Why was US Tour to Antigua Abandoned?

The United States of America Cricket Association (USACA), notorious for extravagant planning and poor execution, fell on its face again this week with the announcement that a planned tour to Antigua later this month has been put "on hold at the moment."

In a statement, the association blamed the decision on the political crisis in Argentina.

"The decision to put the tour on hold) is due to the uncertainity of the Americas 2002 Championship tournament scheduled for March 2002 in Argentina," according to the USACA.

The Antigua tour was planned to prepare the USA national team for the Americas 2002 Championship in Argentina.

It said the Cricket Council of the Americas (CCAM) will issue a statement later this week as to the fate of the tournament. Options being considered are an alternate venue or postponement of the tournament to a future date.

It must be noted, however, that in spite of the unrest, Argentina continues to prepare for the tournament as scheduled, USACA added.
