CaribbeanCricket.com Apr 23, 2007, 11:38:14 AM

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) issued a statement today dismissing a newspaper report that president Ken Gordon has not resigned. "[The report] is not correct," the board said.

It said Gordon wrote to the WICB's Executive Committee on April 17, 2007, advising that he intended to resign but was asked to reconsider his decision.

Is this idiot for real??
He writes a letter stating he intends to resign and then 6 days later says he has not resigned but was asked to reconsider and he might do just that next Sunday. This is beyond comical and is unseemly and leaves us as West Indians looking like fools.

This guy is an EGOMANIAC.He resigned but because the people can't do without him, they begged him to stay on and in truly valiant mode he is going to stay on and help us poor souls towards the promised land.
Excuse me while I PUKE!!!!!

PHEW

anandgb Apr 23, 2007, 1:26:39 PM

In reply to dcbreds Oh yes, I clearly was not thinking. Otherwise we would not be in the mess we are in.

dcbreds Apr 23, 2007, 1:39:42 PM

In reply to anandgb

Anand, KG eh really want tuh be there. There are many things that he cannot accept. And it is not likely that they are gonna make those changes.

Remember how it was leaked out that KG appointed Lara without the consent of the full Board. And then certain members were expressing displeasure while being in the chain of command. These things are not normal for someone is accustomed to people towing the line while they are in the corporation.

Anyway, I personally hope he stays and that the changes are made to strengthen the position of President. But you cannot run an organization efficiently or effectively if there is always constant intervention by the other Board members.

anandgb Apr 23, 2007, 1:45:03 PM

In reply to dcbreds You really believe that KG did not want to be president?

carib Apr 23, 2007, 1:51:28 PM

Actually its a rather statesman like letter. He is saying that he takes full responsibility for the mistakes that the WICB made and would therefore resign, but that the Board asked him back. The letter seems to signal that he wants changes made and if they are not made come April 27, that he WILL resign.

dcbreds Apr 23, 2007, 2:03:30 PM

In reply to carib

What do you think those changes are? One of them is strengthening the President's authority - with appropriate accountability.

In reply to Chrissy

Lots of dot and ts are not in here, who asked Gordon to stay on and for what?

They figured it will 'look bad' to resign during the WC, so no release, but it is out now and we look worse....like we '' ''

Many of us were heavily critical when this guy was paraded in as WICB President, then he looted Branker and became President of the WC2007, why his hurry to go and why is this invisible group stopping him?

If you resign, you will have to answer..

carib Apr 23, 2007, 2:18:27 PM

In reply to dcbreds Its Hard to say.
I would agree with a strenghtened, more accountable President. Let him make the decisions. He either gets the glory or the boot, depending on how the decisions pan out.
The retainer contracts all need to be amended so as to REQUIRE that players ewngage in off serries conditioning and training, or face termination of the contracts.Im pretty sure that the selectors willl be insisting on that.
Maybe some kind of annual financial statement? They are talking a lot about transparency.

dcbreds Apr 23, 2007, 2:21:28 PM

In reply to carib

Yeah but nothing in their release talks about transparency. All it spoke about is representatives supporting the decisions of WICB.

WRT fitness, they cannot force them to participate in off-series training. However, what they can do is have a mandatory fitness test before they can be selected in any squad. That will force them to seek out appropriate fitness regimen.

And KG will not stay unless he has more power as Board President, and that he does not get 100% support for the decisions he makes with this power.

dcbreds Apr 23, 2007, 2:49:49 PM

KG says he is in the process of deciding whether he will be in the running for President again. 8)

Nah, he trying to say that he eh want to be President until there are real changes and accountability.

anandgb Apr 23, 2007, 3:05:06 PM

In reply to carib That is absolute BS. If he meant what he said then he would demand teh resignation of all the directors and resign himself.

Threatening to resign is simply a freaking temper tantrum.

If he feels the accountability shoul dcome from the top, then teh right thing to do is unilateral resignation. No ifs, ands or butts about it.

anandgb Apr 23, 2007, 3:07:41 PM

In reply to dcbreds So he afraid to put the changes into effect? He wants someone to do the durty work?

The guy is abviously media savvy and he knows how to use words. He was in there for long enough to effect changes from within.

I do not buy this crap.

KG is a FACTING MORONIC DICTATOR.Allyuh get what yuh deserve.
He is as arrogant as they come and rather reminds me of Ross Perot. It is amazing that he said that he is not going to campaign for the Presidency but if he is asked to be President he would serve. As a result a man who had absolutely no interest or knowledge of WI cricket became President.I said at the time that a very reliable source in T&T had told me that KG had never been seen at the Queen's Park Oval for a test match at least from 1976 to that time.He was not involved in any administrative way in cricket but was a good friend of Alloy Lequay.
KG has taken the secret WICB and made it worse than a masonic lodge. He has consistently negotiated in bad faith with the WIPA.He has usurped the authority of the Directors in rejecting the selectors choice for captain and single-handedly anointed Lara last year.In addition Mikey Holding has chronicled his aversion to the truth and now this manoeuvre which while Burnhamesque/Machiavelian is not what we need at this time. The sooner KG,Jackie H and Chetty get the hell out the better. We need people like Jimmy Adams,Eldine Baptiste,Roger Harper and Michael Hall intimately involved in WI cricket.People with integrity, vision, youth and enthusiasm.

Only two ways this can be done before the contract expires.
1: WIPA will have to agree to this amendment.

2: The WICB will have to dissolve itself and start from fresh, all new Directors ( if this is the road they intend to go, then that will also be the end of WIPA)

What do you think WIPA will do in such a scenario?
