West Indies fast bowler Corey Collymore rejected the suggestion by English journalists that he may be rusty going into the first Test against England starting at Lord's on May 17th.
"I wouldn't say I'm rusty, I'm good to go," the right arm Barbadian quick said while flashing his trademark broad smile.

HEADLINE: Collymore: I'm good to go
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com
I could not resist this one Collymore.
Wesley
Collymore is NOT A FAST BOWLER for the simple reason that he does not bowl fast. Genuine fast bowlers can bowl successfully on any wicket, as proven several times over, with perhaps Holding's exploits on the dead Oval wicket in 1976 being the most memorable.
Collymore may feel that his seam bowling is ideally suited to the English conditions, but he will be literally "bringing coal to Newcastle", as obviously the England players would have encountered several "Collymore-type" seam bowlers in their own backyard. The fate of the Windies team lies squarely on the shoulders of the quicker bowlers, Edwards, Rampaul and Taylor - not Collymore. If we cannot bowl out England, nothing else matters, unless a draw is the goal for each test.
why does this guy think he is a shoo in to play....i hope he meant good to go and fetch the drinks for the boys.sorry mr. collymore but that is the way i see it.
In reply to CRICLOGICS
Are you referring to corey Collymore. It fits quite aptly in this current side.
In reply to CRICLOGICSHe will play on Thursday.
Broad fraudulent smile, fu#king cu#t!
somehow i cannot find anything positive about this fella as a cricketer..i normally support all the boys but i just cant see any cricketing ability in this chap.sars and this chap is good friends and i am inclined to think sars want him in the team....""""sars try and come to your senses""""""
Hope he perform if he plays in the first test
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com I'm good to go----- back to my home, because I'm a waste of time.

In reply to bajanboy
baje boy i understand how you feel..seeing this is you country man and all..i would be happy if this collymore chap gets us some wickets but the truth is that he is incapable...he just dont have it..let us hope that if he plays he does something decent...but the reality is that he is over his head as a cricketer.
In reply to Fortis Fortis, I got to agree with you 100%. I have always admired Coillymore's fighting spirit, but the truth if no point in having fight if you ain't got weapons and you coming up against an armoured vehicle. Colllymore has only ever looked threatening on hard, bouncy wickets (Sabina / Australia). He will be cannon fodder for English batsmen who eat and drink seam bowling. Powell will give you one good spell (the first one of the first innnings of the first test). Thereafter he will progressively tail off becomiing more innocuous and more expensive with each spell. We must go with Taylor-Rampaul-Edwards. If they go for runs so be it, but at least the potential is there to unsettle England. I would risk playing Sammy as 4th and Bravo as back up bowler (I don't expect Bravo to have the success he had last tour -they know him now and sadly his bowling is going backwards). Sarwan is attack-minded enough to go this route, but I hear now that the onsite management team has to consult with the selectors back home - if they are consistent with their WC contribution, Messrs. Greenidge and Roberts are sure to insist on the innocuous. These two gentlemen should have been the first to lose their jobs 1) for being part of group that selected such an impotent bowling attach for WC and 2) for publicly criticising selection of team members or teams(Greenidge on Smith, Roberts on the the 11 vs Oz). Don't they teach these WICB officials about corporate ethics and collective responsibility? Finally have any of these guys compared Pedro Collins test wicket-taking stats to any of the other bowlers selected on this tour? How do the selectors rationalise leaving him out of this ordinary group?
Long post I know - but I have been away for a while.
In reply to Logic Mr. Logic and Mr. Fortis lets give the guys our support! Lets wait until they disgrace us again, I am immune to it, so maybe we all should be immune to it. Expect nothing and you will not be hurt with wishful expectations.
Again, if they disgrace us they are all one of us! We still can't throw the baby out with the bath water.
My point is, if they play as a team in England gave their best effort and did not win on the field, they would have won in my heart.
Stop beating the outside edge and take wickets.
Collymore's ability to peg away and frustrate batsmen by being hard to score off is an asset for the Windies, if he gets 2/3 wkts per innings with a good rpo then it's job done.
If the likes of Pietersen & co. get frustrated by him then they will target the other bowler, Taylor could benefit most.
In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com
yea right, good to go home
best since Walsh.........do wat yuh do screws.......5fer dis toss
In reply to bata
Ditto!!.....I will always support him....but like you;I dont see him as a "strike" bowler.
I find it interesting that all the posters against collymore
seem to agree that taylor, rampaul and fidel are our best.
and DP,Colly our worst. What is also interesting is that the
psuedo names dont sound westindian one bit, also the posts themselves
do not reflect westindian speech.
Why are the english afraid of colly and DP?
Right now you have more important things to worry about,
There is serious conflicts in the English Camp! If you dont take
care of it soon, your team will Implode in this series.
In reply to Fortis
The fate of the Windies team lies squarely on the shoulders of the quicker bowlers, Edwards, Rampaul and Taylor
Sigh.
*shakes head sadly*

