CaribbeanCricket.com Feb 13, 2007, 5:30:19 PM

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has quietly created a joint venture company with a British investment firm to handle all its licensing, merchandising and Internet operations.

The WICB will own a 51% stake in the new company, which will be managed by Centrex Sports, a subsidiary of U.K.-based The Centrex Group. It is expected to launch very soon with the development of three different merchandise collections -- a WICB range of products, a WIndows sports and leisure brand and a Select Legends range that will include a Sir Garfield Sobers series of merchandise. CaribbeanCricket.com has confirmed that a new official WICB Web site is also in the work.

This is a super idea, how long we've been waiting to buy proper Windies merchandise! plus give it to someone who can actually hand the orders and do the work properly..WICB is still controlled by the "British"..the sub everything out the British companies and even the people that work there are from England...did you see all the people that are with Digicell too?

Interesting. Its a foreign company that the WICB has quietly gone into partnership with, and we dont hear comess about " No foreign company" and " What about the broker!". Did someone steal Chrissy's handle? :D

In reply to carib It not about where they reside man. This is simple economics. Who has teh money and teh inclination to partner the WICB.

Remember this is an investmentdeal.

That merchandising company stand a 49% chance of success, and a 51% chance of failure.

In reply to anandgb Quite so, an investment deal.

Strictly business indeed.

What are your thoughts on the Players' Share of the pie! Remember the image of the players on these brands/goods/services etc.

On the Investment, I am all for progress with whomever. Glad is not Digicel.

This dumb idea comes from the same place that brought us BK and his band of losers and should fail just as spectacularly. Look out for ads with Harry Belafonte singing his famous banana boat songs, natives with perennial smiles, and other trite stuff unrelated to an emerging people with a new sense of self and independence. It is time for the ph-king WICB to go with their backward neocolonial ideas....We need to recall the words of CLR James to remind ourselves of our role in cricket. Dammit, we are leaders, not followers...."Perhaps I should have seen its national significance, its relation to our quest for national identity. Here was a West Indian (Kanhai) proving to himself that there was one field in which the West Indian not only was second to no one, but was the creator of his own destiny. However, swept away by the brilliance and its dramatic circumstances, I floated with the stream." The WICB, an insipid soulless lot if ever there was one, is intent on corrupting our potential and sense of dignity.
.cool cool cool
