In a move to ensure that all spectators attending ICC Cricket World Cup matches are well hydrated, the CWC Security Directorate and the ICC have approved the bringing of bottled water into match venues, with immediate effect.
However, as a security measure, all bottle tops must be removed at the point of entry into every stadium.

Gwaaan Yamfoot!!
The pen is mightier than the sword!!
I had nothing to do with this. They must have encountered angry fans at all gates. The story just helped to highlight it I guess, but let it not be said that the mighty ICC alters rules because of journalists.
geez. so they go taste the water. geez. Now a plastic cap is a weapon. A sealed bottle not proof enough is water. But the vendors bringing in all kinds of sealed bottles.
Well it better than nothing. By the way do I have to throw the cap. I better start making some paper bottle stoppers to sell.
In reply to Yamfoot
you so humble .
I suspect the possibility of legal action on health and safety grounds prompted the decision.
In reply to Yamfoot
yammie yuh too modest yuh large and in charge ![]()
a momentious moment in cricket world cup history
In reply to WMD
I would agree with that.
Does dat mean TriniD wud be allowed tuh enter wid his Vodka in his water bottle?
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com
The Medical Committee people stepped in and raised the issue of dehydration since people were not going to pay J$130 for water.
Big up Yammie for raising the issue.
In reply to Trinidave
Duh!
In reply to Yamfoot Big up Yammy for leading teh big fight back. You go Yammy.

In reply to Yamfoot
Big up Yammie!!!!
In reply to tops
You really think they checking every bottle?
Wha dat for...
...to eliminate those WMDs - plastic bottle tops...or to secure sales of overpriced rum in venue?
White rum look like water....I guess they will be smelling allyuh water...or tasting it...
...dem bottle smellers/tasters will be tight like a wheel nut before play start....

Wonder if this is ah devious plan to stop the screwdrivers in the ziploc bags :D
Acetnt
In reply to redbaron   not to mention the longer lines that will be created.
Good sense prevailed, Yammie's article had nothing to do with the decision.
In reply to anandgb
If yuh bring 24 bottle, dey smelling/tasting all, or random sample?
Plus they nuh say if they giving yuh back the top or keeping it.
I guess we have to wait on Miss Yamfoot to report.
In reply to jamgirl
Good decision anyway. I knew Marion wasn't looking forward to all dem dehydrated peeps at di medical posts.
In reply to Chrissy
What make dem ICC and LOCos peeps believe that West Indian will spoil their WC by pelting plastic bottle?
Dem think we uncivilised like dem - who does mash up stadium and kill people at their sports venues?
Dem think we does chant racist slurs at people who come to play sport in the region?
I excuse ICC dolts...but regional LOCos...eh eh...dem is de problem.
They bending over backward like servile menials trying to please foreign masters. I shame for them...they nuh stand up for we cricket fans.
Man have to apply in triplicate to bring in conch shell that never kill or harm anybody...except if yuh count Blue Food, the originator of conch shell at test match who died too young - maybe he blow too much in support of WI.
That is how they celebrate his memory - triplicate application shyte.
In reply to redbaron
That's why I say if it isn't better to allow only sealed bottle. It's as if they realize... shocks! Not allowing people to bring water is nonsense, so they created another nonsensic rule...
In reply to tops
The article doesn't say the reason for the removal of bottle tops and if the tops will be returned or people must go in with topless bottles.
With so little information, it's difficult to know what to think or say. But we never let that stop us..we say anyway.
At least, I do.
Yammie will tell us how it work.
I believe that these rules have everything to do with commercial considerations - and they wondered why so few locals made it to the matches - too costly and even then they want to extract blood and flesh.
I suspect that the decision was both arbritrary and taken by a limited no of persons who had little or no experience with major events and cricket in particular.
In reply to Chrissy
I'll take the credit with forcing the rule change because i did exactly that to get water yesterday. Went to the medical station and said i was dehydrated and demanded a bottle of water. The woman there was looking a bit skeptical but then the adherenence to the Hippocratic oath or whatever oath it is nurses take kicked in and she grudgingly handed over a bottle...
In reply to Larr Pullo
If they had known who you were, they woulda tell you to HYM....
In reply to redbaron
Next thing a would keel over right there in the medical station doorway....see if they wouldnt have give me a whole case of water!
In reply to Larr Pullo
WTF..yuh mussee good actor...is why people believe you a journalist...

In reply to jamgirl
same thing I tell them. You on the inside so you can speak with authority.
remove the cap?
<insert all of redbaron's posts on this here>
That's the dumbest thing I've heard this week
Doesn't it raise other health issues of dust and other impurities entering the uncovered bottle? And if somebody knock down your bottle you lose de water.
rass
what ah going do wid the the 3 cases of Zipoloc bags I just bought ????
big up the yammie...

Thank God. THis is actually the ONE AREA that fuddled my mind and confuddled it even more whe n one hears the reports of long lines and long waits for food and beverage. COMMON SENSE COMES FINALLY. Once I have my water and my fruits I am good for 10-12 hours...not bout no long lines and begging to be served. Wait tho?? My water must only be brand name or my good ole bajan water in a see through bottle can work?
