Selection Committee Pondering Dillon Suspension

Chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board's (WICB) disciplinary committee, Lennox John, says his panel will be meeting shortly to determine whether Test fast bowler, Mervyn Dillon, will be subject to further punishment after he was sent home from the regional team's recent tour of Sri Lanka.

Describing the decision to send home Dillon as a "tough" one for the team's management, John said there will be a telephone link-up of members on the WICB's disciplinary committee in the coming days to look at the case.

"I've had word from the president (Reverend Wes Hall) that it should be viewed by the (disciplinary) committee and we are in the process of setting up such a meeting," John told CMC.

"I think it was a tough decision to take and having taken it, I think we can only live with it," added John on the CMCRadio sports programme yesterday.

"When you look at the persons who make up the management committee that made this decision, one would only think that they had to view it very seriously and they must have known the history of West Indies cricket whereby the people who were dismissed from tours never even got back on West Indies teams at a later date," John remarked.

"Certainly, it was a very tough decision for them to make, to decide to send back (Dillon) who was at that point, was perhaps their best bowler. So one has to really view all those circumstances but coupled with that, was the fact that they have now said that they didn't anticipate extra action.

"They have taken very severe action so that it is now left for one to review and see whether or not the action was appropriate and what can happen after that," John noted.
