HEADLINE: 'Hit for Six' - Exposing our cricket culture

The stars came out in their numbers last Wednesday night to witness the World Premiere of the 1st Caribbean feature length cricket movie, Hit for Six!

From 7.p.m., the lights were flashing and onlookers gathered to get a glimpse of the many celebrities who made their way onto the red carpet at the Olympus Theatres, Sheraton Centre in Barbados. Full Story

He plays the son of the fictitious former West Indies cricketing icon Colin Thompson, who himself lost his place on the team due to a racial altercation with a white cricketer in the mid seventies. Their relationship is strained, but during the course of the story this relationship is strengthened as Thompson, admirably played by Rudolph Walker of East Enders fame, tries to coach his son back onto the team.


Did they ever show the series Love Thy Neighbour in the Caribbean? I suspect not, but there must be some West Indians from the UK who remember it.

Anyone who gets the chance should try and catch The Final Test . Hutton, Compton & co. are wooden as hell in their walk-on roles, but Robert Morley carries the whole film.

This is fantastic for cricket. When caribbean culture is celebrated by caribbean people and caribbean stories are told by caribbean people, it bodes well for the future of caribbean people. A huge problem in cricket has always been marketing. Movies with cricket as the backdrop, will be a huge boost to the marketing of cricket in the region.
