HEADLINE: WIPA chides board for delaying arbitration

CaribbeanCricket.com May 2, 2007, 8:31:37 AM

The West Indies Players' Association (WIPA) has released a letter to the WICB that brings attention to the fact the board has not yet submitted its side of the argument to the arbitration panel.

The letter is in response to comments by WICB chief executive Bruce Aanensen that the arbitration proceedings cannot be concluded before the West Indies team leaves for the tour of England. Full Story

zimzimma May 2, 2007, 8:36:05 AM

On the understanding that you were quoted accurately, there appears to be some inaccuracy in the statement that Sir David is in possession of the relevant documents that the WICB has submitted to him for the arbitration process to proceed. My enquiry with Sir David this morning (Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 9.30 a.m.) as to how soon a decision was expected on the matter has surprisingly revealed that he was not yet in receipt of the WICB’s documents and written submissions in this matter

On top of everything these are some lying facters in the WICB!!!! Jeezas krise man!!! twisted

Zikdaman May 2, 2007, 8:50:08 AM

Is it a requirement of membership of or employment in the administration of the WICB that you be a lying MF? Maaaan these WICB officers are incredulous. Now let's hear the spinless caribbean jounalists chide WIPA for being "confrontational" again.

Dinas, yu da man...don't let them arrogant and dishonarable facters push players around.

bobby May 2, 2007, 8:51:47 AM

Same old same old and yet the President is begged to stay on after he resigned. It is laughable really when you consider that Ken Gordon has made no contribution to WI cricket and he is begged to remain and Brian Lara who has made massive contributions and resigns at the same time is ignored.
Don't let's get into a like or hate Brian Lara. That's not the point of this comment.

To anyone who might know the answer: is there a law which applies to the WIBC and which requires it to recognize the WIPA?

hewesleyb May 2, 2007, 9:22:24 AM

When will we the people of and from the Caribbean once and for all put the WICB out of business .... out of their misery. This is saying more about us than them. Good riddence.

What does any of that have to do with WICB breaking its signed agreement with the players?

How about setting your emotions aside and think like a big man for a change. No organization can proper and succeed if it cannot be trusted to uphold agreements it signed.

In reply to hewesleyb This is saying more about us than them.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is only because of the collective malaise of West Indian people ESPECIALLY their JOURNALISTS that the WICB can continue with this foolishness.
The WICB is fully aware of this so they will never change unless and until the people become involved.Even after spending millions of tax payers money the Governments are just as lazy and meanwhile the product i.e West Indies cricket is dying on the vine.

Oh well I got to see Kanhai and Sobers,Richards and Lara so I doan give a FCUK,especially since I doan pay any taxes in the Caribbean and so will not be burdened to pay for the spanking new stadia.

Ok dummy...that is the equivalent of dropping a player, which the board has the prerogative to do if in their estimation the player doesn't perform well enough. They do it all the time, I am sure when the team is announced there will be evidence that it was done again.
But are you saying that you would go work for an organization without knowing how much you are going to get paid and when?

rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

This is really crap. The WIBC cannot be serious about accountability, and transparency. From all indications, it seems that KG deliberatly did not push to get these contracts sorted out from the beginning. Players will be judged on attitude etc, what about them. How they gonna be judged?

number09 May 2, 2007, 9:51:00 AM

yes, the players mess up royally, but KG made no response to this contract issue, even when they where reminded by WIPA. My point is if the WIBC operates on a level, and honors agreements then maybe there could be a meaningful change in WI cricket.
WIBC overhaul their way of doing business then the way forward will be clearer.

These bunch of cricketers has failed in every way

But the WICB is still seeking their services ent? Why?

Think about that for a while and come back when you can rise above your emotion and be logical.

natty_forever May 2, 2007, 9:57:45 AM

This is how me see it. Until we see the players as the product which they are we not going any where. What would any good organisation do when its product is no longer good? Will they start saying the product should be paid according to its performance? Or would they not dump the line and get a new product or invest more to improve the existing one? Hence, 1. where is the capital injection required to improve the product? 2. What is marketing doing to improve the appeal of the product?

EBS I am surprised at you. Having been reading your posts for a while I got the impression that you were a progressive person. This is not about losing. This is about basic human rights. Would you be able to work in an environment where you can't trust your employer and prior to every job, there is confusion?

