If Samuels is under Indian police scanner, what is the position of the alleged bookie??? Is he being investigated??? This is something worht knowing, I think!!!!!!!

In reply to terminator Now, in my humble way of looking at things, let's for argument sake say that Samuels gave info to a bookie. If that is illegal to give the info, shouldn't it be illegal for a bookie to be seeking that info from a player in the firat place??? Yuh si mi???

I think many of us have got this thing all wrong, including you. 
The target of the investigation is not Samuels or any player. The named bookie was trailed by the police for a variety of reasons, most important being the connections with the Dubai-Mumbai-Karachi underworld mafia group who are constant targets of many police investigations in India. Samuels had the misfortune of getting involved by starting up a friendship who in all probability has links with the mafia.
Police generally track these calls mostly in the hope of catching the bookie making monetary transactions which would constitute gambling, a legal offense in India, and then arrest the bookie under the charge to make him talk. Unless there is no proof of gambling involved -- including cricket related beting -- the cops can't bring him to charge on the basis of some conversations.
They can, on the other hand, make a name for themselves by 'exposing' an international cricketer for probably violating some ICC code of conduct. The ICC anti-corruption unit and Indian law enforcement agencies have understanding about such accidental findings of 'breach of code of conduct'.
They are overzealous, like cops everywhere are, probably for our own good (or probably not). They haven't brought any criminal charges against Samuels so that implies there is no proof of any monetary transactions (gambling is illegal in India). The only thing they can do, as an intermediate result of their on-going operation, to report to ICC, earn some accolades, maybe get a promotion, feel good about themselves. That is what all cops serious about their jobs do, no point blaming them...

Reminds me of a time when I unknowingly stopped at a weed shop to make a legal purchase, and the cops stopped me and wanted to seize my vehicle. My question to them was if they know the shop selling weed why didnt they just go in and close it down?

I think your question is legitimate, but bookies are known to be scum of the earth. Its not news when they try to get information in an underhanded way. I sense that you might be trying to deflect some of the heat from Marlon, but to me all he need to do is sit back, be quiet, give a general denial and say prove it.

If the purpose is to catch the bookie, Mr. X, why would the cops publicize that they have Samuels on tape talking to a known bookie Mr. X?
Now this Mr.X, if he knows he had talked to Samuels would now be aware that the police are following and taping him.
It doesn't make sense. This is just some mischievous behavior on the part of the cops. They should be sued by Samuels for ruining his reputation.
Let's hear the tapes. If there is no betting involved, why publicize the matter with all the innuendo left hanging in the air with people's imaginations to running wild?
