Bajan Teens Off to Bradman Academy

Two budding young cricketers left yesterday for coaching in Australia, with hopes of doing well and scores of encouraging words from former West Indies bowling great, Reverend Wes Hall.

?Go there and learn all you can,? the West Indies Cricket Board president told batsmen Martin Nurse,16, of Deighton Griffith School, and Renaldo Parris,15, of Coleridge and Parry.

?This is a golden opportunity. When you go there, wear your Barbados blazer with pride. Let them know you are from the island where Sir Garry [Sobers] came from.?

The youngsters will be accompanied by former West Indies allrounder David Holford while Down Under for two weeks.

Both said they were overjoyed to be attending the Bradman Academy in Sydney and other coaching camps in Melbourne, adding that they hoped it would be the first of many playing trips to Australia.

While in Sydney, they will play a match for the prestigious Bradman XI against a team from England.