In reply to Cleg
Collymore might not be a tearaway strike bowler, but when Edwards goes for 100 off 15 overs, you need somebody to repair the damage! Collymore has a test bowling average of 30, which is much better than edwards' 44....
Collymore might be the bowler to frustrate KP into giving away his wicket.
In reply to mikesiva
While it is not such a bad thing to have hope, somewhere along the way reality has to emerge to share the platform. Additionally, some of us seem prepared to discount the ability of the English batsmen to play seam bowling. Apart from the false sense of bravery shown by Freddy Flintoff, none of the Englishmen are comfortable against sustained fast bowling, as was evident in the recently concluded Ashes down under. I did not bother to emphasize their susceptibility to top class spin, as the Windies did not carry any real spin bowler.
Instead of Collymore, a better choice would have been to carry one of the frontline spin bowlers, and more so Dave Mohammed, because he can also bat. Collymore could then be selected for the ODI's where curtailment of runs is just as critical as taking wickets.
In reply to jai
i am west indian and i do not know if we watch the same collymore or not...the man should not be allowed anywhere near a cricket field never mind giving him a ball and calling him a bowler..we all have our own take on this chap and this is mine...""""totally useless and a waste as a cricketer"..he might be a nice fella otherwise..sorry colly but that is the way i see it...prove me wrong and you will get a most deservedly apology.
In reply to CRICLOGICS
Who also has the best 'test bowling average' of the Windies players on tour, and 2nd on the list of players available for the Windies.
In reply to Fortis
I totally agree that Dave Mohammed should be there. I would have him there instead of Edwards, though....
in test cricket bowlers have to tek 20 wickets (unless dem run out of course) for the side to win. so you need wicket taking bowlers.
ODI is different, a bowler can either contain the batsmen or take wickets or both.
where does Collymore fit in this formula?
In reply to jai
C'dear Jai, because a man tries to do some critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of individuals in particular environments (something I don't think our selectors are adequately doing - you are going to question his patriotism. Colly is my countryman, an unlike CricLogics, I have great admiration for the guy - but all the evidence is that he does not do well on softer wickets, plus you have the added element that he is the type of bowler that the English see day in and day out. If we were playing Oz in Oz or SA in SA Collymore would be one of the first name on my team sheet. As for Powell, history has repeated itself over and over with him - he can't sustain the effort through a test match. I am no Mohammed fan, but as Fortis notes, against England, most any wrist spinner could have an impact. I will support any team that is put out there once it's picked (and hope that I will be proven wrong) but allow me to have my say up to that point.
In reply to googley
That is a simplistic view.
In many cases, the wicket taker needs support at the other end. Look at Walsh and Ambrose... how many of Walsh's wickets came because of the pressure Ambrose created at the other end?
You can create pressure by stifling or by bowling at the throat.

