It's time we admitted it. Despite all the hopes and all the work, CWC has failed to perform for the Caribbean. Hotels bookings are suffering, restaurants are complaining, stores are empty, even the cricket grounds have many open seats.

Someone needs to do a post-mortem and understand where it all went wrong. I don't know all the intimate details, but from what I gather the following were issues:

1. ticket pricing
2. match day organisation (eg not letting people out of the ground, etc)
3. price gouging by hotels and other organisations
4. inadequate process to manage "flow" (eg shuttle services, etc)
5. inadequate process to sell tickets (ie waiting around in line for hours)
6. making it hard for some visitors to get to the WC with visa processing (eg some of my Kiwi friends were planning to go to the Caribbean during the WC, but gave up because it was all too hard to get a visa)
7. inability to be flexible when expectations are not being met (ie with ticket pricing, etc)
8. didn't do enough research up front to maximise the economic benefit of the tournament

From a team POV you could argue that the WI did all they could to try and galvanise crowd support and build momentum - they beat Pakistan in that crucial first match and won the next two to go to the Super 8s on a high. Yet the crowds didn't come, for whatever reason.

They are a worldwide top ten ad agency though I am sure not in Bim :). A good plug really.

DDB Worldwide is one of the largest advertising agencies in the world.

I'm guessing that GHA means something like Greg Hoyas & Associates, and GHA DDB is a local affiliate/subsidiary of DDB Worldwide.

This is not an unusual corporate structure for ad agencies with worldwide affiliates.

Finally we understand that "GREED" is a bad word. Exorbitant ticket prices. Hotels see a way to rip off visitors with high room rates, people are not stupid. Now who is paying.

Duckworths, third umpires etc have been around for ages. Not sure why these rules are considered to be what busted our world cup. He should have read this MB where everybody have been saying for ages what busted it.

If I am to critique the article I must admit that IMO Greg was wondering all over the place like a bowler who could nt find line nor length. He attempted to bowl straight but ended up spraying the ball all over the place.
He starts out with a definitive statement and wanders way off into some other twilight time zone.

OZGODs response/comment I could follow, understand and even support in many cases. As for the Post Mortem...I will wait until May this year to get a better picture of things seen by midnight after the Finals on the 28th and then the short term reports from those who may or may not have benefitted along the way. 8)

I can't speak for elsewhere, but this was brilliantly well done at Sabina, and not an issue at Trelawny.

I concur...management of the flow of people in and out of sabina was very efficiently done. That certainly was not a problem.
