Injury Bug hits Dillon, Gayle and Samuels
Trinidad and Tobago pacer Mervyn Dillon, heads a list of four
West Indies players, who will be closely looked at over the next
couple days by the team management.
This is because the quartet, the others being Chris Gayle, Marlon
Samuels and Pedro Colins, are all carrying minor injuries.
And according to team physiotherapist/trainer, Ronald Rogers,
the injuries could escalate into major ones if they are not
monitored on the forthcoming tour of Sharjah.
According to Rogers, Dillon and Collins have tendonitis problems,
Gayle has an elbow injury and Samuels twisted his ankle during a
team training earlier this week.
Despite this, and the fact that the team has been plagued by injury
problems for the last couple tours, they were still selected for
the series against Pakistan. However, Rogers seems confident that
they will be able to sort the problems out.
?What we are doing now is working to get them (injuries) to settle
down as much as possible,? Rogers said. ?So when the tour begins,
and you know that this tour is a very strenuous one, with very
little time to rest, it would not affect them too much.?
No fewer than five players were forced to return home from overseas
tours last year through injury problems.
Among them, leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine, who has had a series of
medical problems that forced him out of tours to South Africa,
Zimbabwe/Kenya and Sri Lanka, Dillon, and Guyanese pacer Reon King.
