'Bust-a fix': Controversial Rule Changed

After last year's mini-fiasco when Barbados were declared champions by virtue of gaining more wins than Guyana after both teams finished with 57 points, the WICB has made an "important adjustment" to the Busta Cup 2002 regulations.

The board said the result of the ?head-to-head meeting? between teams will now be the first priority in deciding positions should there be an equality of points.

According to the WICB?s latest Across the Board column, ?the team with the most outright wins? will then be priority number two to settle cases where teams finish with the same number of points.

The Board also said that should an equality still remain after applying the first two priorities, ?then the positions will be determined by average? calculated in three stages.

The stages have been listed in the playing conditions and the WICB has urged all players and authorities involved in the tournament to acquaint themselves with the competition rules.

Once again, the four highest ranked teams at the conclusion of league play in the Busta Cup, will contest two semifinals for the Busta International Shield. The Busta Cup champions will play at home against the team placed fourth in one semifinal and the team placed second in league play will also have home advantage in opposing the team finishing third.

The winners of the two semifinals or teams gaining first innings honours in a drawn match will contest the Busta International Shield final.

The Board also revealed that ?the team which hosts the final of the Busta International Shield will be the semifinal winner which had the higher ranking at the end of league play?.
