After much speculation the West Indies Cricket Board has finally announced the West Indies squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Newcomer Kieron Pollard is rewarded for a promising first season in the domestic tournaments with a berth ahead of some better known names.

The full squad is: Brian Lara (captain), Ian Bradshaw, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Corey Collymore, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Daren Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan (vice captain), Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor.

Reserves: Fidel Edwards, Sylvester Joseph, Dave Mohammed, Runako Morton, Darren Sammy.

Only one newbie - Young Pollard.

Make good use of your game young man. Our hearts are invested in your talent.

Good Squad. Only surprise for me was Simmons.
I think Dave Mohammed would be a better option to call on if wickets play/change later in tournament.
Sometimes you're so scared of WICB and Selectors screwing up that you're relieved when they don't.

Interesting squad. Good to see Pollard was picked - he has talent and earned his position.

Looks like team cohesion has been a selection criteria.

Dwayne Smith - gets his run for his fielding and bowling. One day he may surprise us with actually scoring a run or two.

Simmons - I suspect he was selected as a back up for Ramdin.

Devon Smith - Odd one there. I would have given Joseph a run. He bats well with the tail.

I would have brought back Rampaul as a reserve - a dogged competitor.Unfortunately, he has not had the time invested in the team.

Hopefully, the home-field support will drive them through to Kensington at the end of April.

no complaints here. I am pleased that Pollard got a pick. I pray that all of the talk around the region does not take him off of his current form and that he accepts that his career is truly in his hands. May God grant him favor and patience but most of all understanding and wisdom.
No complaints with the rest of the team...good mix of experience , those struggling with all the potential they have in Ramdin and Dwayne Smith. and the youngsters like Simmons.

I'm glad to see Pollard get picked. You simply *have* to reward performance or else you have no business asking for it.

Now it is up to him to prove himself at the next level, and if he can't make it yet, he should be sent back without any shame, to continue to develop.

Wouldn't it be a treat if he can hold his own though...

Totally agree with you on Rampaul as a reserve shoule have gotten the nod ahead of Edwards, still can't forget the last world cup when he bowled that second to last maiden over and cried when Chris Gayle messed up the last over. Good team, everyone was on my list including Mohammed. Didn't choose any of the reserves.

The West Indies messed up when the left out the previously injured trio of Lawson, Rampaul and Collins out of the 30. They left themselves with no outs and now we go into a World cup with no cover for injury prone Taylor and Collymore. This was compounded by the performances of both Lawson and Collins with excellent bowling and Rampaul with late order batting and vital wickets.

Any selector worth their salt should have realised that Banks, (game doesn't suit One Day Cricket), Tonge (chance ain't come yet), and Rawl Lewis (not consistent enough and doesn't take enough wickets), could have been left out since they were never going to be selected. In fact other teams have selected injured players with the hope that they will be fit for the next round so why couldn't we at least select some in our Thirty. Now, however, its too late to cry but we have to put all efforts to supporting our team.


God willing we will overcome but de fellas have it hard.

In reply to anandgb Well if you have not gone through the "drill" as players did in the past, and you get to the show without a resume what yuh expect the piss of deh last 10 years or so.

Pollard will not fail, cause he mite not get a game (maybe against Ireland)... this is more a prep for him. Let him get a feel of what the big times are like, must be a plus for the future.