How the hell with all this going on we expect the players to perform much less win anything? When your employer (WICB) treating you like shit what kind of attitude & psyche you expect the players them to have? Instead everybody focussing on the team and the captain - What difference it makes who on the team!

2 weeks to go before the start of a test match & this is the state of the cricket! What kind a preparation & match readiness the players will have with this in the back of their minds?

West Indies cricket done - RIP

Man I thought that after Braithwaite and Griffiths left the WICb would at least stop lying blatantly.

What is it that prevents the WICB from following standard business practices and operating like fly by night scam artists?

And why do so many West Indians and cricket journalists support such low down and immoral behaviour from the body in charge of WI cricket?

I mean a united front of anger would soon see all these these crooks totally replaced. But their defenders in the press allow people like Val Banks to vote for themselves and stay there as part of this immoral cabal year after year.

bobby May 2, 2007, 10:03:22 AM

I have said it before and I will repeat. Let's hound the WICB out of town. Publish their address, email addresses and phone numbers and let's start a campaign of harrassment.

Bingo!!! Nuff power they had, which is why some members of the former world champion team were treated like common dogs at the (premature) end of their careers!

This particular bit of detail is NOT about players perse nor losses/wins of the WI team.

This is about an upcoming tour, and necessary arrangements to make that tour happen ... that MORE than requires WICB's input, partcipation, cooperation ... AND ..listen LOUDLY .. THEY NOT GIVING any of the 3 in a timely, business-like manner.

Is that UNDERSTOOD .... yet???

WEe have bashed the players, and will bash thme in future as needed. We dun know the players CAN & SHOULD DO BETTER
IT is now time to bash WICB for its wrenk SKUNTNESS in this matter --- THEY too MUST DO FAR BETTER

Their continued malaise is pitiful ... and as Dukes et al seh ... is rasses like unnuh HELP embolden that kind of attitude and behavior in these farts that run WICB.

ends May 2, 2007, 10:47:03 AM

What we have here is a failure to communicate......

Deliberate failure, I believe, on the part of the WICB.

In essence the WICB is saying "Fork off, WIPA."

WIPA WILL WIN arbitration. But they can't enforce shite.

The Board is going to employ whomever is willing to sign....and this time, I predict,

there will be no shortage of peeps linging up to sign.

The Board has never been in a stronger position of leverage.

WIPA's actions have always benefited a core group of "established players".

Do any of you really think the "fringe" or, to quote a former captain,
players in the "periphery" are going to sacrifice a shot at test
cricket when all the benefits accrue to that core bunch?

Should they?

Would you?

And really, is the margin between the core group and the players in the periphery
so noticeable that anyone outside West Indies would recognize it?

But I digress from my originial point.

WIPA is being finger-forked right now....the real ass-penetration will be when it
suddenly dawn on them that the only remedy they have is a sit-out. And that would also fail.
They can't even slap an injunction on the tour.

carl0002 May 2, 2007, 10:49:52 AM

Wait, was it not a Trini president, who within 2 hrs of occupying the WICB presidency stated that within another 2 hrs he want to wrap the contract situation with WIPA. 2 years later    that status is still the same and he resign and they rejected the resignation. Haha. Listen the only saving grace is that this ting would have gotten way more nasty if it was not a Trini president.

The Wasteoftime-ICB- oh lord what to do with this pack of jokers??? Anansen comes on board and he starts off on the wrong foot as well. I hold no brief for Dinas but, in the face of such rank incompetence from Gordon and his boys, who can defend him?
Surely, there must be something that can be done by the fans collectively at least.. how long can this be allowed to go on.... Sars and his boys should strike!!!!

Before I go any further, let me emphasise that I agree that the team has totally failed and both the WICB and the team need a massive shake-up/shake-out. However, consider these questions:

- Would you continue to freely offer your labour to a company that constantly disputes how much you should be paid, keeps going back on pay agreements on a regular basis and always presents their case in terms that do not agree with the written information at your disposal?

- If you were to continue to work under these conditions, would such behaviour dispose you to give your employer your best?

I rest my case.....

Why bother with imbeciles?

Some people are too shallow to understand basic principles.
