUGH: Carlton
3. COLLYMORE: Corey
4. DEONARINE: Narsingh
5. DOWLIN: Travis
6. EDWARDS: Fidel
7. HINDS: Ryan
8. HINDS: Wavell
9. JOSEPH: Sylvester
10. LEWIS: Rawl
19. MORTON: Runako
20. POWELL: Darren
24. SAMUELS: Marlon
27. SMITH; Dwayne R.
28. SMITH: Devon S.

These shit hounds can only be part of a squad from a region that intends to make an early exit from the WC 2007.

If WI intend to win WC 2007, these shit hounds maust be nowhere near the team.

anandgb Jan 12, 2007, 12:45:17 PM

In reply to Admin Man if Hinds can get pick in the thrity then is a slap in Ganga's face that dem na even pick him for the practice games.

Chattergoon's omission is also very surprising. A year ago Kelly was one of teh promising youngsters and it is a shame to see Rawle Lewis gettin a spot before him. (I know one is a spinner) but I am talking about opportunity.

anandgb Jan 12, 2007, 12:47:57 PM

In reply to redbaron Damn, outa 30 you tek away 28, so we have only 2 in the team now? We will be a non-starter cuz we cannot provide a team. Will become a WC first. Way to make a record ra$$

Man yoiu have to renumber your list.

Cheeks Jan 12, 2007, 1:05:02 PM

Rawle very much deserves to be in that squad of 30.
Who vex lorse.

Rawle is an economical bowler and good lower order bat who showed what he could do in New Zealand..even if he didn't get much opportunity there.

Haul allyuh bad minded rass.

SpudsMcKenzie Jan 12, 2007, 1:29:49 PM

When Dowlin gets into a windies squad, one knows that the pickings are indeed slim.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN.................pathetic.

googly1961 Jan 12, 2007, 1:56:54 PM
