While speaking with the media after the fourth One Day International against India West Indies captain Brian Lara was rather frank in conceding that his team was outplayed and completely dominated. Following are excerpts from his responses:
On the decision to bat first:
There was nothing wrong with the decision to field first. I thought India batted pretty well and things didn't work out for us in the first half of the game. As long as they lay a foundation the likes (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni and (Sachin) Tendulkar at the end are always going to accelerate the score to something very special so again we started poorly.

We were out captained. Poor and worse than poor handling of the team. A schoolboy captain would have done better.

All I have to say is that the bowlers in this game would not win a game for any team against any team in the World Cup. Remember the line up Bradshaw, Smith, Emrith, Gayle, Samuels and Powell. All decent bowlers but none of them match winners. In fact some are just better than ordinary. With bowlers like these we were always up against it. Bad choices or not we were always going to be up against it. This match that many called a dress rehearsal for me was anything but. From the selection I got the impression that rather we were trying out players for roles and testing their nerve in situations.
Maybe we ought to have been further along in our preparations but as far as I know we have only 9 or 10 players as certainties. Of course the tenth would be ramdhin but he is rapidly playing himself off the team and of these players most are off form esp Gayle, Sarwan and Bravo. Tactics are born of circumstances and as far as I am concerned they suited the situation.