In reply to Logic
when colly started i was a great fan and very entusiastic over his bowling...then he broke down and since has not done too much.colly does not recognise his handicap and try to work within it..he justs goes around as if the world is at his keck and beck...so i just jumped of his wagon....which has headed no where but downwards...the man lacks guts and professionalism to take his job seriously.i will stand 150 % behind any bowler who recognises that is war he going to..and irrespective of how much licks he may get i will support him...test cricket is war not skin teeth and animation.
Incidentally... can someone point out these West Indian bowlers who are more of a wicket taker than Collyweed?
I can't see them.
Arawak
Oh wait.. I found him.
It's Pedro.

In reply to Logic
Don't be offended, but you have not convinced me
of your westindian heritage, nor have any of you
produced any strong evidence to support your bias
against colly and DP. The more you write, the more
convinced I become about your english blood and I see
your input on this forum as nothing more than english
propaganda build up before the first test. I beleive
that you harbour deep fears of DP and colly, that is why
you are so bent on putting them down. You will be well advised
to remember the song of the banana man!
In reply to Arawak Wackie, pressure has to be at both ends for that to happen. Case is point, Walsh and Ambie.
who is that combo in the current team??
In reply to googley
Read past the first line.
And, tell me who the 'wicket takers' who should be ahead of Collymore are.
Arawak
In reply to googley Sammy and Colly should bowl in tandem.
In reply to Arawak Powell and Taylor. DP was very impressive in the WC.
In reply to googley In my view Colly is not the penetrative bowler on the team. he is ofcourse the stock bowler. He is most effective if use in combination with the likes of say, Ambi or Walsh. Now we don't have any of these.
We know little of Sammy capablities. However I think very highly of him. He is simmilar to Colly in that he has good control and can be a perfect foil on the featherbeds that are being predicted in England this summer.
In reply to googley
Both of those two take fewer wickets per match than Collyweed. Go look it up.
Arawak
In reply to Arawak
You also have to look at the S/R and both Edwards' and Taylor's are better than that of Collymore. Only Powell has a worse S/R than Collymore. Rampaul is yet to make his test debut.
In reply to Arawak overall stats yes, i agree with you. However look at Powell 2007 performance. 114 overs, 20 wickets, avg 27.4, sr 34.2. clearly 2007 to date has been his best year.
this guy is improving and must be given a chance to further improve.
In reply to googley
However look at Powell 2007 performance.
Errm... he played *1* Test in 2007. He also had a fair but hardly great FC season in 2007.
I hope he can build on his ODI form, but there are no tangibles to support the view that he is a better Test match wicket taker than Collyweed, who had a respectable 28ish average last year in Tests including a 5fer.
Arawak
In reply to Arawak
Powell is known for getting tired after his first spell. Hope he is fitter now.
In reply to ganga_fan
Powell was tired after 8 overs in the WC opener.
Arawak
In reply to Arawak
Yep, and that wasn't the only time. His pace go down as well in second and third spells.
In reply to Arawak
8 overs is not a short opening spell. Not to mention, in ODI if he knows he's only going to be bowling 10 then he may hold back less than he would in a test.
In reply to faada
Steups, how many times we seen the two old men Cuddy and Ambrose bowl for 15+ overs opening the bowling?
I have renewed hope for Powell, but he needs to be fit.
Arawak
In reply to CRICLOGICS
Maybe coz him averaging 3 wkts ah test,26 tests and 82 wkts.that make 1 and 1/2 wkts an innings.
He playing 8 years now, dunno how that compare wid others.
Well! I am not going to put down my players anymore.. Screw those English, Drop a Ball right in one of dem seed bag! and break a hand if you can too.
Murda dem wid de ball! No more put down of our players! Anyone putting dem down, we know they are English from now on.
White folks know we love when our men are doing well and peed off when they are not! So they get on these block and act like they are West Indians! I say pop a ball in flint off eye blind the arrogant pig! Call me wicked! I am in.

