He is one half of the St Elizabeth pair of new ball bowlers. Labelled as 'lazy' by some who read about his falling out with South African club Gauteng in 2004, Daren Powell has worked hard to shake that image.
First called up to the West Indies One day team in December 2002 away against Bangladesh, he played his second match against Sri Lanka at home in June 2003. It took him another two years to get a recall, after some canvassing by Andy Roberts, and of course, a good domestic season. Inexplicably to some, he was then left out for much of the 2006 season

Long time U should have been a main part of the WI bowling line-up..Not many better than U in the Caribbean.
Andy was always in U corner while the many H-excrements fought U tooth and nail..Now we just need Lawson fit and ready.
Plus, U alway 100% fit.

Powell looked much much better in his first 7 overs against Pakistan, but he clearly faded away after that. Really he should have been taken off after his 8th over in that match.
He needs to learn how to bowl well without the pace as well, so that he can put in longer spells without going for runs.
But, a marked improvement... keep working Darren, the rewards will come!

No. He needs to get used to bowling 10 on the trot by bowling 10 on the trot.
Plus the captain used the opportunity to show his confidence in the bowler - something that can only do Powell's self-esteem a bundle of good.
It's the little nuances of the game like these that escape most superficial fans. However, us profound aficianados will be here to enlighten and redirect you all.

Best/effective opening bowler pair since....we all know, Walsh/Ambrose. Taylor & Powell da likely lads from St Elizabeth are doin' ah fantastic job.
