Ambi, Richie Jumping into Music Biz

Former Windies cricket stars, Richie Richardson and Curtly Ambrose, have turned their sights to a career in the music business.

Richardson, a guitarist, and bass player Ambrose will be teaming up with the new Dread and the Baldhead group featuring lead vocalist Davidson Benjamin, a former Antiguan calypso monarch.

Benjamin, the "original" Dread in the former group when some members parted company last April, is also reviving his career after taking break. The six-member group also comprises a drummer, keyboardist and a female vocalist.

Having performed occasionally while on tour with the West Indies team, Richardson, a former captain, and Ambrose, a fearsome pacer, say they are looking forward to their debut on the musical stage.

They will be performing with Dread and the Baldhead band for the first time on New Year's night at the Lashings Beach Bar.

"We are just going to put on a great show," Richardson told Observer Radio.

"We want the people of Antigua to come down and see what we have to offer. We have been putting in a lot of hard work because we want to give a good account of ourselves. We are basically doing it for some fun but we are having a serious approach," Richardson said.

Ambrose has taken music lessons from legendary Jamaican guitarist Stephen "Cat" Coore of the Third World Band, as part of his preparation for the stage.