In reply to CRICLOGICS
Sounds like you are trying to convince jai that you are not one of the Hinglish. I dont much care where jai thinks I am from - at least not as long as he has no more worthwhile a contribution to make than I have seen so far. I am more concerned that your rants are mistaken to be one of my posts (I may have to change my handle). I am not anti Colly or anti Powell just keen to see a more aggressive approach against the English - murda dem with de ball! as LoveM says. I am also sceptical that you "have been privy to a lot of inside stuff wid de boys". Otherwise you would not be so disparaging about Collymore's courage knowing what you should then know about what it would have taken for him to come back from his back injury.
In reply to Logic
you dont have to change your handle..things will work itself out..if you read what i said before you will notice that i indicated that i was a great supporter of collymore but because he has not been up to par (what i consider acceptable) i jumped off his wagon.i would like to see someone else in his spot.collymore needs to prove me wrong and that i am one who is just spewing at the mouth with pure garbage emitting.as i said this is the way i see it.
In reply to CRICLOGICS Smiling, To be honest bro we don't care which one of the pit toilet you been licking your information from! We are saying you a fake and fakes always try to undermine others! I hope colly maul your behind with a bouncer across your nose bridge! If you are on some british colonial vesel to steal and to cheat! We say the golds are God's stay away from our players and leave them alone.
No more put down from us West Indians. If we see put down we automatically presumed you to be an enemy hence you will be shot down with the content of our words you moron.

Question for you! Ever been to Golden Grove Market Place?
In reply to Lovemd62
bro this is just a chit chat format wherein we can provide an opinion on a subject.....whether i am a true west indian or south american..your ranting and raving will not bother me....ok bro.
In reply to Arawak
man i expected much more from him as a strike bowler...in this game we need to bowl people out...not tie up an end which colly does.
i just want to see someone else.

Listen up you! I don't give a rats tail how long I have been here. This is not home so go suck a plumbing pipe! IRIE.
I get sick of you Morons Putting down the boys! and acting like you are West Indian. You don't shoot your men and freed your victims. So for those that abhor Colly or speak evil of our Men. I consider you an Enemy Con-batant! Hence I will be keeping my eye on you! Consider this a theory of commanding respect for our Fellow Cricketers. White boys.. Talking trash.
Darn con-artist punks.

There are no facts on your side. Collyweed takes more wickets than anyone except Lawson and -- marginally -- Pedro, but he's more economical while he does it and he can bowl longer spells.
Arawak
In reply to Lovemd62
are you interested in seeing good competitive cricket or are you just happy watching so so cricket? i am a cricket fan and like competitive games i will not accept subpar performance by any player who could and should dig deeper.....i just was not picking on mr.coolymore for the sake of picking on him....i want him to do well if he is in the team...because when he does well we do well...but i just do not see it...call me traitor, spy or whatever ..a winning and positive attitude must exist and should never be compromised by those who do not want to give it all.maybe it is acceptable to you to be laughed at by the cricketing world but i resent it and would like to see it changed.....do you understand now....winning is good for all of us...
In reply to CRICLOGICS
According to CricInfo, Colly will be a real threat for the first test conditions.
I asked what kind of fish they have at the fish farm, not where it is. So long as the fish dont bite, I would eat it!
I would have no problems going into annsgrove!
In reply to CRICLOGICS Mister Illogics-you have said quite a bit.( said quite a bit, I made no comment on substance- just to be clear) the cricket starts tomorrow. I personally will watch this space and see who has to blink first and come back here and make amends for the posts being made.I sincerely hope that you have plenty Yorkshire Pies to stuff your jaw bone with over the next few days.
Play Ball
In reply to powen001
i will have no problem with that....i just want my team...the west indies to do well and everyone pull their weight.did i say too much...sorry if if i did....and to show that i do not hold a grudge i will say...let us go colly boy..dig it in for the team.
In reply to CRICLOGICS
England does not have a team!
So if you are speaking of conpetition there is really none, this is just rehearsing how West Indies will rebuild and command respect from you white boys once again! Pitty they never had the vision before.
Warn of what fool. Tbis Jamaican could careless what you say! As I have said before crawled back under your white boy stone! or go sleep with your vermins..
But leave our cricketers alone! They have taken enough of your filthy dirty comments. They need their space to whoop your ugly behind like we use to do in the 70's and 80's.
So, Punk you don't scare me!
