'Chetty' Wins Guyana Cricket Board Presidency

Incumbent Chetram Singh yesterday defeated challenger Basil Butcher to retain his position as president of the Guyana Cricket Board for the 2002/2003 term of office.

Singh defeated the former West Indies middle-order batsman by 18 votes to nine for his 11th consecutive term of office.

Singh's votes came from solid support from the Essequibo and Berbice sub-associations while Butcher's votes came from Demerara.

Singh yesterday told this newspaper that following the support of the electorate, his executive plans to continue with their programme of activities.
"We have to continue with our plans for the future," he said.

There are two new vice presidents Alvin Johnson who replaces Milton Dookie and Malcolm Peters who replaces Claude Raphael.

Dookie, the Essequibo Cricket Board president did not seek re-election.

Secretary Bish Panday was returned to his position as was Ronald Williams in the assistant secretary position.

There is a new treasurer in Linden Morrison while the assistant treasurer is Sheik Asif Ahmad.

Former NBIC managing director and past chairman of the National Sports Commission, Conrad Plummer is the new marketing manager replacing Afzal Khan.

Carl Moore retained his position as chairman of the competitions committee while GT&T's deputy general manager Terry Holder will again serve as the PRO.
