Drepaul Named Guyana Under-19 Skipper
Five players who represented Guyana in last year?s regional
Under-19 tournament at home, have been included in an 18-man squad
selected ahead of this year?s West Indies championships to be
staged in Jamaica from July 12.
The players are opener Rawlston Tappin, middle-order batsmen Devon
Ramnauth and Assad Fudadin, leg-spinner Lookeshwar Mohabir and fast
medium bowler Jeremiah Harris.
The selectors, who met yesterday at the Guyana Cricket Board
(GCB) office, have also named left-arm spinner and useful
lower-order batsman Sauid Drepaul as captain with Fudadin as his
deputy.
Also included is middle-order batsman Roopnarine Ramgobin, who
played in the 1999 tournament in Barbados and the 2001 in Guyana
but missed last year?s.
Ramgobin created quite an impression in the 1999 tournament and
gained selection on the West Indies Youth World Cup team to Sri
Lanka. He however lost form and subsequent favour with the
selectors.
Wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks, who was on standby last year, gets his
chance this time around.
