commentary by RYAN PATRICK
West Indies cricket fans sickened by the last-minute nature of negotiations between the WICB and WIPA should vent their frustrations squarely at Ken Gordon and Tony Deyal, the two key decision-makers at the West Indies Cricket Board.
According to correspondence I've seen -- documents that have been circulated to several WICB directors -- WIPA has been pleading for the board to come to the negotiation table since January 2007. Yet, despite a request in March by Ken Gordon for Deyal to be "punctilious" in observing the letter and spirit of agreements with WIPA, the board did not even reply to WIPA until two weeks ago.

HEADLINE: Blame WICB foot-dragging for latest dispute
yawn
I strongly disagree with Ryan here. The fault is solely with Ken Gordon.
WTF does "PUNCTILIOUS" mean???????
Deyal nuh gat no dictionary, how he guh know dat word!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Just let me know when WI are ready to play ball! Not interested in all this posturing!
That's business as usual and to be expected.
It's also expected that they will lose again in arbitration.
And it should be expected that they will try to ditch arbitration in the near future as inimical to their interests.
In reply to Spectator
You in an almighty hurry to bash the future losing captain....
I wonder how many trees died so that that correspondence could be facilitated?
This is a problem between incompetent Trinis - as such we the sensible members of the rest of the Caribbean have absolutely no interest in this bitter domestic dispute.
After April 29th - when hopefully the resignation of Garden Hoe will have been accepted, the firing of his stooge(Deyal) will have been concluded - and Ramnaswine will have done the right thing and demitted office - then maybe we can reengage in the process again.

Deyel said to tell WIPA and President of the WICB, ken Gorden that he has no idea what "punctilious" mean. Perhaps this might be the cause of the delay.

You know i was going to post the exact same thing......
WTF....KG mussy bright like Dukes.....
In reply to carl0002
here is what I got from Spelling B's definition of context.
extremely attentive to punctilios; strict or exact in the observance of the formalities or amenities of conduct or actions.
In reply to carl0002
Yo Carl, please be punctilious about bringing wicketkeeping gear to our Toronto Curry Goat game. Arawak left his kit with the club folks in Jamaica.

Now if I arrive on time without the gear dont blame me

There is really no excuse for WICB to take that long to respond to this and move toward a resolution, BUT if you look at what the respective roles are currently all WIPA/Ramnarine was doing during the period was just sending off letters, no proposed resolution.
Whereas the WICB was charged with running a world cup.
Still does not eliminate the WICB's apparent and continuous ineptitude.
That's the distinction I've been making all along. I think for the most part WICB as a unit is woefully inefficient and a little more than borderline incompetent, and the issue going forward is their unwillingness to draw on resources outside the region.
Call me biased, but it seems that WIPA's problem is not one of ignorance, but instead one of willful confusion. WIPA appears to me to thrive on discord.
In reply to primedog
You can't be possibly serious with this response. WACA.
_r
In reply to primedog
If you were WIPA's President, what would your response be in this matter?
In reply to primedog
If that were true then how come every single decision has been ruled in favour of the players.
Look the WICB can add any bilateral tour they wish, but they cannot chat rubbish about a bilateral tour being part of FTP. That is rubbish. The only reason the ICC includes bilateral tours on their schedule (with the word additional next to them) is so that ICC umpires, etc are provided.
The WICB are a bunch of jokers.
In reply to Chrissy ... jokers make you laugh ... me stop laugh long long time ... them is a set a [beep] [beep] [beep] [BEEP!]
yall have to know is ah set ah old time directors yuh dealing with here....real hard ears men, who don't like people orderin them around...they tek their sweet time to make decisions
they really need a young (mid 30s), intelligent person with plenty hustle to run this organization...
In reply to Chrissy and Admin
Don't get me wrong. The WICB has been dead wrong in 99% of the positions that they have taken within the past 2-3 years I'd say. They have been wrong and they have lost. It seems to me the issue there is incompetence more than anything else. Its not excused but it is what it is.
One thing the WICB come with proposals and positions that in some cases common sense should dictate they cant win.
My thing is on the other side WIPA recognizes the power they have in my opinion has abused it.
In all both sides seem quite comfortable with the status quo of this constant us against them.
I have advocated from jump street bringing in consultants from successful leagues (see MLB, NBA and NFL) to offer suggestions on infrastructure and relationships.
In reply to primedog
How about some examples of this abuse of power? Let's get down to nitty gritty without the rhetoric.
_r
In reply to Admin
Really its not rhetoric. Sorry that you interpret it that way.
When a work stoppage is threatened in all but rare instances that's what I'm refering to as an abuse of power.
At the most basic level WICB's goal is to field a West Indies cricket team. They chose who they want to represent them and the players through WIPA decide whther or not they go.
Again on the most basic level its in the players' best interest to go and play because that's how they make a living.
The compensation has to be fair, and I guess its arguable that that is what this is all about.
Let the arbitrators sort out this nonsense.
I would MUCH rather the WICB spend the time sorting out who is the captain, coach, and the team than engaging in this who struck John debate.
In fact if they cancelled the tour altogether, that would be fine.
In reply to Admin
If I could impose on you... What do you think would be a fair braod framework going forward interms of compensation. I'm not asking you to deal with all contigencies, but just a broad framework.
In reply to primedog
But that only happens when the WICB refuses to negotiate in good faith. Could you tell us one time when WIPA struck, or came near to striking without a good faith attempt by them to negotiate with the WICB?
Why is it that despite the WICB being wrong just about EVERY time they come up against the players that you somehow find a way to blame the players for the mess? And you say we shouldn't call you biased? You seem like the very definition of bias.
Gross fugging incompetence... no wonder we are bad as we are!!
In reply to Zikdaman
De man jes want to watch he cricket in peace.
He eh care how it come about, who pay what price etc.
In reply to imusic
There is a little of that, but not all the way so.
In reply to zik
This is an honest question... what are the players not getting that they should be getting?
Maybe Ramnarine should stop this nonsense now...Lara eh around again...
In reply to DAVE400
ENT?!?!?!?!
In reply to Zikdaman
You call it good faith attempt to negotiate? Wrong...there are certain rules regulations, and industrial protocol that unions have to follow before they strike. WIPA were just playing by the rules.
I am so sick and tired of the Wickedness exhibited by the WICB. Obviously Gordon has no damn clout and the Board does not respect him.
How could they when KG confused with statements like: " I offered my resignation....but I will make a decision after the entire board meets".
What a load of crap!!!
Wunnuh realy expect any team to perform under these kind of conditions? He refutes Brankers position about the finances(15 million in the red) yet says that they made a profit over the past 18 months (new maths perhaps? :?)
The fact that the board was far from Puntilicious after several letters and deploying obvious delaying tactics is some of the most disrespectful behaviour I have seen in a long time.
All o them want kidnapping...FULL STOP.I cant think of anyone who would want to pay the blasted ransom.
Enough of this BS..PULEEEEEEZE!!!
In reply to carib What is there to sort out? The decisions done mek. They only posturing punctiliously.
Look peeps. The WICB was hanging on to see how we would do in the world cup. As we were so poor they think they will get sympathy from the general public to make the players play for no money. Didn't the last president go on the airwaves to try to do the same thing before?
In reply to carib
Now why would they Cancel the Tour.. If they cancel the tour..Us as fans would like to see their heads on a chopping block.
In reply to Dukes PUNCTILICIOUS: IS DEFINE AS
(1) CAREFUL ABOUT CORRECT BEHAVIOR
(2) SAME WORD AS FASTIDIOUS:
SHOWING GREAT CARE IN SMALL DETAILS.
